Description Link me your deviation if you use it! I'd love to see!
If anybody's wondering, I didn't do this because I'm good at drawing oceans, but because ~RavenDragonwing asked.

This is a super-simple version, basically to show the steps.
The ocean at the end looks bland, but at least it shows you how to get there. When I do this usually I do a lot more work on the gradient before the perspective part (as is explained).

I worked this out myself, so I'm pretty proud of that. Although I'm sure it's been done a billion times before.

Extra hints and tips:
Use a large brush from the "thick heavy brushes" preset list and put it on a very low opacity. Go over it a few times getting smaller in brushes, and outline the lower part of the line with a reasonably lighter brush. Repeat in wave-like lines for a breaking wave effect.
If you'd like to add pebbles or sand, simply put your texture underneath, "perspective" it, and make the ocean layer slightly transperant. I use about 90%.

For Photoshop CS3, although as far as I know it should work on most versions.

I needed to find a way to do oceans for a very special person's birthday present...Hint hint...

my filter gallery option is greyed out... is there any other way to get to it?

for some reason when I do the underpainting, it just turns out fuzzy instead of the watery look? o3o

Wow, great work! Heh, even if I do say so myself that does look great. The way you curved it makes for a really nice effect. I'm so glad to have helped!

It's a pleasure, I'm glad it helped somebody! Really this is the first time I've done anything like this and it needs vast improvement, but I hope it helps at least with the perspective things.

Yeah I've used that perspective thing before. It's a really awesome feature. I'm totally in love with it. Saved my butt on a picture I did for my mom last year. xD
