Description I got some requests to make a coloring tutorial, and so I finally got around to doing it. =^^= It took me a while to make this. @____@;; I hope it helps you! This kills three birds with one stone - skin/clothes, hair, and backgrounds! xDDD Sorry for big file - download to get full size.

Tools to have: A tablet (or skill with a mouse) and photoshop. I used 7.0 for this and the picture, but I'm sure 6.0 and above will work just as well. This is not a tutorial to help learn how to draw! I made this tutorial with the hope that those using it have some knowledge of the human body. If there are any questions, feel free to ask me. =^^=

EDIT: I'm sorry if I can't thank everyone for their favs or comments - my internet kills babies cuz it's so slow and I can't always get to everyone, but I really appreciate every fav, view, or comment! <33

Haha this is very helpful but I'm too noob with colors to make it look like that. I'm like WOAHHOW'DYOUGETTHERESOFAST after one step or so ;-; Oh well I will keep trying until it looks amazing like yours! Thanks so much.

I have a stupid question Is really necesary to have a table to make nice drawings?

Not a stupid question - I think having a tablet helps give more control to digital drawings, but that's just my personal opinion. Some people may like to use the mouse.

i don't use a tablet so i always scan in my lineart. what i really want to know is how to make a basic bg behind my drawings if the lineart is scanned in. could you help me out??? wonderful tutorial otherwise. beautiful work too

Artistic-Defiance In reply to solemnlyswear22 [2009-07-29 07:59:28 +0000 UTC]

If you've scanned in your linework, go to "Layer > Layer from Background" so that you can turn your normally locked background layer with the scanned picture into a layer that you can work with.
Once that is done, set that layer onto the "Multiply" setting. Then make a new layer underneath and make /that/ your background layer. On that layer, you can work your bg magic on all you want without disrupting the line layer on top that's still on "Multiply." If you want to color sections of the linework, make new layers underneath the lines and on top of the background according to whatever you wanna color that way you don't mess up the background color or the lines.

So sorry for the late response! >< I don't check this account as often as I need to.

I have Photoshop 7.0 as well, and as I was following your brush settings, they didn't work. They acted as if they were just on the default settings. Help?

Maybe your tablet driver isn't properly installed/needs updating?
Sometimes it's the tablet that refuses to work with you - mine was PMSing for a while. Dx

I hope it works. D: <33

Great tutorial! Love the way you color. <3
ABER, EINE FRAGEquestion. Does the tablet i'm using have to be pressure sensative? Or is it just the photoshop feature. Like, the pen i'm using CLAIMS to be pressure-sensative ... but I never figured out how to doo that. ;0

Artistic-Defiance In reply to Mizadia [2009-03-17 15:38:55 +0000 UTC]

I think it's both. The tablet has to be able to take the pressure changes, and you have to adjust your photoshop settings so that the brush features recognize it D:

Hi this tutorial really helped me but I have a question I have downloaded some photoshop 7.0 brushes but I don't know where are they loated I just can't find them.

Artistic-Defiance In reply to Anusha-kitty81 [2009-01-10 20:43:25 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad it helped!

Here's your answer: With the brush tool selected, click on the drop-down option of the brush icon up top that lets you view and change the preset brush sizes and types. There's a little arrow on the right side of that drop-down window - click on it. A drop-down menu will appear with several options. Choose the "load brushes" option provided and then locate the brushes you've downloaded. Check your photoshop 7.0 program file. There should be a folder entitled "brushes" or "presets" or something to that nature. Look around the Adobe Photoshop folders until you find your brushes. If they're not in there, you've probably saved them somewhere else - check the folder or file that your downloads usually go to automatically. They should be there.

Hope i could help! <3
