Hunter: MePhotographer:
So first and foremost, the new game Bungie is working on, Destiny, looks absolutely friggin fantastic! I can't wait to get my hands on it. In fact, me and my fiance were so excited in the wake of the E3 footage, we decided we had to cosplay it, ASAP. So we got it done just in time for Metrocon 2013 down in Tampa, and needless to say we had a blasty-blast.
So in this picture we have my cosplay of the Hunter class, complete with my prop pistol. My pistol isn't anything too fancy, I just built it to look like it was a Destiny hand cannon, but I've been lovingly referring to it as "Sassafrass". Anyway, I based this costume off of some concept art and a render shown only briefly in some destiny trailer footage. Needless to say, it was love at first sight, and I can't wait to get my hands on this gear in game!
Also, many thanks to our photographer, , for taking the time to do this shoot with us. It was a blast, and now that I've finally gotten my hands on all the shots from the shoot, they were well worth the wait!

dude, this is so freaking cool man. Just, wow. I love all your work, but this man, this is something to behold. I love everything you've done with it, this shot in particular shows it off the best, however I JUST LOVE the large gun from the other photos. Dude, tell me, how did you make all this?? Did you use fiberglass or what? How did you get the molds or make them??
I'd love to know, man!!

By large gun, did you mean Super Good Advice? That's actually a legendary LMG I found in some early concept art, and it was certainly an adventure to put together. To answer your question we make most of our stuff either from scratch or by modding things to the point of being unrecognizable. My fiance is a wiz with a sewing machine, and made the cape for me, the flightsuit I bought originally for my Mandalorian costume, but it worked for this, same with the boots and spats.
The pistol seen here was modded from an old, broken airsoft shotgun, the chest piece has a main layer of EVA foam, with the actual plates made from pvc sheet. The knife was put together out of a couple layers of wood, the shoulders are EVA foam with a layer of craft foam on top. I absolutely despise my ab plate in this by the way, I need to find a better way to secure it. The helmet is two main pieces, the majority of it is a paintball mask, with a cool repaint and some extra bits added on. The visor portion is a cheap welding visor I got off of Amazon and modded the crap out of, I even had a tech savvy neighbor of mine help me install red LEDs behind the visor.
If you are ever curious about construction details on anything I do, just ask away! I love talking shop, so never think you're bugging me.

That was super good advice?! I didnt even recognize it! I'm not used to seeing the concept art in 3D yet, haha.
Yeah, I've been wanting to make a suit for a very long time. I wanted the under suit to be a combination of cloth, mesh, and latex, and then have the outer armor connect by magnets so it could easy snap on and off. I want to have the outer armor as fiberglass, but I don't know how expensive that is. One problem I have in the process is how would I make he molds, most of what I want is completely unique designs, and I have nothing to make a mold out of.

I use magnets for my Mando. They're nice, but they can get kind of annoying if they're not secured right. They have a tendency to slide around and get turned over and stuff like that, so if you go that route make sure you secure them good. I'd also have a little bit of industrial strength velcro to help support it. I haven't toyed with fiberglass, so I can't help you there, but I will say you can probably accomplish what you want with pvc sheet or EVA foam, along with some epoxy. As for molds, I know a lot of people make them out of foam or clay. Be warned though, resin can get really expensive.

How would you suggest keeping magnets still in cloth?
And yes, I know. Oh, I havent thought of velcro.

For my mando vest, I currently have them taped in place with gorilla tape on the underside of the cloth, but I don't recommend it, at least not by itself. I've seen people sew them in place with small pieces of fabric, but that's precision work. What I'm moving toward is finding exactly where I want them, super gluing them in place (NOT hot glue, super glue) and putting the tape over that as added security. Probably not the best method, but it's working so far.

Sounds good, I have no better ideas at the moment. How strong do the magnets have to be? Especially since they'd be holding up fiberglass. Where do you even find plain magnets like these??

You want to make sure you get rare earth magnets. Those suckers are strong and actually need some force to come apart. I get mine at Hobby Lobby, but you can try the internet as well.

Jackpot! They should have a little strength rating for the magnet packages there. I get the small circular ones that come in packs.

Dude, I'm always happy to help other costumers, I'm honestly glad I've gotten tot he point where I'm confident enough in my skillset to even offer help. I've still got a lot to learn, but if you ever have any questions send me a note or something and I'll answer as best as I can.
