Description Started on this two days ago - for fun.

Staying fairly low poly with a stylized feel, slightly true to the original design.

Sorry for the screen grabs, I'll put out some nice renders soon once the unwrap is complete and a few more trinkets have been added for additional value contrast. - Time for bed.

Nice to work on something personal for once!

10 hrs / Max / Zbrush

-------------------EDIT-----------------------

Also, I am using this amazing work from NitrogenCity as about 80% of my inspiration. I just couldn't get over how well it captured Cloud's Character.

I really like the stylistic shapes.

Thanks! It has been fun so far! I think I am taking on something bigger than the three days I have left of freedom though...

Loving it big time, however I feel like I must point out his original outfit does feature a closed turtle neck and the straps on his back are very different!

Have a peek!

Whoa, Thanks so much Linus! That is amazing reference, thank you for sharing it with me.

I love the straps you have shown me. - I'm having a really difficult time deciding the best way to approach them. I want them to be more than just a hand painted texture. Yet, I want them to look good while staying at a reasonable tri count. They need to animate well too, which is why they are welded to the body.

Hmm, I wonder if I should just make this model a bit more detailed than what I set out for. I just kind of started working on him out of no reason anyways

Sorry to rant - Thank you for the great feedback!

Oh believe me! I've gone through the same problems, I've attempted quite a few times to create an old school designed Cloud aswell, never came out the way I wanted it to.

I've got a massive folder of reference images and models from my previous attempts at going at it so if you'd like I'd more than happily share them with you.

Nice. But 10 hrs and Zbrush sounds strange.

Thank you! The time consuming parts have had to deal with engineering his geometry, figuring out what surfaces I needed to add for painting, what edges need to be added for animation, etc.

Right now, he is a vert-welded mesh, besides the nuts and bolts sticking off of him. That process probably took the longest, but will make my life easier when it comes to unwrapping and rigging.

I used GoZ to get his silhouette strong and make large scale changes with ease using the move brush. I used the smooth brush to evenly space out topology in organic areas.
