Description
An ink drawing (sepia, stippled) enhanced with prismacolor. First done in 1995 in ink, it was too pale and weak, recently added prismacolor to give it more body and prescence. I like it better this way.Related content

That is very cool, I love the detail and the way it looks like one of the old-style unicorn drawings. Beautiful shading work too

Hun, it's a very nice stippeling job, but you might want to cite the reference you used for the image. Because I know in the original image, the reason there was reference to a snake was because this image was made to illustrate a story about a unicorn trampeling a snake that was posioning a water source. ^^ Older story, older image, but it would be polite to cite the source, for artistic courtesies.

Hun, there was no original reference material, because I made it up out of my head.

Nice, I love the pose and the action in this piece. It's like a snapshot of an unicorn in full action, which is a nice thing to be able to capture. I'm no good with action poses myself, so I like seeing when they're done properly and perhaps learn a little in the process.
Great pic, keep it up.

*sighs* thanks, but it (patience) seems to be running a little thin lately-it's been a long 2 years

We probably want patience to feel like NOT being impatient and tense while we ACT with reason and control. Courage is acting bravely even when terrified, NOT being without fear. I suspect we want to not FEEL the irritation and rush and aggravation. Also, as we get older and have more resposibilities and less time, there is more to be tolerant of and patient with and that makes it harder.
Having been dealing with things and hanging in there and coping for so long has worn me out so that my nerves are stretched and frayed and I don't have any reserves. I sometimes find myself loosing it before I even realise I'm in danger of it .

I'm always running out of patience. But then everyone tells me how patient I am. I'm just thinking the definition of "patience" is changing for me.
But yes, I can imagine how always being patient could get tiring comparitive to other things.

Hey! That was very weird!! I wrote the response below to your comments and they were attached to our conversation without your comments going along in front of it??? Did a cut and paste and thought I would try it again!!?? Life and computers-definitely are weird.

Computers are odd things. I generally try to stay on their good side...
In that case, I'm not sure that I've ever been truly patient in my life. Obsessive perhaps... but not patient. I'm still only 19, so I guess I haven't hit the big items yet - and to tell the truth I'm not sure I could handle them if - no... when - they do come.
I can't really relate to the feeling of being stretched too thin over too many things, but I hope you do find some respite soon. Look after yourself.

Definitely must stay on computer's good side-they are diabolical!!
No, you haven't run into tuff stuff yet, although being 19 doesn't mean you couldn't have run into some really nasty stuff, just that luckily you haven't (or that you've got the irritation from seeing stupid thing after stupid thing that people can do build up and effecting your attitude)
Actually at 19 you should just now be maturing and aware of the need and ready to deal with being patient. That is probably why you feel like you're not and you concept of patience is changing, because you're at a stage where you're an adult and trying to deal with things with patience and intelligence. You will do fine and as bigger things come along, because you dealt with smaller ones earlier you'll be ready to handle it.
Things have ligtenend up around here, some. This summer when we get moved and this fall when I have the house orgainised and am looking for a new job things should be much better. The time of raising teens is a hard one for adults and add to that job insecurity, moves, family deaths, teen problems and you can get a little frayed. I just need to get moved and rest up a little.

I count myself very lucky. It seems like everyone around me is being hit with these issues, and I'm just cruising through it all, trying to help them as best I can without really understanding. Everyone's growing up around me.
My mother gets like that sometimes. She's studying at the moment, and I help with the house and stuff now. But when she first started (a couple of years ago) I was much more immature, and had no idea about all the sorts of different stresses she was under; I mean, she was her studies, some casual work, and looking after the house and my sister and I. I cringe when I think about how blithely I took everything she did for granted.
Hope the move and organisation goes well! I've never moved, but we have had renovations... Anything that messes up your living space is stressful (or, you know, exciting if when you're 8).

Hey, you're growing up too, because you can see your mother's life and responsibilities from her view point now and helping and because you're aware of the things going on in your friends lives and helping as you can. That's maturity. Don't sell yourself short.
If there is one thing I've learned from our 5 moves is that they are never smooth or easy (one was in the pouring rain, but luckily never in the snow) but they get done and usually well. You just sort of plan the best you can and muddle through the rest. And I've been through the remodeling too and you're right it's all very stressfull. (When I was 8 my father died and my mother dropped us off at my grandparents for a few weeks while she got things wrapped up and got all of our things moved to their farm. I'm sure I would have found that quite exciting if it hadn't been for the circumstances. The move 3 years later was certainly very exciting! )

What a wonderful image! The tonal rendering is just mind blowing, I can't imagine how long this must have taken you with all that stipling. But with such a gorgeous result it was time well spent I think!
I love your style of unicorns, utilising such classically beautiful poses, those beautiful flowing manes and such detail! And not to mention your skill with scenery too... sorry for going on a bit I'm just awe-struck!
