I didn't use the traditional comic layout theme basically since I was doodling it down before my final drawing class before spring break...and because I didn't have any paper to test out a layout on...

Anyway, this is Callie Briggs from Swat Kats. I've been brainstorming comic strip ideas for a while now and I was planning on making one of my firsts humorous, but alas, this is not the case.

I commute to uni (45-50 min drive, no biggie) and it's downtown, typical downtowns are crowded with pedestrians, the occasional being homeless. I have 2 ways of getting home and I tend to avoid the one that has this corner where homeless/hungry people tend to congregate.

I have nothing against these kind of people, except the occasional thought of "get a job!" Of course, the recession makes that a little difficult...but sitting out in the cold where NO ONE is going to stop can't be better than walking around applying for jobs...

Anyway, I'm not as heartless as people tend to think of me as...I'm just not stupid. Some people are PAID to beg, not the majority, but there are! Of course, you do have those who seriously have no food and pray something good will come to them.

People that need help I have no problem helping - whenever there are donations (like at Borders, I recently purchased a stuffed bunny for a foster child along with my transaction) and those santa clauses with pots and bells, I give a bit of my change.

It's the people who have nothing to lose and maniacs you have to look out for and this is where I decided to draw this out.

It's downright stupid/ignorant/idiotic to stop and open your door/window to help some complete stranger who could very well stab/maim/shoot/etc you the moment you unlock your doors (not to mention steal your car). I'm a 19-year-old, blonde, blue-eyed girl with a kidnapping alert named after me! (Amber Alert for those of you who are slow)

I'll donate money, toys, vice versa, but I WILL NOT open my door in the middle of the street to help you - I'll leave that to the big, hulky man in the vehicle behind me. This is where I'm getting at with Callie here, especially since she's usually kidnapped/held hostage in her show.

Though I'm sure she's thinking of ways to help them out, that's what a Deputy Mayor is for and unfortunately, things don't happen overnight.
