How cute ! He's leading Lara to the right place (probably to take any medpack away from her).
Nice perspective you achieved here with the two openings and a remarkable crack effect on the wall surfaces !

Thank you so much! I worked really hard on all of the details of this drawing. I always thought this level was based off of the real ancient city of Mandu in India...so I decided to look at pictures of it on Google, and I was right. Seeing the pictures made me want to play the game again, and then I was inspired to draw this. I just had to add the cute little monkey. Monkeys are awesome.

Your memory isΒ impressive as you could tell where this level was inspired from
That first level was quite long with secrets all over the place.
This darn' monkey stealing the medpack finally ended in one of my charcoal drawings

I had the same problem until I learned out be faster then the monkey. Then I laugh in his face when I get the medpack.

In fact, the first monkeys you encounter are friendly. I didn't know that!
The one taking the medpack leads you to the first lever and release the medpack. And so on..
I guess thisΒ trendΒ only goes until the end of the jungle. Because after entering the temple, Lara's definitely considered as a threat

I know, I was totally shocked when I entered the temple level and all of a sudden the monkeys were attacking me! I felt like a heartless murderer having to kill them, but they were making me lose my health! Why, monkeys, WHY?

those bastardly monkeys just had to die for stealing my health pack

I was very disappointed in the bad behavior of the monkeys...then I realized their minds were being affected by the Infada stone, just as the people that were hanging around there.

I always thought this was the single most beautiful level of the PS1 games; you've done it full justice.

Thank you! I do believe this level was modeled after the ancient abandoned city of Mandu...it was a thriving city in the 1100's in the jungles of India. Look it up on Google...I think you'll see the resemblance!Β

Wow, beautiful! Is it all done in pencils? You are such a skilled person!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtisticAdventures In reply to GabeCroft [2014-06-29 05:26:14 +0000 UTC]

Well, sort of. First what I did was do an 'under-painting' with marker, and then added colored pencils on top of that. It really makes the pencils come alive. It is a technique I highly recommend...you should try it. But make sure you are using good paper. If you use notebook or computer paper, you will be disappointed with the results.

Wow thanks for the advice! Did you use colic markers? If so, what shade of marker and pencil did you use for the skin? I really like the effect

Oops I forgot to answer your question:

Skin tone colors I use

light peach, peach, clay rose, burnt sienna, lavender, dark umber

I use Prismacolors, both in markers and colored pencils. They are so awesome, and well worth the investment. I bought most of my markers back in 2007 and have only had to replace a handful over the past seven years. They last a very, very long time. Same with the pencils. They are creamy and very nice to blend, and you don't have to press hard to get a nice color coverage. I've been a colored pencil artist for 24 years, and Prismacolors are definitely the best I've ever used.

This is on smooth Bristol. If you are serious about growing as an artist, I do recommend getting these nice materials. Your art will instantly improve, and your confidence will grow because a whole new world of possibilities will open up for you.

I remember when I was your age. I drew for hours, every single day. I encourage you to keep going, keep striving and trying new things. And any time you would like advice, I am here. I love to share what I have learned over my lifetime about art. (By the way I have a son named Gabe too! )

Take care.

Oh and, can you check out my art? I would like some constructive criticism. I don't know how to improve if no one tells me how! Not all of my pictures are clear. I don't scan mine in, I have to take photographs instead as my scanner is playing up (Again )
