Description
A friend of mine asked why I loved snape/hermione fanfiction so much. Truthfully most fanfiction is overromantic unrealistic crap, its the deepest love in matter of one meeting and unhealthy relationship glorification. I found that Snapes character forces fanfiction writers to make a somewhat logic relationship progression and hermiones character who is so young in the official lore, need to develop futher and be established as an adult. Just these two things lifts snape/hermione fanfiction well above the rest. However, you find plenty of fanfiction where snape suddenly press a button and becomes the sexy man god he secretly was all along, but I suppose it could have been worse.
So I answeerd my friend and said, the thing I like most about hermoine/snape fanfiction is that snape is an asshole. In fact, he is a bitter, smug, annoying man, he may have redeeming qualities but that does not change the fact he is a grade A asshole. It brings up the question, how much should we change for the person we love? How much can we demand that the other change. This is a underlying theme in most hermione/snape fiction, but perhaps not always intentionally. But this question is a damn healthy one to ask and ponder on. Where are my limits, when is love simply not enough. I've gained more from reading snape/hermione fanfiction that I would ever from reading twilight or other crappy romance fics. That's why dear readers, if there are any, why I love this pairing and will forever.

I was pondering the same thing just now and I think you're right. There's a greater chance of character development happening within the story than with couples that are more typically suited in the canon and I love me some character dev.
Great pic, love the raw emotions.

Wow, thank you!!! I love this pairing too, I've had people question it too. I was never really sure how to explain the diference between this and other fanfiction, but you've got got it. This is exactly it. I really don't care for fanfictions where the 2 main characters just automatically fall into bed together. I like to see plot progression, character growth. Thank you for giving such illuminating clarification to my OTP.

That's a very insightful discovery- I'd never thought of my love of this pairing that way but you're absolutely right! The very nature of their personalities seems to demand a certain strength in the writing of fanfiction about them, tackling this and many other relationship dilemmas along the way. Great picture too by the way lol.

Amen. You hit the nail on the head with that explanation. It was a major factor (one of many, admittedly) for why I ship Snamione, but a very legitimate one. Bravo.

I like Hermione and Snape being together when I see too much Lily/James then I think THATS IT! But your right in regards to Snape. He is a hurt man who is emotionally and spiritually suffering from from his unrequited love (hence, the bitterness) I don't think he is suddenly going to turn into some sex god and whip Hermione up and ride with he in the moonlight, its going to take some prodding and deep down understand from her to be with him on that level.

I am --- tackling a Snamione that was begun with a friend who is unable to finish. I did not particularly like where she was taking the romance - to the sex god to too much angst, etc. I have been able to tailor some chapters with Snape so he is less than perfect without being angstily (that's not a word!) over the top. It's a tough balancing act to present something "normal yet flawed". I admire the writers who manage it, and sympathise with those writers who simply cannot do it. Snamione - whether over the top, or just right, I love it. Your image is simply perfect to represent this curious pairing.

Thank you so much for the comment! Yes Snape and Hermione are not simple characters. I think we all have an idea how Snape is supposed to act yet we don't really know much about him. In that regard I think Hermione is easier to potray because our idea of her character is backed up with alot of information and situations given by Rowling. The pairing is also a huge challenge to writers because with Snape comes alot of situations and feelings few of us have ecperienced, and In my opinion a good writer is someone who is able to describe feelings which he/she has not had themselves. But as you say, over the top or not, the pairing is amazing

I suppose that's also why I love snape/hermione. It's not a conventional relationship, and there are always issues that may not ever be resolved, but it still somehow works. I'm re-reading the fanfiction Pet Project, and it displays pretty well that he is indeed an ass, but she's no bucket of sunshine. The dynamic is fantastic, and the question of when love is enough when dealing with a man so broken is hazy. It's too interesting a pairing to pass up!
My friends once asked why I liked this pairing so much, and I explained it sort of the way you did. They've now become just as fond of the pairing as I have

Pet project is almost like banner for the pairing, I think I will reread it myself now that most of the chapters are out I totally agree with you about the dynamic, and in a wierd way they work extremly well togeather. I have yet to get through to the few Potter interested friends I got, but I will forever defend the pairing and snort at comments how cute Ron and Hermione is
Thank you for the favorite and comment!

I decided to re-read it on a whim, and it's just as incredible as I remember it Sure Ron and Hermione might be CUTE, but do they have chemistry? Can they have conversations about common interests? I just never got how such a smart girl could be happy with a guy obsessed with sports.
No problem, I always enjoy talking to others who share in my slightly odd pairing choice
