Description
GASP! Thank you `znow-white for the DD!All my charcoal works can be found here: [link]
I've had a bunch of people ask me to make a tutorial on how I go about my charcoal works. So here's a write up of how I make them.
If you've still got questions or think something isn't clear enough, just let me know. I consider this a 1.0 version and I'm sure I'll hack into the file to edit it at some point. And please check for typos. I checked a bunch of times, but I'm sure I missed something here or there.
If you're interested, you can see the finished artwork here: [link]
All charcoal works in my gallery were made using this technique. I have anime fanarts, cartoon fanarts, game fanarts, animals, realistic portraits, and still lifes. I have pieces that use only charcoal and pieces that incorporate a lot of pastels as well.
The fullsized 1000 pixel wide version is on download. So click download if you want that version.

Charcoal is, by far, one of my favourite mediums ever. I'm the type that works best with darker mediums than lighter ones, since I have a habit of starting out darkest to light. I love to be messy with it, too. >> If it gets all over the table, I know I've done a good job. Hopefully, I will be trying your method soon. ♥

You read my mind.
I even painted my table black. Figured I might as well, since it was well on its way anyway.

XD ha! That's the best. Do you like pastels too? I love them. They make such a mess, but you get to create your own colours and be real with your art. Like charcoal, it's a great way to feel closer to your art.

I like them, but not as much as charcoal. They fight me a lot using this technique, sadly. But I have done a piece or two with just pastels. They blend so smoothly, and I always end up completely covered in dust.

It's good to see people still doing awesome traditional art tutorials rather than digital ones. Great job, the pic is wonderfully done too!
