Chapter 13: Fallen Angel, Part 1
Daniel remained silent for a long time, unsure of what to say. He opened and closed his beak 4 times before finally speaking.
“I don’t understand, though…why would he lie to me about this?”
“He never told ME anything about being my cousin,” Jess piped in. “He always seemed like a good person. I’m sure he had a good reason.”
A good reason…
Jack’s connection to Claire had never really been significant before, it only rarely came up, but part of him trusted Jack because he…
He stopped dead, realizing that was EXACTLY why: trust. Jack lied to him about his identity to gain his trust. Without Claire there to remove the mask, Daniel had no reason to NOT believe him. The man could spin any story he wanted, and Daniel would have no reason to not believe every word. But to what end? What else had the Kitsune lied to him about?
He looked back over his shoulder, in the direction the man had headed in. Did Jack really trust him so little? And if he was using this identity, where was Claire’s REAL brother? Obviously, they needed to have a long conversation.
“I’ve…” Claire suddenly said, walking closer to him. “I’ve really missed you, Danny…”
His expression and heart softened a little at this and he bent down to nuzzle her with his beak. “I missed you too.” He noticed she was starting to get thin, like she wasn’t eating enough or lost weight from being sick. “Are they feeding you enough? You’re getting thin.”
Before Claire could answer, the Naga outside declared, “You’re down to 18 minutes, Gryphon. Clock’s ticking.”
Daniel was annoyed by this, being rushed. He snapped back, “Oh, and are YOU gonna be the one to drag me away?”
There was a pause. “No, but Silver will be.”
Silver…Danny wasn’t sure he could win a fight with that wolf, though the snake-man didn’t sound entirely sure of his response.
He turned back to Claire, figuring he should take the time to get some info from them. “How exactly did you get here? What were the Iron Talons doing in Michigan?”
“They weren’t.” This time, it was Ben who spoke up. “It was the Black Fists.”
The Black Fists…he remembered them from that night, his blood chilling at the memory of O’Ryan and The Siren killing those police officers. They were 2 of the members of the Big Three, the leaders of the Black Fists. According to what Shorak and ‘Jack’ told him, they were Monster Hunters, Mystics that hunted humans for sport. They had a strong presence in Boston, especially in and around Camp Boston.
“They kidnapped us to try and get to you,” Claire continued the explanation. “They…they tortured me to….” She suddenly paused and looked away, uncertain.
“Claire…whatever you told them, it’s alright,” he reassured her. “They would’ve found out anyway and would’ve only hurt you more (or worse) if you didn’t tell them. I’m just glad you’re alright.”
Her expression softened just slightly, showing a hint of gratitude, though she still looked away from him. He could only imagine what they did to torture the information out of her, and he felt it best not to ask. Jess was still recovering from what the Revealers did to her and she wouldn’t speak of it with ANYONE, even Claire.
For the next 10 minutes, the 4 of them told him much of what had happened over the past 5 days: how William lured them out of the relief camp, how they ended up in Boston, how Shorak rescued them, how they ended up in the Iron Talons Camp…how they ended up as prisoners…
It was during this time that a small bird landed on a nearby rooftop, a pigeon from the looks of it. It didn’t look out of place in the urban setting, so he didn’t give a second thought at the time. Its black eyes, however, were intently watching the goings-on, like it was recording everything it saw and heard.
He could tell they left out many parts, like why Claire fainted so suddenly, but many things besides that unsettled him. During this account, he noticed DA was listening more and more intently, especially toward the end.
Shorak’s grandson…the old man never mentioned anything like that to HIM… “Do you have any idea whom his grandson is?”
Claire shook her head. “I thought it might be you, be that can’t be it. He did think his grandson was dead, though, maybe that’ll be a hint.”
A chirp suddenly sounded behind him and he turned to see that Alex had finally walked up. Ben’s expression filled with joy upon seeing him. “Alex!” He ran up to the Peregryphon and they nuzzled for a few seconds, the latter trilling softly. He noticed Alex wasn’t much bigger than Ben, even though he was a lot older. “I missed you!”
“Alright, your 30 minutes are up,” the Naga guard declared. “Time to go.”
Danny immediately shook his head. “There’s no way in hell that was 30 minutes.”
The Naga hesitated for a moment, then said, “Well, I did warn you.” He raised 2 fingers to his lips and whistled sharply.
~Just walk away, Daniel,~ DA suddenly said. ~We don’t…~
“Not now, DA,” Daniel snapped. It took him a moment to realize he had spoken it aloud.
The others, with the exception of Alex, stared at him oddly for several seconds. “Daniel…who’re you talking to?” Jess finally asked.
He shook his head. “It’s nothing, I was just thinking out loud.” He soon saw Silver approaching and realized DA was right: fighting here wasn’t a good idea. “I promise, I’ll come back and see you all again soon.”
“Are you hearing voices in your head, Danny?”
This gave him pause and he looked back at Claire. He thought at first that she was being sarcastic, but there was curiosity in her eyes, and he realized she was being serious.
He shrugged. “I’ve…made a new friend since we last saw each other. It’s complicated; it’d take too long to explain right now.” He turned again to leave, missing the surprised look on her face.
Alex took a handful of seconds to follow, listening to something Ben was whispering to him. He looked in the direction Shorak had walked off in, his gaze narrowing just a fraction. Then he shook his head and followed Daniel.
Daniel’s mind raced. Claire…he was happy beyond words to see her again, but he didn’t need a doctorate to know she wasn’t doing well. And the things she said about Jack (or whatever his REAL name was) and Shorak left him confused and with very few answers. He could also tell she was hiding something from him, though he couldn’t put his claw on exactly what it was. There were unexplained gaps in the story, things she didn’t want him to know like the agreement between Shorak and Charon and why Shorak locked them up. They wouldn’t elaborate when he asked and he decided not press them at the time, given the time constraint. She said he imprisoned them shortly after she told him about Daniel’s past but refused to elaborate.
They’d need to have a much longer conversation in the future, but for now he’d have to settle for interrogating ‘Jack’, then going in search of a doctor for Claire.
As he made it about 30 feet from the building, he suddenly heard Claire cough. It was quiet, even from this distance, but his sensitive ears picked up the sound immediately. The sound pulled at his heart, but he knew he wouldn’t be allowed to stay longer. “Just hang in there, Claire. I’ll find someone who can help you,” he muttered to himself and continued walking.
Jack was just pocketing the cell phone when Daniel and Alex walked up. “Command is re-considering Shorak’s offer, reviewing their options. We’ll receive word by tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, we need to talk.”
“Yeah, ‘Jack’, we DO need to talk,” Danny growled, glaring at him. “You can start by telling me who you REALLY are.”
The man hesitated for a moment, studying him silently. “Yes, I guess it IS time to have that conversation…but not quite yet. Let’s head back to the police station first.” He shifted into his Kitsune form and turned toward the main entrance.
The 2 Gryphons exchanged a glance and Alex shrugged. They’d talk about this later, once Alex was back in human form. They quickly took to the air, intending to meet Jack back at the station.
Wes was infuriated. First the police, and now THIS? Shorak had told him what would happen the night before, he understood that it had gotten out of their control, but this was going too far. He was done doing this shit for the Gryphon; if Shorak really wanted to go through with this, he’d have to find someone else to do his dirty work.
When he found Shorak in his ‘bedroom’, he was talking to an Aarakocra, one with the plumage of a golden eagle. The young avian looked worried, holding a large sack in his right hand. “Look, Shorak…” the bird-man said hesitantly. “Are you sure about this? It’s not too late to back out of the deal and…”
“Yes, it is,” Shorak interrupted. “I understand your concerns, Keith, but I have a plan. There was no way to avoid what happened last night, but…” He sighed and shook his head. “Trust me, it’ll work out in the end.” He paused, ears flicking at Weston’s approach. “You can go, Keith. I’ll contact Charon when we’re ready.” The Aarakocra nodded and took flight, leaving the bag on the ground.
Wes eyed the sack uneasily, knowing EXACTLY what was in it. “So…THAT’S the next stage, then? The next ‘task’ he wants done?”
The old Gryphon nodded. “Yes, with a few alterations. We need to-“
“No.”
There was a long silence. Then: “What do you mean, ‘no’?”
“I mean I’m not doing it, Shorak,” the Dragon snarled, baring his fangs. “After what happened last night, I…I can’t have any more blood on my conscience. If you’re really going to go through with this, then you’ll have to find someone else.”
Shorak sighed, closing his eyes. “So be it, then. You can go, Wes.” He started to turn away, but Wes stopped him.
“Do you even HAVE a plan, Shorak? What would your GRANDSON think if he knew what you were doing?”
The Gryphon remained silent for a time, back turned to Wes. Finally, he said quietly, “I’m going to kill Charon. Then, our deal won’t matter.”
It took almost a full minute for Wes’ mind to register that statement. “And what makes you think this’ll be different from the LAST time you tried? He almost killed you back then.”
“Because I didn’t have THIS back then.” Shorak finally turned to face the Blue Dragon. He wasn’t holding anything in his raised talon, but as Wes watched, he reached up and removed something from one of his claws. As the metal cap was removed, a distinct green glow was revealed, completely coating that claw.
“Is that a veil…?”
“A PERMANENT veil,” he confirmed with a nod, replacing the cap. “I had it applied to all of my claws on this talon by a mage, then enchanted so that whomever I stab with this set of claws will be injected. The change will disable him long enough for me to strike him down – or, if he manages to escape somehow, make it much easier to kill him later. I’m just waiting for the perfect opportunity, when I can pull it off without a hitch.”
Wes shook his head and spread his wings. “I wish you the best of luck, then, but I’m leaving.”
Shorak nodded. “Come see me later tonight. We need to discuss…”
“No, Shorak, I’m LEAVING,” the Dragon growled, shaking his head. “I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and this was the final straw, your holding Claire and her friends hostage. I’m through with the Iron Talons and all of this shit.”
There was a short pause. “And where EXACTLY would you go? You really think Brocke and the Silver Claw would take you in?”
Wes hesitated at this for a moment, suddenly uncertain, then shook his head. “I’ll join up with the Army. They could use a Dragon’s help.”
“The Army?!” the Gryphon scoffed. “And what do you think will happen when they find out what you did last night? About how you lead those officers there, to their deaths? They’ll kill you in a heartbeat.”
He faltered at this, his wings dropping an inch or 2. He looked away. “I…”
“You don’t have anywhere else TO go, Wes,” Shorak continued, shaking his head. “At least here, you won’t be prosecuted.”
Finally, the young Dragon folded his wings, snarling at the Gryphon, “I’ll figure out SOMEWHERE I can go, but I’m not staying here forever!”
The old man nodded. “I’ll find someone else to carry out the second task. I’ll have other work for you soon.” With that, he turned and climbed into his nest, turning away from Wes.
Wes growled and turned to walk away. Shorak was right…but damnit, he’d find another solution, somewhere else he could go. So, he’d stay here a little while longer. His gaze turned westward to where Claire and the others were being held. For the time being, he could at least see how they were doing…
It had been an hour or 2 since Daniel and the others had returned to the police station.
Danny was impatient, claws curling and uncurling beneath him, leaving furrows in the gravel, looking up every time the main door opened. Jack wouldn’t even say why it was taking so long, doing God knows what. Alex was in human form, doing something with a cell phone he’d pulled out of that backpack he usually carried around. He didn’t even know the Peregryphon HAD a cell phone and it wouldn’t occur to him until later that Alex should’ve already known about Ben if he had access to one. Phillip was off somewhere, doing something for Jack.
“Relax, Daniel,” Alex finally said, looking up. “I’m just as in the dark as you are, but getting yourself worked up over it won’t help matters.”
Daniel grunted in response, then went right back to worrying.
He just couldn’t figure it out…why would Jack lie to him? He had some bad things in his past, but he was doing everything in his power to change. He might’ve understood initially, but the man kept the lie going. And why didn’t he ever mention Claire and Jess being kidnapped? Or Ben being kidnapped? Did he even know?
His thoughts were interrupted by the return of the object of his confusion. Jack muttered something into the phone before pocketing it. “We’re heading to the northern section of the city. We’ve-“
Danny cut him off: “Who are you?”
Jack chewed his lip for a moment, thinking. “Ya know…it was very inconvenient that Claire showed up here. If they hadn’t brought her here, we could’ve been done with this job and back in Michigan before you found out the truth.”
“So, you DID know she’d been kidnapped!”
“I only found out 2 days ago,” he explained. “How the hell was I supposed to know they dragged the 4 of them across 6 states after kidnapping them? How was I supposed to GUESS that? Command had no reason to believe the kidnappers even left the state. Plus, we couldn’t exactly just turn around and go back.”
Daniel wanted to shoot back a retort, but something kept his beak shut: he didn’t like it, but Jack was right. It wouldn’t have been realistic to drop everything and go back. And if he had been told, he probably would’ve gone back on his own to help look for her. It was hard to argue with logic that sound, no matter how much he didn’t like being left in the dark.
His mood was somewhat sedated by that revelation, at least, though there were still plenty of unresolved questions. “Are you going to tell me who you are?”
“No, I’m not.”
It took a second for the response to register in the teen’s mind. “What do you mean, ‘no’?”
“My identity is, for the time being, classified. You can still call me ‘Jack’, though, since that’s still short for my real name.”
“So…what? You expect me to just pretend you’re Claire’s brother and carry on like nothing’s changed?”
“You never even KNEW Jakora, Daniel,” Jack growled, eyes suddenly narrowing in annoyance. “Why WOULD anything change?”
“Because you used his identity to gain my trust!” Daniel rose to his feet, his anger rising several degrees. “You told me you’re her brother because Claire and I are best friends! Without Claire here, you could feed me whatever bullshit story you felt like spinning and I’d believe every word! How can you expect me to still trust you after betraying me like that?”
“You don’t have to trust me, Daniel, you just have to do your fucking job.” The Kitsune’s eyes sparkled dangerously for a split second and his left lip curled back in a snarl. Even in human form, the effect was plain as day. “Speaking of which, we finally have our orders. We’re heading north to make contact with the Silver Claw.”
Infuriated, Daniel took a step towards the Kitsune. Before he could take another, Alex stepped forward to stop him, planting a firm hand on his shoulder. “Come on, just let it go,” he whispered, shaking his head. “You DON’T want to fight him.”
The young Royal snarled, “And what exactly IS my job? So far, the only thing I’ve done in this city by your orders is sit on my ass! You haven’t had us do ANYTHING yet! You said we’d be running reconnaissance! We haven’t even asked a single person about Lorcan and his group yet!”
“We’re not here looking for Lorcan anymore. That was the plan at first, but you were already told the plan changed: we’re here to investigate Mystics attacks on humans, and that’s exactly what we’re doing, it’s just far more complex than we thought.”
Daniel shoved past Alex with a mighty push…and stopped dead in his tracks. In the blink of an eye, a large blue fireball had popped into existence an inch in front of his beak. Jack’s eyes were now glowing an electric blue, his expression dangerous.
“You DON’T want to fight me, Daniel,” he growled, his voice low. “I’m a far more powerful mage than anything you’ve ever seen and could do things with telepathy that would turn your blood to ice. Your ‘job’ is to follow my orders, and at the moment that means going with me to meet with the leader of the Silver Claw.”
“And if I refuse?”
The fireball suddenly shot forward, just close enough to singe the feathers between Daniel’s eyes. He flinched away, taking several steps back.
“Then that $3,600 disappears.”
His blood froze at this statement, anger and shock in equal measure on his face. Even Alex couldn’t keep the surprise from his expression as he turned to stare at Jack. “You wouldn’t!”
“All it’d take is a single phone call and that bank account will cease to exist, the money in it transferred back to federal accounts. Help me with this job and you’ll walk away relatively wealthy. Step out of line again and you’ll walk away with nothing. This is your only warning, Daniel. I suggest you take it to heart.”
Daniel slowly backed down, defeated, head lowered. The ball of Faux-Fire vanished into thin air with a quiet ‘Pop!’ “What did I ever do to deserve this treatment? Why won’t you just give me the benefit of the doubt?”
Jack shook his head. “You already know what you did, Daniel. With the amount of blood on your hands, did you truly believe we trusted you? As far as anyone is concerned, you’re on a probationary period. You should be happy because instead of rotting in a cell right now – serving a life sentence – you’re being given a second chance.”
Daniel’s heart plummeted, that familiar guilt returning in full force. He knew, deep down, that he could never truly escape his past, but he had truly believed he was being given a chance at redemption…
Jack’s glowing eyes started to dim and he huffed. “If it had been up to me, you’d be rotting in a cell, but it wasn’t up to me. You don’t know it, but you’ve got friends in high places. I admit you’ve started to grow on me a bit, but you’ll have to do a lot more than just save a few people to change my mind about you.”
Daniel looked away, a tear leaking out of his right eye. Alex patted him gently on the shoulder.
“Now that we’ve finally reached an understanding, it’s time to get to work,” the Kitsune suddenly said. “Brocke, the leader of the Silver Claw, has reached out and wants to have a face-to-face.”
“We already HAD a face-to-face,” Alex snapped back. “He sledgehammered my head into the cement with his foot, remember?”
“He’s since then found out who you are and wants to parley. Apparently, he also has another of Daniel’s friends, though he didn’t say whom it is.”
Daniel chuffed at this. “I don’t HAVE any friends that aren’t already in the city. Not any I care about anymore, anyway.”
“Well, we’ll find out one way or the other when we get there.” Jack turned to walk away. “We’re leaving in about 3 hours.”
Jess nudged Claire again, trying to get her to get up. She hadn’t said much of anything since Daniel left and hadn’t moved from this position in a corner of the room.
“Come on, Claire,” she whispered to her cousin. “It’ll be fine, I promise.”
“She’s getting worse,” Ben said quietly, shaking his head. “She needs…I don’t know what she needs, but she won’t get it here. I don’t think Razur or Sinar CAN help her, even though they obviously want to.”
“We need to get her to a hospital,” Jess responded.
“I…I don’t think I can get there without help…” Claire suddenly whispered, barely audible, her words sending a pang through Jess’ heart.
Jess looked around the small room, trying to think of SOMETHING, and her gaze inevitably fell on the loose wall panel. She hesitated. They were being held for ransom at this point, it would be a LOT harder to get away now. Did she even HAVE a chance of reaching Daniel?
“Go,” Ben suddenly whispered with a nod. “Daniel NEEDS to know. Jack might’ve lied to him, but he’s not a bad person and I know he’ll help when he hears about Claire’s health.”
Jess slowly approached the panel, knowing Ben was right. However, she immediately discovered a serious problem: she couldn’t grab it with her paws, she couldn’t push it aside with her snout, and using magic to move it would make a lot of noise.
In truth, she knew EXACTLY what she needed to do to move it, she knew before she even started, but still she hesitated.
~I have to use a glamour. I can’t get it open otherwise.~
The second she thought the word ‘glamour,’ that overpowering fear returned in full force, and with it so did the memories.
She screamed, writhing in agony as the cattle brand descended again, burning away another large patch of fur as they held her down.
“You shapeshifters make me sick,” the Revealer with the brand growled, spitting on her. She tried to cower away, but could barely move. “We usually just kill your kind, but I think it’s high time we made an example of one of you.” He tossed the rod aside and drew a Bowie knife from the sheath attached to his belt.
She whimpered and struggled futilely. “No, please, don-!” She screamed as he grabbed her right tail and started to cut. And she kept screaming, again and again, until she was hoarse. Finally, the deed done, he withdrew, clutching her severed tail and sporting a sick smile on his face.
The blood quickly stopped flowing, but the tears took far longer and the tremors even longer than that. She begged and pleaded with him as he tossed the limb aside, but her pleas fell on deaf ears and he went to work on her second tail. Her throat was raw by the time they finally left her there…
She staggered away from the wall, shaking her head violently and trembling. She reflexively looked back, to see that both her tails were there and hadn’t been cut off again. It took almost a full week for them to grow back and her fur barely covered the branding marks.
Her thoughts paused as she heard Claire cough weakly, an all-too-common sound now. “Please, Jess…don’t force yourself to…” The statement was cut off by another coughing fit.
She looked back at her cousin, staring at her with deep sadness in her eyes. The sight was like a punch to the face. Claire NEEDED HER…she needed her, now more than ever…
She suddenly heard the metal panel starting to move and turned back to see Ryder pulling it to the right. “Ryder…?”
He turned to look at her solemnly. “Come on, we need to find help for Claire. I’m going with you.”
Jess hesitated, unsure of what to say to this.
He shook his head, frowning. “I can’t change shape; I can’t use magic…but I DO have THIS.” He reached up and tapped his nose. In that moment, she knew EXACTLY what he meant.
“You have a dog’s nose!”
He shrugged, smiling sheepishly. “No nose better.”
She turned to look at the hole in the wall. “It’ll be dangerous, Ryder…”
“It’ll be dangerous for you, too. At least if I go with you, you won’t be facing it alone.” He paused. “Come on, Jess, we’re wasting time.” Without waiting for a response, he knelt down and squeezed through the hole.
She hesitated for a minute or so longer, looking at Claire. Her cousin didn’t say anything, staring silently. Then she looked at Ben. “Will you both be alright here?”
He shrugged. “I’ll watch after Claire, just go get help.”
She nodded and followed after Ryder.
They hadn’t gone very far when she heard voices. She immediately ducked into the shadows of an alleyway, followed shortly by Ryder. It took her a moment to realize the voices were coming from a nearby building and she started to relax. She started to move on, but Ryder stopped her. “What is it?”
He sniffed the air curiously, snout lifted in the air. “It’s Sinar and Razur.”
This gave her pause. The 2 felines obviously wanted to help Claire, but was it a good idea to seek them out?
Ryder quickly moved to a nearby window and she joined him, jumping up against the windowsill to look through the window, ears pricked. The 2 were embroiled in a discussion, Razur was pacing, neither was looking in their direction. There was a pigeon perched on the rooftop, which made her uneasy, but she quickly forgot about it as she made out what they were saying.
“…a doctor. Her condition is getting worse.”
“You won’t even tell me exactly what this illness is, Razur,” Sinar pointed out. “If it’s not contagious, how serious could it be?”
“Because she’ll DIE if she isn’t treated for it!”
The world ground to a halt and Jess’ heart stopped beating for what felt like an eternity. She opened and closed her mouth several times, but no words issued forth, only a choked gasp.
Razur continued speaking. “I did some research on Soyronn’s Disease after I realized what she had and I was mistaken on a few things. Soyronn’s Disease is…it’s technically not a disease. It’s actually an allergic reaction to silver, a severe and frequently fatal one. The problem is, Kitsunes stay far away from the stuff and I have no idea how she could’ve been exposed to it to that extent.”
Silver…every Kitsune knew instinctively to avoid silver, CLAIRE knew to avoid silver, but this…the last time Jess touched something silver, she had a bad rash for a few weeks, nothing more.
She almost jumped out of her pelt as she felt a bird land on her shoulder. Her breath caught as she recognized it as Hiro. Rather than raising an alarm, however, he raised a wing in front of his beak, making a trilling sound that almost sounded like ‘shhhhh.’
“Where will you go now?” Sinar suddenly asked, drawing her attention back to the conversation.
“To the local hospital, to see if I can have Claire admitted as a patient,” Razur responded. “I still have a few friends working there. Then I’ll be back to talk some sense into Shorak. This has gone too far.” He paused for a moment. “But first, I need to find Hiro. He’s vanished, for some reason.”
Jess drew a sharp breath at this, looking at the little bird in confusion. He made that quiet shushing sound again.
“He’s not coming when you summon him?”
“No.”
“Could he be hurt or…?”
“No,” Razur instantly cut him off. “I’d know if he was hurt, even if I can’t sense where he is. He’s been worried about Claire, even more so than I am.”
“I’ll keep an eye out for him,” Sinar promised. “But Claire is the priority right now. I’ll see if I can work something out with Shorak from my end.”
Razur nodded gratefully. “Thank you. Hiro's a good friend of mine, we’ve been through a lot together.” He tilted his head in farewell and turned to leave.
“Ya know, Razur…it almost feels like we’re brothers again.”
He hesitated for a moment, hand on the door handle, then he grunted in response and left.
As Sinar left as well and the silence resumed, Jess looked over at Hiro once more, still perched on her shoulder. She dropped down from the sill and sat on her haunches.
“You…you want to help me, don’t you?” He shrugged in response. “You…want to help me to help Claire?” This time, he nodded enthusiastically.
“I guess we got someone else helping us, now,” Ryder observed, smiling at the bird.
Jess nodded in agreement. She didn’t know exactly what Hiro could do, but they needed all the help they could get…

Vey nice! Jack and Daniel's face to face is full of tension.
I think at Daniel's place, I would have turned heels the moment he tried blackmailing him with the money. Now the argument about rotting in prison is much more convincing...
Daniel is loaded with guilt if he asks Jack for the benefit of the doubt - Jack should be asking him for that precise thing! What a jerk. I hope we get a nice scene where his karma will come crashing down on him.

Jack’s karma or Daniel’s? Cuz i’m pretty sure karma came knocking for Daniel in the form of Ethan turning him into a Gryphon - tho some would argue that that was, ultimately, a good thing.
