Excellent details... a must for a genealogist pursuing German roots in Eastern Europe! It is very helpful for my German friends to know which regions their Ancestors came from, and makes it easier to pinpoint records that are not readily available on the internet. It also makes a wonderful geography lesson for those less interested but the colors and design makes it all so interesting. I was also amazed the largest cluster was in Russia... i am aware Catherine the Great invited Germans to settle there in the middle 1750's. Mine ancestors moved from the BΓΆhmerwald to Croatia (then Hungary) because of Empress Theresa who wanted them to settle there to create a bulwark against the expansion of the Ottoman empire. Three Thumbs Up!

The Russia Germans were called by Catherine the Great (also a German) to cultivate especially
those barren steppe lands and increase the amount of population (tax payers).
