-------------------------

A bit eccentric, perhaps.

I wanted a similar style to this other one I made a few weeks ago, like if it was another place in the same world and time:

Well, in fact, I used this same color scheme in several images in the last few months... Here are some examples:

I built the structure in SketchUp, rendered it in Vue. My biggest problem here was deciding when to stop building it because I just wanted to go on and on and on...

EDIT:
Several people commented on how dangerous this can be. Well, fear not because those orange stripes are in fact a force-field generator, automatically activated when someone, equipped with a "Kinetic Bracelet", enters their area of influence. The force field will automatic cancel the kinetic and potential energies of your moving body if, for example, you happen to slip and fall. Therefore, you will effectively stop your fall and start floating above the stripe. The "Kinetic Bracelet" will then call your "Hover Vehicle" to the proximity and you will be able to jump on board and select your next destination.

The "Kinetic Bracelet" has an "adventure" mode which you can activate and will cancel the effect of the orange stripes. This way you can dive between levels at will. Do it at your own risk. The insurance will not cover accidents if this mode is activated.

The "Kinetic Bracelet" has an "extreme" mode which will randomly change the effect of the force field. For example, it can increase your kinetic energy and decrease your potential energy, thereby allowing to make huge jumps effortlessly. It's also extremely dangerous... and, of course, the insurance will not cover any accident.

Warning: not all areas are equipped with orange stripes. The "Kinetic Bracelet" will not let you move in these areas unless you set it to "adventure" mode.

Cripes! How do you get such crisp renders in Vue? What AA settings do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArthurBlue In reply to Saxm13 [2013-05-22 11:57:45 +0000 UTC]

Soft, min-max 4-25, 95%. Only object AA, I never use texture AA.

Sweet thanks!

Do you use HyperVue at all? How long do your renders usually take?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArthurBlue In reply to Saxm13 [2013-05-23 13:46:13 +0000 UTC]

No, I just have an old and simple computer.
Render times are highly dependent of the particular scene. This one took around 10 hours because of the high render settings. A forest scene may take around 6 to 8 hours, a beach scene may take around 2 to 4 hours.

Saxm13 In reply to ArthurBlue [2013-05-24 01:28:51 +0000 UTC]

Huh. My scenes usually take 10+ hours regardless. And that's with 4 PCs at a lower resolution....

Do you mind saving a copy of your render settings so I can compare?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArthurBlue In reply to Saxm13 [2013-05-24 14:04:39 +0000 UTC]

My resolution is not the one you can see on this image (1920 pix wide). I render at 3300 pix wide minimum but only upload the 1920 pix. Those times are for 3300 pix wide.
There's a lot more to render time than just the render settings. A book could be written just about this.
For example, what setting do you use in the quality boost slider of the Light tab of the atmosphere settings? If you use zero or positive values, you are increasing render time a lot more than you need, most of the times with not visible effect. I normally use -1 or -2. Of course, you need to be able to identify the symptoms that you're going too low (for example, blotches in shadows). This slider is also related with the light balance, but I don't have time to talk about it now.
What setting do you use in the quality boost of the fog, haze, tab? Also here yo can use negative values but also here you need to know the symptoms of too low value.
Do you disable wind and breeze? You could, unless you want wind/breeze effects on the plants.
Do you use preset render settings? You should NEVER use them as they are not optimized nor balanced. For example, some have too low AA but too high advanced effects settings - this doesn't make sense.
You need to know what the advanced effects settings slider is and what effect it has - normally you can use low values (say, 40% or so) but you need to know when you should use higher values.
Etc, etc. Like I said, I could write a book.

Gorgeous and unique and a definite fuel for my sci-fi imagination. First thing that comes to mind is not a swimming area for humans, but this is a house and given it's style, a house of importance. So, I see this as the private living quarters for a dolphin ambassador

Suomenlinna [2013-05-21 19:23:02 +0000 UTC]

Shit, I had a dream (actually it was more of nightmare) a few weeks ago, in which I was swimming in some kind of pool...thing that looked A LOT like this. It was all interconnected and there were tubes and slides leading to different levels and pools and whatnot. It was really scary because I kept getting lost and loosing the people who were supposed to stay with me. *shivers*

I saw this on the first page when I opened dA and my jaw literally dropped. ^^ Well done.

ArthurBlue In reply to Suomenlinna [2013-05-21 19:52:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh my, that's eerie that you had such similar dream. Well, I think that my pool, with all the light and sunshine doesn't seem like a nightmare to you and it can somehow soften the memory of your nightmare.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Suomenlinna In reply to ArthurBlue [2013-05-21 20:02:46 +0000 UTC]

It does, it does. It seems like a really nice place to be (especially with the 25°C plus we've been having in Finland for the past week or so).

But anyway, cheers and keep up the nice work!

MillenniumFalsehood [2013-05-21 19:20:02 +0000 UTC]

Lol, judging by how it works, the Kinetic Bracelet must have been designed by Aperture Science.

If there were actual hand holds on it, this would be a great resort, though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArthurBlue In reply to MillenniumFalsehood [2013-05-21 19:50:36 +0000 UTC]

Haha! Yes, looks like something they could build Or maybe they could make it so that when you slip and fall, this would create a portal right above another pool and you just dive in it.
