Description
Working on building a small library of downloadable animation sequences that can be imported for use. Will be posting them as I make them. ^^ Any updates I make will be kept separate, so you can still download older versions if you want. This is a running sprint animation sequence for use in Source Film Maker. The animation is 3/4 second long (18 frames); the entire sequence is 12 seconds long. There is no modifications to the rootTransform. Not quite sure if I am 100% happy with this, but will upload any changes I make. Original took about 2.5 hours to make.
Requires Nahka's Pony Overhauls: poninnahka.deviantart.com/art/…
Downloads are done from a site I used to run and is sitting dormant for now. Will change the link if it becomes an issue.
Version 1: Download: www.dropbox.com/s/sqws82g0z32a…
Version 2.1: Download: www.dropbox.com/s/rxa54d56mjzi…
This "should" address some concerns people had on the run cycle having too much "hop" and not enough pelvis movement. As the pony models can't have the gianormous legs cross without clipping, I tried to position them so any clipping that does occur is as minimal as I could. If you still see a way to improve it, please let me know!
Changes from v1 to v2:
-Leg timing changed
-Front legs pull in closer to the body when moving forward
-Back legs swing further back
-Hooves curl more upon leaving the ground
-Overhauled how the chest and pelvis move
-Wing animation added
-Ear animation added
Changes from v2 to v2.1:
-Slowed down the kick of the back legs. It was causing a slide.

Is there anyway to use this in GMOD? I feel like pony servers could really use this for their sprint animations instead of the increased speed walking/trotting Animation.

No idea. I do not know all that much about Gmod in that regard.

I have no problem adding the animation cycle, however, after my graphics card crashed and recovered for no apparent reason, the animation cycle would paste 30 seconds earlier than its supposed to... And if I copy it, it only animates to 35 seconds, even though the clip runs for 6min. Does this mean I need to start the project from scrap due to corrupted data? Also, can a song file influence the pasting of animation cycles?

if you had already made changes in the motion editor such as lip syncing when I add the animation it wipes all my previous done work and pasting them back in does not work is their a fix?

Load the animation on to a dummy model loaded just for that purpose. Then, you can copy paste only parts to the main one. In this instance, you can copy/paste only the body motions and leave out the facial animations.

Also big big BIG fan of your work you have inspired me so much and this SFM i'm working on right now would not be possible without your tutorials and creations to inspire and teach people like me who are interested and seek to work on SFM.

that's pretty awesome! I noticed the mane sorta fold onto itself in the side view, did you do that on purpose or was it a side effect of some animation technique?
I'm a novice animator myself and noticed some things about your animation. I rely on my physics engine rendering for proper bouncing and idle motion. I actually use 3DS Max and Maya for that type of stuff, so the physics engine likes to be weird sometimes. i had one of my models implode because i set a center of gravity directly inside of it, instead of directional gravity, funniest thing i have ever witnessed.

It is just the jigglebones. They are rendered in real-time and are based on movement. I would normally refine them in a video to be more fluid as the automated movements can be a bit mechanical at times. =/

yeah. i know what you mean... 3DS Max is the worst of the worst when it comes to movement. i tried animating a basic bipedal skeleton once and i forgot to remove the limbs from the gravity engine, i ended up with something similar to this... www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRZ2Sh…
but with a lot more flailing.
the havok engine is amazingly hilarious at times.

Be sure to deselect the rootTransform when loading it up. The animation cycle saves the xyz location of where it was original saved, which could be who-knows-where compared to the map you are using.

How do i deselect the rootTransform?

argodaemon In reply to SlenderManWoods [2013-09-22 23:21:15 +0000 UTC]
With the whole model select, ctrl-left click the rootTransform and it will be deselected. Then you can right-click any of the other parts that are still selected and load the animation.

be sure to right-click any of the parts that are selected and load from there. You do not need to do it from the base model.

What version of pony model are you using? Some of the older models only had a "viewTarget", but it didn't work in SFM. It was made for Gmod.

It is an animation sequence file (.dmx) for use in SFM. It will only open in that software.
If you right-click a model in the Animation Set Editor (and there are no locks currently on the model), you can select "Import", than "Animation". Find the dmx file you downloaded here and load it up.

argodaemon In reply to SlenderManWoods [2013-07-03 07:25:59 +0000 UTC]
I made a new folder in the usermod folder called "dmx" for storing all sequences. There is no installing. It is just loaded anytime within the software that you want to use it.

You don't have to, but it is a good option for keeping things organized. They won't automatically pop up as an option in SFM, though. You will still have to load it onto the model.

I just wondered, I am planning a short scene with my OC pony running and this animation would be PERFECT, does it only work on canon ponies or can I tweak it in some way to work with my pony as well?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
argodaemon In reply to TheIflame [2013-06-08 14:43:43 +0000 UTC]
If the bone structure is the same or close, you "can" copy the sequence over to it, even if it is not the same model type it was built for. Copying across bones and different model types can be complicated and I actually recorded a tutorial on how to do it. Just haven't uploaded it yet... Will try to by the end of the weekend or something.

how do you export animations? I've been messing with that recently, and the option for exporting animations is always grayed out... facial animation export it lets me do, but that's not what I want.
Is it similar to how just importing animations is temperamental sometimes?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
argodaemon In reply to PacificPenguin [2013-05-15 23:26:43 +0000 UTC]
You may have to make sure all of time is selected along with the model. I know the animation import/export can be a bit strange sometimes, but I think it is more based on user error than the system. I find myself messing something up with it nearly every time. >.<
