Description My current work in progress. What do you think? Not too shabby, eh? So, I colored the horse a solid red with my old tablet, all of the shading, the girl, dress, and hair have all been with my new tablet! Have I mentioned how much I love that thing? It is so much easier to work with then my old one ever was. And the eraser on the pen is just the coolest thing ever! It saves so much time and it doesn't break your train of thought to change the tools. And the circle zoom-thingy is pretty cool too.

Anyways, this is a WIP. Both figures need a lot more defining, this is mostly rough. The horse needs more colors tones too, cause it's too red. And then there's the flowers both will be wearing, the background, the ribbon around the girl's waist and in her hair.

No reference was used, except for her face. And only her face. I am kinda proud of it too! I have decided I need to do more humans. It's something i need to improve in to do what I want to do with art, I think. So, here is my first serious attempt. If there is a huge, glaring error, please point it out, but I didn't really post it for critique. Although, suggestions with the horse's tail? I'm not sure I like it . . . I'll take suggestions for a background too. I have some ideas, but nothing solid yet. I hope to finish both figures while at Lake Powell, but we shall see! This is definitely the quickest I've ever painted digitally.

Aryenne In reply to Devynn [2008-09-16 02:29:56 +0000 UTC]

Well, if it works, why not! Right? When you're painting or working by mouse, I love that you can change the brush size with your < and > buttons. The CS versions don't do that. Of course, with a tablet it doesn't matter!

Devynn In reply to Aryenne [2008-09-21 23:57:07 +0000 UTC]

ooo Nice . Frankly, I don't even have a tablet, so I'm stuck working with the touch pad on my laptop! ROFL!

Aryenne In reply to Devynn [2008-09-22 00:19:26 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, wow. I tried painting with a mouse, but never got anywhere. I just got too frustrated! I got my old tablet. It's not great, but it works. If you guys ever come up to Salt Lake, I'd be happy to just give it to you. If you consider buying, I got me one of the Wacom Bamboo tablets (sold in Best Buy, actually!) and I love it.

ooooo. I'd hate to take advantage though.

Aryenne In reply to Devynn [2008-09-23 18:52:34 +0000 UTC]

You wouldn't be! It's sitting on my desk collecting dust. I have no idea what to do with it, honestly. If it sits for too long, I might try selling it for $10. I don't think it's worth much more than that! It can help you decide if a tablet is worth investing in in the future. Seriously, if you're interested. If you feel bad, we can do a trade or something! Get a nice print of one of your pieces or something. I do love your art!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Devynn In reply to Aryenne [2008-10-31 00:20:42 +0000 UTC]

I'll give you the $10 for it . The print would work too if you would like to go that way .

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to Devynn [2008-10-31 00:43:09 +0000 UTC]

I would have to think about the print and decide later, but if it's easier, we can do that! Are you guys heading up to Salt Lake anytime in the near future? If so, we could meet and I could just hand it to you. I have no idea how much it would cost to ship to where you are.

I think we'll be going up north somewhere for a utah cattleman's convention in December, but I'm not sure exactly where or when that'll be yet. If worse comes to worse, and if it's not too much trouble, I could always pay for the postage if you'd like . We can also just wait until December to see what the plan there is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to Devynn [2008-11-02 04:09:46 +0000 UTC]

That could be really cool! If you want to save on postage, waiting might be best. It doesn't matter much to me either way. I'm guessing shipping would be between $10 and $15, but I don't know exactly. It's not very big or heavy, but you know how the post office can be . . .

But I'm good either way. Although if you came up here, then I could meet you and your hubby in person!

We're going to be up there on the 2nd through the 5th for the Utah Cattlemen's Convention. Our schedule's busy, but we might be able to work something out so that we can meet .

Aryenne In reply to Devynn [2008-11-27 08:19:01 +0000 UTC]

Very cool. I'm not sure whereabouts I'll be working yet. Where is the convention at? It's not at the South Jordan Equestrian Park, is it? If so, that's pretty close to me!

I'll note you my phone number. You can always text or call when your plans are more finalized.

It's at the Sheradon event center.

Yeah. Do that . That way I can get in touch with you while we're up there. I know that we're going to get away to go see the lights at the Salt Lake Temple, so hopefully we'll be able to meet up .

Uhm...Besides all the previously stated things I think the horse's hooves are a tad too small. That's the only thing I saw that was wrong that hadn't been pointed out yet.

And I have one small question...What exactly is this "tablet" you speak of? I've always wondered what people meant when they say "Oh the tablet I have sucks" or whatever. The only thing I've gathered about it is that it's used for digital art... *is confused*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to Shannon2010 [2008-07-21 06:18:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Good tip.

A tablet is pretty much just a tablet with a pen that plugs into your computer. When plugged in, the tablet is like the paper, the pen like a pen or pencil. This one I love because it responds much more like a pencil does (it even has an eraser on one end, so you just flip it over and the program automatically swaps to "erase" mode!) and feels more natural. I, personally, can not draw with a mouse at all. Some people can. A tablet definitely makes things a lot easier. If you're debating on getting one to try it out, I would start cheap (unless you're not tight on money). My first tablet I got for $50 off of Ebay and it definitely sparked my interest for doing more digitally. Then I got the small Bamboo for $100, which is so much better than my old one! Does that answer your question? Hopefully . . .

Shannon2010 In reply to Aryenne [2008-07-21 14:40:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. That helps A LOT. Other than Ebay, where could I buy one? Like, an actual store? X] That sounds a lot easier than using a mouse. All my digital work was done with a mouse and I feel like it's holding back any improvements in my art because it's difficult to use. I'll definitely have to get a tablet. ^_^ They sound really cool.

Aryenne In reply to Shannon2010 [2008-07-21 23:31:09 +0000 UTC]

I bought mine at Best Buy. I've seen a tablet, I know it was a Wacom but I don't remember what kind, at Circuit City as well. Any big computer store will usually have one or two types available, but they aren't really a common computer accessory right now. Lots of people have no idea what they even do! Good luck finding one! And, if you can afford it, definitely go with a Wacom! Mine's the lowest end Wacom and I love it.

Thanks so much! That helps a lot. I like doing digital art but I don't have the patience to use a mouse. XD Maybe a tablet will help my art improve....*crosses fingers*

Aryenne In reply to Shannon2010 [2008-07-23 05:02:51 +0000 UTC]

I don't have the patience for a mouse either! Just FYI, you still have to have fundamental art skills before you really "improve," but a tablet can make it easier to practice those skills!

Shannon2010 In reply to Aryenne [2008-07-23 13:10:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, yeah...That's what I meant. I didn't mean that I'd get one and just POOF! I'd be a better artist. lol But I've done some research and having a tablet sounds really cool. I think I'm going to buy one when my birthday rolls around. Thanks for your help. ^_^

Aryenne In reply to Shannon2010 [2008-07-23 23:49:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm not certain I'll get it but I do hope so. My dad is really weird about getting things for the computer...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to Shannon2010 [2008-07-27 06:56:50 +0000 UTC]

My dad is that way too. I didn't buy one until I owned my own computer. If your dad is weird about, just keep practicing drawing on paper. Then you're that much farther along when you get a tablet! I still think it's a ton easier to draw on paper . . .

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shannon2010 In reply to Aryenne [2008-07-28 18:01:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...I just ran out of paper in my sketchbook though. Maybe I'll use that as an excuse to get a tablet. XD It may work...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to Shannon2010 [2008-08-03 05:05:14 +0000 UTC]

I will cross my fingers for you! When I ran out of sketch paper, I used to use notebook paper. But I got tired of cleaning up my scans. Although, they weren't very good back then . . .

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shannon2010 In reply to Aryenne [2008-08-03 19:40:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, our scanner isn't working quite properly so I may not be able to get any new pieces for a little while. Which makes me sad because I've got tons of new characters I'm working on.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to Shannon2010 [2008-08-05 22:34:31 +0000 UTC]

I found, for me personally, when I can't update here, I lose some patience in drawing! My scanner is finicky about when it will work, but it always works well (when it chooses too). Dang technology . . .
