I'm asuming you do the watercolours first and then add black ink on top?

Ermmm it's the other way round! I work in black, then use the colours, and re-black if I need to ... it works for me! Sometimes, with the water added to make the pencils 'run' the ink bleeds a little and gives it a natural 'shadow' that is fun!

I've not done anymore to it, yet ... I'm living with it as it is now, not looking at it, and I'll decide about it when I look at it again in a couple of days time!

Thank you! I've not done anymore to it ... yet. I'm taking time away from it to decide what to do next. So many people are saying it is perfect as it is ... but I want to be sure of that.

This is lovely, i actually sort of like it as it is, with the unshaded portions to the right. it has a sense of movement.

coming along nicely! I actually like it with the empty space on the right side.

Thank you. A couple of people seem to have made the same comment, that they like the empty space as a contrast to the busy, intricate side ... I'm thinking about leaving some space blank, but I think I want to let it trail off rather than have a seemingly abrupt line twixt the two sides ...

Annddd... I agree with a previous commenter.. I realize it's a WIP but I think it is already complete. The play back and forth between the forms and negative vs positive space is perfect as it is.

Artwyrd In reply to SuzanneMoseley [2009-12-06 07:09:30 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.
I'm thinking about your comment and advice. To my thinking the line between the two sides is a tad abrupt, and I may just let some more patterns flow into the blank area...but I'm not sure yet ... or just colour some of the sections and lightly add intricacy and fade to blank gradually ...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SuzanneMoseley In reply to Artwyrd [2009-12-06 07:15:28 +0000 UTC]

I disagree. It's not abrupt as the patterns basically hug into each other, already creeping over the dividing boundary in the center. Another connecting factor is the use of color within the outlining areas on the right. I really feel that any other work on this would be overdoing it as fading additional line work into the right side would lose that startling contrast that makes this so wonderful.. But that's just my opinion.. so listen to it LOL!

Thank you for your insightful words I'm am listening to your opinion and at the moment am taking a break from this piece to go back to it with fresh eyes to see what everyone is saying about it! I do have trouble seeing my work as others see it ... so I thank you very much for the time you've taken to type these words of advice and how you see the work too

I have done some work in this kind of psychedelic style, but none of it compares to the detail in this.

Great piece.

This is amazing, I love this. I know this is a work in progress but I think maybe you should leave it like this rather than fill in all the spaces. This way it'll keep it from getting too busy. Just my two cents.

Again, Bravo, I'm so in love with this.

Artwyrd In reply to IReallyWannaKnow [2009-12-06 07:13:08 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for your kind words You're the first one to have said about the contrast twixt the patterned and unpatterned space and I am thinking on the comments and what to do. To my eye it seems to be an abrupt change from detail to 'empty' and I'd like to soften that somewhat, perhaps with some coloured sections with a little patterning, to just coloured to plain ... to try to get the two areas to merge more ... but I'm thinking about it!

IReallyWannaKnow In reply to Artwyrd [2009-12-06 20:42:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, the artist knows best so do whatever will make you most comfortable, since you are the one who has to see it on your wall every day. Though I do so wish it could be on my wall .

Anyway, I was think as an idea that if you do fill in more space, maybe instead of making it gradual, you could just completely fill in that area down the center (on the x-axis) that leads from the detailed area to the other side of the paper ( It's altogether shaped kind of like a bow tie.) and leave the top and bottom area empty. It looks awesome in my mind.

But again, do whatever you feel is best.

Thank you once again for your ideas I'm still thinking on what to do or not to do ... not looking at the work for a while helps me to see it with fresh eyes when I do go back to it, as well as bearing in mind everyone's comments/ideas and I may then be able to see what each person likes about it or suggests about it. I really do have problems seeing or understanding my art as others see/interpret/understand it ... and I really appreciate it when someone, such as your good self, takes the time to make suggestions and insightful comments.
