Description
LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK! Map being created for SFM.Thought a reference image may help to see what I am trying to match. I am really looking for opinions on what to do with the door area. The door itself turned out WTF awesome, but the walls around it still seem kinda plain. Maybe a hanging flag on either side?
Been a busy weekend, so not as much progress as I would have liked.
Changes from 03:
-Door at the 3 hall ends (pattern is an attempt to replicate that from the show).
-Intersection area work in progress (not shown here, though)
The door is a replica of that from S2:E1 when they first burst into Canterlot Castle and run into Celestia. It is not the actual door for the Hall of Elements per the show, but such door was never actually shown in enough detail. This is NOT the door to the Elements themselves; just an "entrance" to the hall (though the doors themselves will not actually open). Texture was created myself in Photoshop.

Will you be releasing this to the public once it's done? lol I really love it, and I'd love to use it in a video!

I plan to, though the actual map is being made just for a video I have planned, so may not be released until that is completed (to make sure all bugs are worked out).

I'd agree that hanging large flags/tapestries on either side of the door would be a good way to fill space. As for above the door, you might think of of some sort of carved relief or painting.
Btw, have you thought of adding the ring of trim you see a few feet up on each of the columns?
I wonder if you could add the view overlooking the maze and grounds to the skybox, to complete the scene more.

I was thinking a carving of some sort as well. A plain picture could look strange with the stained glass... unless it was a round stained glass... brb test stuff lol.

I doubt that stained glass window would work well there, because wouldn't that wall be connecting to another room/hall?

It would "technically" be connecting another room, but that door is the one that won't be opening, so not like it would ever be noticed.
I decided to work on the intersection instead tonight as I am more creative when jumping around. Will get back to it eventually.

Bottom of the walls matching the door like it has in the reference picture. Then I think it'd look great! That door is wtf mind blowing. Nice job!

I will see what it looks like with the walls having the baseboard things, but being they will only be on that one wall and not follow around I see as just being strange looking.

Looks awesome. love the texture on the door. you could try flags, or plants maybe. with a design similar to the others. statues maybe?
It might be better if the doors could open. or make them world static props and release the doors as separate models. incase you need an entrance/exit animation. (just disable WSPs and use the models for that shot.) not required, but something to consider.
What view were you thinking outside the windows?

I was thinking statues, but making them could be a bish... though I have an idea that may make that easy.
The side doors will stay just a texture because, if they opened, I would have to make something on the other side. The hall is going to be made like a closed environment, besides the one room I will be adding >_>
Outside the windows is still up in the air. I was thinking of making a small garden on either side and use hedges to block view of the horizon. Creating the maze in a skybox would work (as mentioned by GunGryphon, but would look strange if you were too close to the window. I am brainstorming over time and taking it in stride. ^^

Think i know where you are going with the statues
Fair enough on the doors.
3d skybox may be the best bet. the hall is supposed to be high after all. may need tweaking though.
Also, the stained glass windows are each a separate texture file right? have you considered using gobo lights to project them on the floor? then you even gets them projecting on models as they pass by. (dunno if they work in maps like they do in sfm. could always provide the vmts as separate files for people to use)

You are probably right about the statues ^^, but I was also considering just posing and reskinning the pony models to look like stone. Walla, statue.
3d skybox was considered and still is. Never done one before, so would have to learn how.
I wanted to play with the lighting a bit more later, but focus on it more when the map itself is finished with the details. Would rather not spam the map with lighting effects and such while still moving models and brushes around.

yeah that's what i was thinking on the statues. (though now i'm picturing vids of stone ponies attacking lol)
fair enough on the other two accounts. all i know about the skyboxes are they are suppose to be 1/16 scale. that's it.

what's the name for the paneling that rises from the floor at both sides in the small picture?

Not sure what they are called. The small picture is from the entrance to the Castle, though. The hall does not have them. Just stealing the door texture, basically. Thought about putting it just on that one wall, but a quick test of such just looked a bit strange and out of place.
