So
I have aspergers syndrome. I think everyone knows this? o3o
But I've grown tired of people I've seen elsewhere on forums, flaming like a retard, then anytime something goes wrong "Oh I've got aspergers I don't know any better!"
Bullshit. XD
Okay... aspergers are blunt, make mistakes, but its not like I can't learn OH MAYBE I SHOULDN'T TELL THAT PERSON THEIR ART WAS SHIT... MAYBE... I SHOULD SAY THIS IN A NICE WAY?

I make lots of mistakes where I look bad.. but I apologize for them, I take responsibility, because in the end... even if I didn't know better, its still my fault on how I behave. If I don't know a stove is hot, and I shove someones face on it and they get burnt... well I didn't know any better just doesn't seem to cut it now does it? xD

AS isn't an excuse, its an understanding... When I was diagnosed I was so relieved to have a focus point on what I could do to communicate with people, instead of eye contact I stare at peoples lips... it lets them know they have my attention, even though they have it when I'm staring off into space, I can accept it makes them feel better. XD Its cool... if I tell people, its only so they can spot me doing something and let me know nicely so I can work on it, not so I can insult them and go OH WELL YOU KNOW.

This also works in a dual nature sort of way...
Just because I say something blunt doesn't always mean I'm being an asshole... if you ask if that dress makes you look fat, and I say yes... I'm telling you because YOU asked ME. I'm not being a dick, you asked, you get an honest answer. XD

Hear hear! I have AS, and being aware that I was "different" just made me want to work harder at learning how to get along with other people.

It's weird, I never even would have thought of being like "Oh, don't blame me, I have Aspergers" when something goes wrong - I just feel guilty, and try to change myself. I do know a kid from my high school who let his (ignorant) teachers make excuses for him all the time, and it bothered me! We ARE capable of learning!

I'm so mild, that I think most people wouldn't even realize if I didn't tell them. I have told a couple of my closest friends (some of whom have it themselves), and they don't treat me any differently after finding out, so why should I pretend I'm special?

Haha, that's funny!

And I can relate because I have the condition to. I used to have a "friend" who proved herself not to be a true friend who called me a burger-eating retard.

thank you so much for taking responsibility for yourself. Seriously. I know someone with aspringer's and she does not. she gets so bad they had to drag her kicking, screaming, and crying from a classroom because she seriously disrespected a teacher and got a detention. she knew she did something wrong, she just pulled the "i'm diffrent" card and refused to take the punishment. you're awesome for knowing what you do, and if you do something wrong, having the care to make it right.

Thank you for your comment!

It's difficult, especially when you feel you didn't do anything wrong... so someone saying you were being disrespectful can feel unfair, and like everyone's ganging up against you.

but I think its something everyone has to learn in their life; that some things you say that aren't supposed to be disrespectful can be whether you meant it or not. Sure, AS can run into this more than the "norm" but that's not the point!

The point is the person felt disrespected, and she should account for their feelings, and say "I didn't mean to be disrespectful, but if you feel that way then alright." And to let it get to the point where you're kicking and screaming and crying is a bit overboard... :<

I hope someone can talk to her, and explain why it was disrespectful... I wish more people had done(and would do xD) that for me! But in the end, it doesn't sound like she'd be very open to listening to that...

exactly. Everyone learns that no matter how many times they're told. I wish so much that she would accept help. She would be so much happier in her life. But you're right, she just doesn't want to listen to the fact that she may be wrong and has no authority to answer to.

I have aspergers, and I am very blunt with people. But most of the insufferable idiots and "jaw-flapping wind bags" that I have to deal with five days each week don't get that. And they are just like sheep: stupid, in the way, and have no common sense. Well, at least most of them are like that; I have a few friends that are not like sheep. What was I talking about? Oh right, my aspergers. Anyways, when someone asks me something I answer them truthfully. And when I say that they talk too much, or that they can't shut up, or they say something stupid and I correct them, they act all offended as if I said, "You're stupid, fat, lazy, and have no life." And I only said, "It's I have seen, not 'I seen'." And this one chick asked me (While I was drinking one.) if I still liked V8, (This chick was one of the sheep I mentioned earlier and did NOT shut up!) so I asked her if she still talked non-stop. Her come-back was: "You're mean!" to which I replied: "I am not mean, I am blunt." and she said nothing else to me all day, which was as I had hoped. So not only are most of my class-mates idiots but, they are also predictable.

I totally relate!

As an aspie I'll say something or honestly give a comment about something, but then a while later I'll be like "Oh crap! I shouldn't have said that should I? I bet I sounded like a complete asshole to that person!"

Sometimes I even warn people ahead of time because I know at some point when interacting someone I know I'm bound to eventually say something out of line or stupid when I don't mean to.

But I hate when ever people have AS they think it automatically means they're some kind of gifted genius or something.

Ummm...hey, could I just ask you - if you wouldn't mind awnsering - what are...I supppose, the basic 'symptoms' for Aspergers Syndrome...?

I like your stamp. It's...nice n' straightforward...to the point...*Will say more on that later*

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

arafel In reply to RainbowGlasses [2010-08-22 07:01:14 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind answering I think its good to do your own research into a topic to see if you have it or not before seeking professional diagnosis. Something I like to recommend to a lot of people is the Oasis guide to aspergers. I can't find the website I used to use, but this may be it [link]

Its a starting point, if anything. They also have a book, white cover, pink lettering... You can always check libraries!

But basically, the symptoms, are troubles developing socially. This can be easily misinterpreted of course, and thus misdiagnosis and self-diagnosis happen a lot. But in general, you get a cluster of people answering things literally, not noticing facial cues and body language. People with AS may also notice other physical complications, such as sensitivities to light, sound, etc etc.

I hope this answers your question.

The symptoms are being diagnosed by a knowledgeable professional.

Seriously, I know where you're going with this. You can't read a list of symptoms or take an online test and then run around saying you have it. That's what made the people who really have it look bad in the first place.

Ah, Thank You for awnsering my Question, although you didn't exactly...awnser what I asked - in a sense -, but whatever...

[I'm Sorry if I've managed to mis-understand what you've said in your above comment - that's my own fault, so...]
No. You /think/ you know where I'm going with this. You /thought/ you knew where I was going with it - I /know/ what you've just said there. I know that people shouldn't do that kind of thing;/I/ don't do that kind of thing, so...
I wasn't aware that people with Aspergers Syndrome had...so much going against them because of people who did that kind of thing before I found these type of Stamps and whatnot and I read the comments that people who actually do have Aspergers Syndrome were saying, so...
If you mis-interperated what I meant by..."I like your stamp. It's...nice n' straightforward...to the point...*Will say more on that later*"...well, then, that's down to you, I guess...'-_-

I can answer. People with aspergers suffer from autism, but not retardation. This combination causes them to have boosted intelligence, rendering them incapable of easily communicating with "normal" people. We just have a different mindset.

In reality, Asperger's is very rare, and most people who claim it online don't even fucking know the real symptoms!

"Aspie card" is just a nice way to pull the naive and ignorant on your side, making whoever is smart enough to really know what's going on look like an evil asshole.

So, I kind of diagnosed myself XD
I researched it and I match most of all the "symptoms".
But then again it may not be completely aspergers, it may be something close to it.
But I'm almost positive it's something around there.
But, I'd rather know if I have some sort of disability, than to forever wonder if I do or not, you know?

Agreeing with HTF there. You can even look into your school counciling center for direction. Legally, you have the right to get diagnosed, and there's many programs that can do it for free when you're under 18.

although i read in books that Aspie's like us have normal to low intelligence..............i don't think that's true cause I get high scores on free IQ tests like 140's XD;;;; plus wikipedia's wrong, we has great imagination 83

I wouldn't want to be popular anyways, they're all the same prissy idiots with half a brain.........it annoys me profusely when they laugh all the time even when they're not happy..........why the fuck would you laugh when you're not happy?? or even smile for that matter..........and they keep twisting their hair.........very annoying.........not to mention the fact i was tricked into reading a note that had several random words that made the phrase "i am so fucking retarded" .........i didn't even tell them i had aspies...........in that class i only mentioned i have depression...................my mom says not to put myself up as an example and i try not to but my meds make me more open......

also on a brighter note three of my friends told me i'm gonna be a serial killer when i grow up XD

arafel In reply to NewMoonNightmare [2010-08-22 06:51:51 +0000 UTC]

Actually AS and people with autism usually score pretty high on IQ tests. Its usually not a matter of intelligence, but simply the way things are worded. I recommend the Oasis books if you're looking for information, their webpage as well. They know a lot more than the general public.

Popularity is a social disease, as one of my T-shirts put it. Keep being yourself, and don't let the others get to you. One day, they'll all wish they WERE you. If I've learned anything its that its a talent to know how to express yourself openly, and hundreds of people only wish they could. Of course, do it with discretion!

Wow, the chance of people thinking that I have "asshole" syndrome is one of the reasons why I wish I never had it, along with me thinking that I often feel like I need to be "segregated" into groups of people that only have autism-related disorders and even other disabilities like Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy. It's very difficult for me to get along with those people because I'm often squeamish toward deformed physical appearances, although I don't intend to spread hate upon them.

I had to work on pitch and tonal inflection but on the bright side I don't seem to have that ridiculously out of proportion fear of public speaking that certain overly-self aware neurotypicals get sometimes.
It's just... talking in front of people.

It's not one-on-one intimate personal conversation where when you screw up the person won't want to be friends anymore or assume you're insane or insensitive. Hmm, also says something a bit about the quality of people I'm used to hanging around with. Sure there's some body language to public speaking but in front of a large audience you don't have to minutely examine everybody's face the whole time. You can... scan around a bit.
