Dc. RoBUTnik W.I.P. Well, Im a huge fan of the OLD sonic cartoons and games, heres my favortie version of dr. robotnik. The new egg man in the games looks too wierd, I dont know what sega was thinking, but anyways....I want to eventually texture him and normal map him in max for my portfolio...any comments would be great....Related content

I am brand spanking new to this site (not even an avatar yet!!)I see your picture is old, but I feel I need to make this my first comment. I absolutelly LOVE this. Holly cow!! I have not looked at any of your work other than this yet, but this is so realistic, and is based on my favorite version of Robotnik. Great work! I am so peeking at your site!!!

Eggman is the real Robotnik. When SEGA marketed the Sonic games in the US, Eggman's name was changed to Robotnik. I'm not sure why.
Because of the Anime/Manga boom America hit (and other places), there was a huge outcry by fans against censorship of animes/mangas and pretty much anything else from Japan. Like how they butchered YuGiOh, Tokyo Mew Mew, and Pokemon to name a few.
While that explains why few refuse to use Robotnik, more recently it has to do with the character not looking anything like his counterpart in Sonic X and the Sonic Adventure games. Most of kids of this generation know the character as Eggman, not Robotnik as we do. Unless they're hardcore Sonic fans, they probably don't even know about ATOSth, SatAM, or the Archie Comic Version.
Also, in the Archie Comic version, Dr. Robotnik has been killed off and Eggman, a robotazied version of Robotnik from another zone/reality, is in place in the story. This was to go along mostly as a tie-in to the Sonic Adventure games.
Since Eggman apeared in the comic about the time of the anti-censorship, Archie probably went with the current trend and just kept Eggman. Tis a shame, since I would love to see SatAM's Dr. Robotnik come back cause trouble for Sonic and co.
