Description This has problems. I was so anxious to get back to doing art I don't think I spent enough time thinking it through. Ink and prismacolor. Originally it was meant to be ink only. There will be more dragons with scales and spikes in the future, and probably be another in this pose, but with a different tail. Taking all advice offered.

Great job, but personally, I think that either the dragon or the environment needs more color.

Pretty, with interesting creature design! The perspective of the arm could be better, right now it looks rather bulky. Maybe the hand should be closer to the chest, with the fingers curled; also, some additional shading might give it more depth. Do more dragons!

I tend to give them substantial forelegs and feet/hands.

I like the horns a lot, and I'm glad you decided to do prismacolor-- it adds so much to the drawing. I'm a bit puzzled as to why the scales stop abruptly at the bases of the wings, though.

It was the first........actually so far, only, scaled dragon I've tried in years and I hadn't thought out how to handle the transition from scales to wings. If I did it over, or more as I planned I would have the scales overlap the joint and fade out.

Glad you liked the horns, they were a first in a long time, too.

I think it looks great! Llooks like something out of the Rankin-Bass version of The Hobbit, with that color scheme... which I love

I think the only things I might change would be having the tail be longer and curl back towards the viewer, and perhaps adjust the proportions of the fore and hind limbs; they seem a bit big to me but that might just be my tired eyes

i adore dragons, and this one really caught my eye. i love the pose! and most of all i love the style of coloring you use...how you layer colors to bring about that gorgeous 'alive' look. only thing i would mention is the joint of the wing...if you just add some scales crawling up from the body so it doesnt seem just attached on. great work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to toujin [2005-10-19 15:22:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, and that joint bothered me and a few other deviants as well. I don't normally draw scaled dragons, but one's with leathery hides, so I hadn't dealt with that problem before. I do think a few scales would help.

Oh, well I thought you had been catching my bloopers. Heaven knows my typing is like 2 steps forward and 1 back. I'll be typing along and have to back track constantly to correct spelling or words with their letters all backwards and jumbled. My fingers stumble all over themselves *widens eyes* and I seem to especially be having trouble this morning!! Put it donw to lack of sleep. By the way, my fingers know how to type, they just can't seem to wait until their turn for their letter. Like a bunch of little children crowding in line.

icedragon369 In reply to ArtbySandiJohnson [2005-10-14 00:10:37 +0000 UTC]

yes, i have paranoid little anxious fingers too, always afraid they'll miss their turn, therefore words come out in a very....original...way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to icedragon369 [2005-10-14 11:54:34 +0000 UTC]

LOL "very original way" I like that. Mine tend to come out looking like word puzzles..........which should allow the reader to be creative with what I had just said...........if I left it that way, that is I believe the typing is going a little better this morning. I was trying to bead last night and kept knocking my beads all over the place. I also kept saying I was too tired, but I didn't quite until I was sure my design was going to work and I had some of the bead colors separated out.>>>>I can be SO stubborn sometimes, *whispers* (just like my mother, don't tell anyone) *looks around stealthily*

hmm, beads are lots of fun don't worry, i'm quite very stubborn too (like most taurus anyway, lol)

Yes, we could be masters! I thought of a good one on the way home, yesterday, and now I can't remember it! Rats!

Yes beads are fun, until you spill the tiny little things in the couch, ouch! (did I ACTUALLY type that??????)
So you're a taurus? so is my husband. I'm a scorpion. You guys are supposed to stay away from me.................no wait that's whatever he is in the Chinese year of the...........whatever the animal it is for the year you're born in.....hmmm.........whatever his was, was supposed to avoid me like the plague.........am I the rat? I'll have to look it up again.

hehe, zodiacs are so much fun, i think i'm a snbake in the chinese one (but if im a snake and you're a rat, methinks you should be wary, lol)

rats are quite cute, although i consider some others of their rodent fluffy family cuter, rats arent all that bad

hmm, the spilling of beads in the couch...i think that's why i ended up giving up on them, hehe (i never could find all of them again, i'm sure there still must be beads all over the place)

I have left a trail of colorful tiny beads behind me every place I've ever lived. I own way too many, too. I need to get them used up and make good the investment!

My daughter has a small dumbo rat, that I will be taking care of when she goes to college next year. We've had hamsters, adorable little escape artists. Rabbits are in a different family, but we've had 3 of them.

I read my zodiac stuff once and awhile, but I don't really get into it. It's a kick.

i find zodiacs amusing, although i never really read them, i just ponder them endlessly

we used to have 7 little adorable gerbils, yeah they kind of escaped too, but not for too long (they go to experience this never seen before matter called "carpet" and even "couch" and occasionally "plants" or "table"....they even got to see the webcam...the good old times )

My niece's would escape and disappear totally. My daughter's would get out, she had one that was huge (hamsters) and was a great escapee. We had to wire her doors shut. But everytime they got out, I would hear a noise in my bedroom in the middle of the night, turn on the light, and she would look up and it was as if, Okay, you caught me, I'm ready to go back now. She wouldn't run. Another one we had to lure out from behind the piano with a trail of food several times, but we always got her. They were really tame because they were handled so much.

icedragon369 In reply to ArtbySandiJohnson [2005-10-22 02:23:08 +0000 UTC]

yeah, our main concern was that they would get lost in the walls and chew them up and poor thiongs would get squished (and the house might collapse, although of course it couldnt technically come to that, lol)....we tried to play with them as much as we could, but since we all go downtown for work/school and all, thye didnt get all the attention they should have

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to icedragon369 [2005-10-22 03:38:48 +0000 UTC]

I think you need to be young, like 7-12 years old to really have enough time to give them what they need. They're just not like dogs and cats, I think they need more attention to 'stay' tame. We were always concerned about what they were chewing up, or if they really got away what might get them.

We had one we bought pregnant. We didn't know she was. At one point with her chewing up her extended cage I could just imagine her getting out and taking all 7 little tiny babies with her and hiding them and not being able to find them before they got hurt, or grew up and ran amok in the house......I'll tell you the rest of the story later.

hehe, it's funny because the same thing happened here: i recieved two female gerbils, and one of them was pregnant, but no one knew. so we ended up with 7 little adorable furballs

ArtbySandiJohnson In reply to icedragon369 [2005-10-23 13:06:06 +0000 UTC]

Could you see them growing everyday? It's amazing. I will always have an image of the mom carrying them around by a hindleg in her mouth, or maybe holding one in a front paw and walking on 3 legs. There was one time that a couple kept crawling out of the nest and she kept fetching them back. Finally she went to fetch them again. She came back with one, got to the nest and was holding it upside down with one of her paws. She held it in front of her face and did hamster yammering at the youngling than dropped it, dropped it, into the nest. Hehe! I guess he got what for!

icedragon369 In reply to ArtbySandiJohnson [2005-10-23 23:37:49 +0000 UTC]

yup, got to see them grow up they were so cute...fisr they looked like wriggly pink worms and then larger worms with really short and rare fur, which crawled out of the nest. and then their auntie or their mom would come feth them. then they became miniatures of their parents and would run around exploring everything, fearless little things
