Description
This large drake is the biggest flying animal on Chascher, reaching up to 7.5m long, with a wingspan of up to 8m. It's wingspan seems short compared to the animals size because, like all* quadaves, it has four wings. It also has lots of air sacs in it's body, and its large beak is mostly hollow. The King Drake is an apex predator and scavenger. A lot of the time, it can just bully a smaller predator off its kill, but if for some reason it wants fresh meat, it swoops down its prey, usually goat-to-horse sized animals, and slams into it with its open jaws, biting down, and carrying it off. If the prey is still somehow alive, it'll drop it onto the ground, from around 150m, then fly down and retrieve the battered mess. They're also monogamous, so sometimes if a prey item is too big, the male and the female will each grab and end and yank it in two, then fly back to the the nest, with each one holding half and animal.
King Drakes are sexually dimorphic, but not to the point where I need to draw two pictures. The females are a bit bigger than the males, usually about a meter longer. The female's beak crests are also smaller, and the same color as the beak.
Because of their size and flight abilities, they can be found around the world, although there are regional differences, such as continental King Drakes are larger than the ones on the large southern island. They also nest in a variety of places, including mountain sides, cliff faces and the large trees that dot the plains. Continental King Drakes tend to live more in the large plains trees, while the Southern Island subspecies lives more in the mountains. There are also small populations that live smaller islands. These are the smallest in body size, and nest on the cliffs above the sea.

Very fearsome looking, and I like the colours too. I was going to mention that the keels/crests on the creatures beak may hinder its maneuverability if it were to turn its head during flight ( that could have some fairly devastating effects ) but I'm not so sure anymore, they seem a little too small to have a large effect on the animals flying.

I based the beak keels on the WWD Ornithocheirus. I'm not sure how much they'd affect flying, but I don't think it would hinder them too much. Thanks for the fave!

I noticed the resemblance, but I have read some articles concerning beak keels, head crests etc. on pterosaurs, and keels like the ones on this drakes beak I doubt would effect it's flying ability. Oh,and btw, I'm planning on doing some fanart whenever I get the time, so watch out for that. I promise it'll be done in this year at least XD, joking.

Well, I can't promise anything, but hopefully it will be drawn and up before the end of the Easter holidays.

Thank you! They aren't very common though, because nesting spots are fairly rare. But they could easily eat a human.

Well, they regularly eat goat and horse sized animals, so a human wouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure if the biochemistry would be compatible though, so you might just be cast out of the nest for tasting bad.

Yeah . Although I doubt you'd survive the fall. And the way they hunt, they might shatter you spine before finding out they can't eat you.
