a small but appreciative crowd of real friends. I am active in other venues also, so I don't spend as much time here and socialize as much - and most faves are reciprocal.

Stunning! I could get lost in this piece. I love the Cthulu Mythos, though I have a completely different image in my mind, but as a piece of art this is truly breathtaking

This is a genius interpretation of Lovecraft. Your idea about these beings being transdimensional, and should be illustrated as such, is right on...I am currently reading a lot of Lovecraft and seeing your vision of his work is exciting. That checkerboard freaks me out...aside from all the other diabolical enhancements. This points the way to more imaginative view of Lovecraft, who rarely seems to get the illustrators that do him justice. I would love to see an entire collection, or long work of his illustrated solely by you!

The first association I had when I looked at it were the loft beds in Auschwitz I and Mauthausen.

Wow man, that is heavy! You know, I never thought of that at all! Now that I look at it through your eyes ..... yes, indeed!
For me, it was a wobbly construction site, trying to prop up a 4-dimensional entity in a 3-D space. But that is what I always maintain: there has to be enough latitude given for the beholder to add his own interpretion and feelings to it.
Herzlichsten Dank fuer Deinen Besuch!

Hey Otto,
I really donΒ΄t know why I associated it immediatelly with the the beds in those two concetration camps. It was an absolutelly subjective interpretation. I suppose visiting these two camps was such an important thing for me and I still havent coped with all the impressions, so that when I had a look at your drawing they emediatelly came back into consciousness...
ItΒ΄s an amazing drawing anyway.

Gern geschehen und immer wieder gerne...

I love the intricate insanity of the forms here. It's nice to see a more surreal intepretation of Lovecraft, for a change, and this really sets the bar.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtOfTheMystic In reply to DSil [2007-09-15 21:20:46 +0000 UTC]

I try not to be too literal, following the conventional interpretion. What inspired me was the suggestion that what we are dealing with here are 4-D entities, and what we are seeing is a mere slice of their existence in the third dimension....

Thanks for the comment - I can use all the bonus points I can get! Lovecraft was a early favorite of mine. Also for Hans Rudi Geiger, who really got off on the Necronomicon (me too - future project).

Oooh yes.
Haha. Im so behind on my H.P. Lovecraft - sometimes his actual writing style can be a bit dry, but his IDEAS are kickass! I've read a lot of books/seen movies that have been inspired from his work.
I know so much about his things from other sources, I feel like I've read it all. *grin*
someday. slowly but surely.
