Description
Hey everyone! Have a tutorial! Enjoy! It's pretty big...so it may take a while to load^^ I cover everything...I think. Yes.
It takes me, on average, 6-8 hours to make a strip. Sometimes longer because I can be REALLY picky with certain things, especially with the line-art. So it varies-- also this had a far less complicated background, so that cuts down time considerably!

Awesome tutorial I just read your comic and loved it.
Oh, but as a note, the cartoon-y you has a sticky up vertical hair. I have one in real life.. just a single short tuft of hair that sticks up vertically, whilst the rest is very long and very straight. It's not fun XD Your poor cartoon must suffer.

Wow! The first time I see someone made a comic like that, it's really nice ( and so more complex when I look mine )
Poser7 ein? Not a bad idea.

Thats cool that you also use Poser. It is very handy when you're running into trouble with a pose

That seems like a really efficient way to make comics Unfortunatly, my line art is way too messy (especially with pencil xD).

The one thing that jumped at me is that you use poser like one would use a wooden, posable model.
I'm crap at recalling anatomy from memory and books can only do so much.
I'll have to get a hold of the program. The ability to play around with poses like that and not with a clunky mannequin is like a god send. lol

If you're not willing or not able to shell out the money for Poser. Go to daz3d.com and check DAZ|Studio out- it's free and comes with a couple free base models to boot.

I'm also making a webcomic, and how you make your word balloons is going to be especially helpful to me.

6-8 hours at a time...? I really do admire your focus. xDD
It's always cool to get a peak behind the scenes of a project, and you seem to have a really nice work flow.
Nice solution with putting the panels on Multiply so the lines and colour is visible without interfering with the black areas. Hadn't thought of that, haha. :33

Wow you really are dedicated, what with all that to-ing and fro-ing between programs and computers! This tutorial was really informative, I especially found the part about speech bubbles interesting. That Poser program looks really helpful, I've never seen that before.

OH MY GOD.
"Multiply".
I never knew about that.
Oh my GOD.
That changes EVERYTHING. OH MY GOD.
OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS.
Thank you VERY much for such an informitave tutorial. For someone trying to start a webcomic of his own... this is the most important tool I've found in the last year.
Sorry for me totally nerding out, but I've been saying for literally TWO YEARS that there simply MUST be a way to translate pencil-art to it's own layer. This is a epiphany. Coloring was never an option because of that limitation. This opens up a whole world of options.
Thank you like, a jillion times. Sorry for being a noob. I was just going to play videogames tonight, but now I'm gonna go on a hot steamy date with Photoshop.
Good webcomic you got too. Keep up the great work!

very nice tutorial- may have to give your colouring method a try.
I've found with my comic at the moment my main problem has been backdrops- partly because of the setting so far being mainly set in forest areas.
I do a similar thing for poses as you- although I've been hassling my fiancee into posing for photos which takes far too much organising so I think I may have to invest in a copy of poser at some point...

This is really helpful! ^^ I've been doing a lot of similar things, but your methods are much faster, lol Especially with the lineart. I don't have a tablet so inking in Photoshop takes me almost 12 hours a piece, lol I never thought to bother with levels, lol

It's always cool to see how people go about doing stuff. Photoshop is such a varied tool that no matter what project you're doing, everybody has a slightly different way of going about it.

how long did you spend working on your craft before you came to perfecting your method?
What with using multiple programs and the like, how long before you gradually came to this method?
