I love the pearlescence of the unicorn. I've always imagined them like that.

Beautiful! Such a peaceful scene. And the iridescence of the unicorn is amazing!

thanks, and I agree that traditional work needs more attention ...and love.... it's take certain skills and definitely time to do traditional work that isn't required with digital work

You're welcome! I second that! There's a lot of work that goes into it that other mediums don't have so I feel like a lot of the time, people lack that appreciate because they just don't know. Maybe it's not all polished and shiny like digital art but it's a whole different medium that deserves the same amount of attention.

digital art is polished and shiny and I think that is why it gets so much attention, it just jumps out at you...if it's good stuff...and there is good digital art that is absolutely beautiful....in some ways it's like girls (and actresses with boob jobs)....you see those that refuse to get it done, or were 'natural' back in the 30's 40's 50's 60's and 1)you admire the natural grace and beauty of those old actresses and admire the current actresses for refusing to change themselves...and you worry about all those boys growing up seeing these enhanced actresses and they grow to think women are supposed to look like that and not appreciate what nature provieds...they expect girls to look like the actresses....anyway....I agree, traditional art deserves as much attention, and perhaps a little more respect, then the digital because it does have certain inbuilt hardships

Yes, that it most certainly is. Traditional doesn't always jump off the page in a thumbnail or at quick glance. I definitely love a good digital piece and my brother is a digital artist so it's something I definitely respect for what it is but as a traditional artist, it's hard to watch it take such a backseat sometimes simply because it isn't "shiny" and "polished" all the time. A good comparison! Yes, I know that sometimes while working on a piece I start wishing I had "layers" and "control+z" haha!! XD

After I have worked in digital, especially I get to wishing I had layers or redos when a few strokes of color turn out to be less then desirable. There is a significant amount of both digital and traditional that is of low quality, inexperienced or immature. Hopefully the mature, refined work of both will be recognized and appreciated.

Haha yup! I know the feeling. XD
Yes, this is very true. That's something I'd love to see accomplished; though I'm fairly sure, there's enough that feel the same way that it definitely might be!

... you will see a stranger from across a crowded room - and then you will know, you'll know even then, that the dreams of a lifetime wil come to an end...
Not word-perfect - it's been years since I heard that song, my dad used to audition with it.
Lovely shiny unicorn!

that was pretty close if not word perfect....the image doesn't fit the words to the song, but I kept thinking of that title while I was working on it...that and The Witching Hour, which is midnight, so doesn't work either...so I named it that anyway....since it looks enchanted and almost evening

Oh my goodness! Another gorgeous pastel drawing. Oh I love the enchanted feel this piece is giving off, not only because of the unicorn, but the soft glow of the pastels and the multitude of flowers. Now I am definitely attacking my own pastels when I get back from vacationing in Holland

I hope I will handle them well! I've only done a little pastel work during my recent art course, not nearly enough to grasp the medium, but enough to wet my appetite. I felt a lovely kind of freedom in the way you build up colors (fixing stages and then working on top) to create wonderful effect. I've got gorgeous visions in my mind and hope to be able to do them justice

LOL, I feel like I'm still learning too...I don't fix mine between layers but use an expensive suede like paper that really hold a lot of pastel

I've heard of suede paper! Never actually used it, says something about me, hehe ^^' I'm going to see if the local craft store has it. Hopefully they do!

You seem to find some of the most beautiful scenes from nature, and paint them into fantasy so easily.
This is a fantastic piece of art.

a deviant friend in California took the photo...she has some wonderful scenes and graciously has let me work from them (yay! yipee!)
...they practically paint themselves into fantasy

love, love, love it!! The unicorn is perfect with the light and colors
The wind and the heavy wisteria combined last month to do a number on my gazebo...going to have to do some major pruning and rebuilding before next spring's regrowth

LOL, glad you liked it. Like the other photo I feel like I can do a lot more with the next interpretation. I'm still learning pastel so it seems like there is only so much I can do with it now. I think I'll try oil next time. I want a unicorn in the next version of this one. But the other landscape I can think of several things to do with that scene. (including a unicorn)
