Description
Yesterday I made a couple of little sketchbooks with the kinds of papers I like to work on in them. The books themselves are around 4" x 6" so the paper inside is even smaller ...I've decided in one to create a reference collection of textures and patterns that I particularly like - taking them in the first instance from work I've already done, but also from visits to places too ... hopefully it will grow ...
Black and white ink on brown paper.
5.5" x 3.5" approx.
around 5 hours to do the drawings.

great designs!
I used to make a colection of textures and patterns that I liked, too!

Thank you. The year 12 pupils in school were completing something similar in their art class on Friday after the head of art saw this and got inspired to inspire them to do some detailed graphic work!

I struggle to come up with new patterns sometimes, so this is a good idea - strike while the iron is hot so to speak.
I'm still amazed at how much depth you get in your work ... that's my next thing to work on I guess ... when inspiration strikes again. Not much has been happening in that department.

I know the feeling about inspiration - I'm in danger of doing nothing but abstract psychedelic designs at the expense of other sources of inspiration/techniques ... so I'm trying to put it to one side ... the lil sketchbook of patterns/textures and words (quotes have appeared in there already!) is a way I can channel the abstract while I search for inspiration from the world around me ...
Oh, I posted a page from the childrens' book I was telling you about ... thought you may like to see!

Thank you ... as I look at it, my fingers itch for clay!!! Perhaps when I get back to school in Sept ... my pal, the head of art, may let me play and fire!

Thank you And I do keep up the work ... sometimes I 'lose the plot' for a wee while when inspiration fads or daily life gets in the way (especially when I get back to school next week, eek!). And thank you for your very kind words
I'm glad you like the lil textures

The most important thing you can be is YOURSELF - to find out what you are good at, where you excel, and what inspires you most of all. It takes time, practice, patience to develop skills and to bring out the best in YOU. I have no doubt at all that when you find exactly where you are 'best' you will develop that area of creativity and it will spill out into all areas of you.
Thank you for the wishes for school ... it'll be fine I'm sure For both of us!
The holidays fly by because we enjoy them ... yet time doing something you don't enjoy drags because you are wishing you were doing something else ... I try to focus on what needs to be done rather than on what I could be doing so that the time flies by
