A few days after Luna earns her cutie mark she was crowned princess by her sister, recognising her ascension to the role she was destined for since birth. They'd been looking forward to this day for so long that standing on ceremony wasn't very high on their list of priorities.I spent so long working on the posing of Celestia's wings in this picture that I almost forgot to include Luna's (relatively simple) wing. Whoops.

Well yeah, now Luna has to guard the night, subjecting her to absolute loneliness.
All happy events happen during the day, meaning Luna will miss out on everything only able to hear about what she missed out on by her sister whom she can only see during the changing of shifts!
Soon Luna will start ridding ponies of their nightmares, seeing as Luna is the last thing they see the ponies of Equestria will blame Luna for their nightmares. Luna won't know because she only comes out at night and will be unable to defend herself.
The night will be shunned.
Luna will be nicknamed Nightmare Moon.
The rest is history.

But, it gets her the best character development and has her known as the most badass princess! So it's all good in the end.
