Description Hey everyone! Have a tutorial! Enjoy!
It's pretty big...so it may take a while to load^^ I cover everything...I think. Yes.

It takes me, on average, 6-8 hours to make a strip. Sometimes longer because I can be REALLY picky with certain things, especially with the line-art. So it varies-- also this had a far less complicated background, so that cuts down time considerably!

Ash, you're a goddess if you actually do this all for the love of drawing.
On just one page...!
It's so amazing....

I'm sticking to TD works, though.

What do you do with your loose paper? I mean... You draw them on paper then scan them - so you must have TONS of panels. I can't ever figure out what to do with mine.. I have them in a folder, but it just stacks up...

Hahah! I have the SAME problem!
I was thinking of putting them into a book or something...possibly selling them on auction?

tk-mocha In reply to Ashwings [2009-02-11 22:41:57 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhhh boy - you could probably sell them yeah

I'm sure people would LOVE that. Original pages usually sell for a good amt of cash

This is one of the best and most informative tutorials I've ever seen. I'm really glad you took the time to explain the little bits that everyone assumes you must know. Also why you do this or that.
I can't wait to try what I've seen here. Thank you

I think possibly my favorite part is the disgruntled face that you unfortunately can't make out in the actual comic.... =/ This was cool, though! I've always wondered how you do it.

I've been trying to start a webcomic for what feels like forever (probably only about three years, but it's torture to not know how to make it look as rad as you have). Thank you so much for the education! I truly appreciate the effort you spent on this, and you've not only been able to help me MAKE a comic page, but you've also made me understand how much work goes into it.

Now I've realized that I completely skip the lighting step. No wonder my pages look so drab. Now that I've learned to use the pen tool, I feel that I've got a chance at starting something good. Thank you so much for the valuable lesson - I don't get to many of those, so it makes it all the more special.

Dunno if anyone points this out on the three pages of comments I didn't read over, but you misspelled familiar at the very top of the page.

*brick'd*

My keen sense for proofreading aside, awesome work, as always!

I want to get a imac soon, so I hope you don't mind quickly answering a question I have.

Is that a 20 inch imac or 24? Do you love it, or do you wish you had the bigger or smaller size?

Thanks.

By the way this was an awesome tutorial. It must have taken a while. Good work!

Ashwings In reply to holijay [2009-02-09 23:18:16 +0000 UTC]

I think I have a 20 inch one and it fits desks perfectly! I love it! Sure the bigger is better, but the larger one was far less portable for me, and I tend to travel a lot.

Keep up the terrific artwork.

Hmm, for some reason I Haven't added you to my watch list. Consider that recitified. And as for this, I think I might have to use the whole pencil-levels trick instead of inking to give my comics a grittier feel. Never tried it before, so I guess we'll see how it goes!

So you ARE on dA! Great, I'm insta-watching you.

Now, this fannish outburst taken care of...

Thanks for the tutorial, I've learned some things from it.

I assume you do the same with Zombie speech bubbles as with normal ones? If yes... How do you make that jagged lines of zombie-bubbles? Some brush? And what font do you use for them?

Asking out of curiosity

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ashwings In reply to Varmus [2009-02-09 19:27:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh! On a separate layer all I do is slap pn a bunch of black and just make a wordbubble out of it using the eraser tool xD and then I hand draw in the type for the zombies haha. I am thinking that that may be my next tutorial!
