Description
Hey! I made a new basing tutorial- this one features my slightly updated style and text instead of my terrible handwriting! I hope this helps anyone who is working on basing! This is made in SAI but you could use similar tools and concepts in other programs and I showed the different layer types to use at the end. If you have any questions or comments I'd love to talk about it.I way also thinking of making something similar but for a large art- I use the same general tools and style but it as some different results and tactics because of the size. Would that be of interest to anyone?
This base is also free for use!

I hope this helps! I know basing challenges a lot of people but it's one of my favorite art things to do so I'm happy to provide advice on my style.

This definitely does
Will find some time to give this a try...
Does this work on GIMP though?
I have SAI too, but I don't use it a lot...

I'm sure you could figure out a way to get it to work in GIMP, you'd just need to develop similar tools. I haven't used GIMP in years and my art was very different when I did so I'm not familiar with it. The primary object of this is to show my overall style- how I build up shadows and light and with what kinds of tools- so based off of what you have available just try to do similar things color and detail wise. Like I said to FriskyGurly3, the concepts of the brushes I was using were:
Marker: has some blending capability, is low opacity unless you press hard, and does apply color (so it's not just blending)
Airbrush: pretty much just a standard pencil- no blending, solid opacity- but a bit more blurry on the edges.
And I pretty much just used different sizes of those the whole time.

Awesome tutorial Asen! Thanks so much for sharing this <3
I know you don't use photoshop, but I was wondering if you knew what brushes to use to replace the marker and the airbrush..?

Haha yea, I really have never used Photoshop. The key characteristics of the tools that you'd want to copy are:
Marker: has some blending capability, is low opacity unless you press hard, and does apply color (so it's not just blending)
Airbrush: pretty much just a standard pencil- no blending, solid opacity- but a bit more blurry on the edges.
So look for or design a brush with those kinds of characteristics? If you search for brushes here I now there are a lot of Photoshop brush packs you could look into and try out that may have tools like these.
