Description
Solafae Barrindar and Kylee Jandi. Sol is the big drow, Kylee the toddler. Kylee is the hero of Neverwinter, raised by Daeghun Farlong and Sol, mainly Sol, Kylee will tell it. Solafae and Daeghun are not lovers, merely two souls who came together to raise a baby, after tragedy took away Kylee's mother. There is debate over just what Sol is to Kylee, whether its mother, sister, or guardian. At the end of the day though, Kylee is quick to declare Solafae as her mother. Sol herself is not as quick to embrace the label, though she certainly has tackled the duties that come with it.Sol (c) Me

So, this drawing has taught me a number of things:
1) I have completely forgotten how to draw lips. I had it down pretty well three years back. Now? Gone. Vanished.
2) In addition to lips, I cannot draw children, eyes, Sol's hair, the list goes on and on.
3) Hands are definitely on that list. Those I just gave up on.
4) Sol is perplexed. She has all the facial expression range of Kristen Stewart, but I assure you, she is perplexed.
5) Fuck your hair, Sol. Your pigtails too, Kylee. XD
6) I should have stuck to the stock photo I originally based this on, found here: [link]
7) I'm not particularly happy with the drawing. But that's irrelevant, because the real subject matter is the short accompanying piece to this pic:
There were days when Solafae Barrindar was…fond, of Kylee Jandi. No, that wasn’t the correct word. It didn’t matter. She would find the proper term to describe how she usually felt about the child.
There were other days, such as this one, where Solafae longed for the Blood Wars, for its torments surely paled in comparison to what Kylee had to offer. Sometimes, she even wondered if the girl was a trick by Kelemvor, a unique punishment for inadequately holding up the tenants of Lolth in her previous life.
“You will urinate, Kylee Jandi.”
The devil-drow stared down at the tiny human girl sitting upon the privy, looking up at her with big brown eyes, and an even bigger smile, wiggling her toes in a careless gesture as she sat.
“You will become privy-trained.” Solafae sighed at the girl, before taking a scroll from her pocket. “I have outlined some very important, logical reasons that you should learn to use the privy, and--”
A high squeal of laughter interrupted Solafae’s speech, causing her to frown at the child. “You find this amusing? Kylee, learning to use the privy is an essential skill.”
Silence and a cheerful, baby smile greeted the tall drow.
“Use the privy, Kylee.” Solafae commanded in her most stern voice, the same voice that had made men snap to attention, and obediently walk toward their own deaths in service to her and her mother.
Kylee merely giggled at the sound.
Another sigh escaped Solafae. “You’ll never be a proper soldier if you can’t take care of this one thing.”
The girl blew a raspberry in response.
“Yes, I suppose its not for everyone.” Sol sighed yet again. “Still, I really must insist that you put some effort into this particular issue, Kylee. I am…not eager…to change your diapers all your life.”
Kylee let out a yawn.
“You’re getting tired? Good. You may not leave until you use the facilities. I know that you need to.” Solafae crossed her arms over her chest. “And I am capable of waiting all day until you do.”
Kylee blew a kiss at Sol.
“The consequences will be dire if you do not cooperate.”
Unable to understand why Sol didn’t smile, or blow her a kiss back, the two-year-old stared at the drow for a long moment, before bursting into crestfallen tears.
Alarmed, Solafae knelt down, and helped Kylee arrange her clothes, and pulled her gently to her feet. “There’s no need for that. I…I suppose we can do this again later. You may leave, Kylee.”
The little girl brightened immediately, and gave Sol a quick hug, before running off to her room, and seizing the nearest stuffed animal.
The warrior couldn’t help a scowl. She had been outsmarted by a two-year-old. Not for the first time. Not even once. So far, she had been tricked by Kylee on five separate occasions that very day. It was becoming unacceptable. She would need to discuss the matter with Kylee, and come to some sort of agreement.
But before she could consider points of negotiation, the smell of burnt fabric waded past Solafae’s nose, and her crimson eyes went wide with alarm, as she rushed towards Kylee’s room, and immediately covered the burning stuffed animal with a blanket to smother the flames, the little girl laughing and cheering the whole of the time.
“I hardly find it feasible that you would set something on fire. Again.” Solafae informed the little girl, showing her the burn marks on the stuffed pink pig. “It’s not as though you don’t know what happens when you do this.”
Kylee’s lower lip trembled at the sight of the burned pig, and alarm flashed through Sol’s head yet again. “Do not cry. I must insist that you do not. We…we can find another toy.”
The little girl immediately brightened, and offered Sol a hug. As always, the drow was unsure of how to respond, and merely cleared her throat in an uncomfortable fashion, looking away as the little girl latched onto her leg. She felt she should give Kylee some semblance of privacy when she was feeling emotional. Granted, that was all the time, but the least she could do was not stare at Kylee like she had crawled out of a pit of slime each time she offered a hug. She could look away, and be civil, and stand there patiently as Kylee got whatever it was out of her system.
But the smell of something burning returned, and this time, it was wood. Sol’s eyes went wide as she looked down, and saw that Kylee had used what sparse magic she had to create a ring of fire around herself.
The warrior immediately picked up the girl, and stamped out the small fire, wrapping her arms around Kylee to shield her from any harm.
The girl snuggled comfortably up against Sol, draping her own arms about her neck, smiling once more.
That was the seventh time that day Kylee had tricked her, Solafae decided, if one chose to count the stuffed animal instance. Still…she seemed happy, much happier than she was when the warrior simply stood there, and allowed the embrace to happen.
This time, she had inadvertently returned it, her arms wrapped protectively around Kylee. This…this made her quite happy. Perhaps…well…perhaps if no one saw them, it would be acceptable to return such a gesture.
And with that, Sol gave Kylee’s back a tentative pat, and awkwardly curled her arms tighter around the girl, taking heed to be gentle with her small frame.
She was so little, and so warm in her arms, clinging to her like Sol was all the protection she had in the world. And despite herself, Sol drew her even more snugly against her muscled frame, wanting nothing more than for this little girl to feel…protected.
Yes, that was the word…was it? There was something more than simple defense. She would learn what the word was, one day.

I know right? She has that butter wouldn't melt smile that Sol doesn't trust for a minute. I imagine that once Sol got Kylee a new toy, she was tricked into playing with Kylee for hours. XD
