The return of my old character Lonna Noon, the purple haired Librarian of Midsummer Institute for Magical Education! This time in her teenaged years, with her sister Beriae, who grows up to teach at St. Requiem's Academy for fledgling superheroes. Beriae's character actually belongs to Lava-Bean

Lonna Noon was very good at expressing her thoughts without actually using human words.
Beriae Noon was very good at interpreting those inhuman sounds. It was a perk of being sisters for so long. For example, Beriae knew that the grizzly bear groan accompanied by twitching fingers meant Doc Price gave us way too much homework, I'm gonna diiieee.

"I hate the Open Discussion Topic essays," the shorter girl grumbled -- ah! Human speech at last! -- and ran her fingers through her hair until the purple strands stuck out wild. "I don't even know what topic to write about!"

Beriae carefully side-stepped a concerningly loose lamp post and shrugged. "I thought you were going to do something about the subversion of character archetypes in mainstream fiction?"

Lonna shook her head. "Nah, that's my thesis paper for English. Everyone in Doc Price's class is doing something about ethics in superhero-ing."

"Well, I mean, the class is "Powers and Responsibilities", yeah," Beriae ducked down an alley that led away from the more urban part of town. "But you don't have to do a topic like that if you don't want to. I'm doing my essay on the implications of Industrial Revolution holdovers in the classroom setting."

She paused at the other end of the alley and held out an arm to stop her sister. "Hang on a sec. Incoming."

They didn't really want to be seen approaching the old Gothic structure on the outskirts of the city. It wasn't as if they were doing anything wrong, but considering that most people in Cypher's Point took the rivalry between St. Requiem's Academy and Midsummer Institute very seriously, a couple of "Reccies" sneaking into Midsummer could cause a stir. But St. Requiem's classes usually dealt more with physical powers, and their curriculum for magic users was a bit...lacking. So Lonna liked to use the Midsummer library whenever she could.

Tiptoeing, Lonna peeked over her sister's shoulder to see who was passing their hiding place. "Oh my gosh," she muttered in annoyance, "Is that Blaine?"

"Is he using an entire jar of pomade?" Beriae asked dryly.

"Looks like it."

"Then yes, yes it's Blaine."

Blaine Clare was a classmate of theirs, and at one point he'd been a friend, but there had been a nasty falling-out between them when it turned out that Clare wasn't quite the nice guy he pretended to be. Sides were taken, lies were addressed, and at least one of the Noon girls ended up challenging someone to a duel in the quad. Subsequently, the rumors that Blaine and Beriae were arch-rivals were not entirely unfounded.

"What the hecky-heck is he doing this close to Midsummer?" Beriae hummed to herself.

"Plotting nefarious schemes," Lonna answered promptly.

"Lon, he's a jerk, but not everything he does is a nefarious scheme," Beriae snorted. "Don't give him too much credit."

Ignoring this, Lonna squeezed out in front if her sister, scowling. "I see you," she hissed under her breath, "I see you, villain!"
Faint wisps of pink energy began to glow around her hands. She'd gotten a lot better at controlling her magic when upset, but her control was not perfect.

Beriae touched her sister's hand, draining the excess magic back into her own hands, where she would be able to safely harness the wild energy and refocus it as something more useful, like a shield or projectile.
(There was a reason people didn't pick fights with the Noon girls.)

"Annnd there he goes. Coast is clear." She crossed the street and headed for the wrought iron fence surrounding Midsummer Institute. "Over the fence or under it? Whatcha wanna do?"

Lonna fussed with her poncho. "Can we go through it?"

With a flat expression, Beriae gestured to the four inch gap, then to their bodies, and she raised an eyebrow.
"Unless you somehow learned a Flat Stanley spell when I wasn't looking, then no."

Lonna made another inhuman groan, and this one needed no interpretation.
