Description
Waiting for the real macro lens (tomorrow!), I decided to practice with the 17-85 IS USM kit lens in the meantime. A bit difficult to take nice macro shots with it, and I still need some time to get used to the new camera and way of shooting. 2 out of 80 shots were usable in the end.Couldn't sleep well, so I went out really early this morning, around sunrise, and just walked around in a meadow for an hour and a half. Should have known that grass is very wet at that time of day, didn't take long until my pants were soaked up to my knees.
The insect is a crane fly (Tipula), can't identify which species (according to Wikipedia, there are at least 14,000...)
The focus is a bit off, but it looks acceptable to me after resizing. Other processing: Very slight level adjustment and a fair amount of cropping.

Nice to see you back after two years of absence. The picture is really nice as well, I like the way the fly looks like it's climbing or perhaps doing some exercise. The focus looks good enough in this size and the colors are beautiful.

Like it ... I caught a few of these (check them out in my gallery if you like!). They're really odd close up - they look like robots, all connecting 'bits'. Quite Jurassic!!
