Description
So if you read one of my journals you'll know that I felt like revealing another character from one of the up coming animatic sets we have.I decided to go with fluttershy because I have actually revealed her animatic in one or two places but not many people would know it anyway.
I get the feeling a few people might think that Rarity would've been a better choice for the Phantom rather than Flutters because of the whole beauty thing but honestly personality wise Fluttershy is just such a better choice.
She's the type of character to hide away behind the curtain, wishing she could be on stage but for one reason or another can't. Phantom is the same except replace lack of confidence with disfigurement.
Rarity on the other hand wants to be the centre of attention.
I think the episode "Filli Vanilli" is a good example why I decided to keep these roles the way they are.
Also I know someone would mention Discord and Flutters but the reason I didn't want to use him as the Phantom is because the sets are for the mane six and Discord is also a pretty involved character to draw. I love the guy but I'd rather limit my needing to draw him as much as possible.

... nowhere? I haven't released/started this animatic yet. It won't come until I've at least uploaded the first of Twi's animatic set which isn't until RD's is finished. I just wanted to spoil one of the animatics.

Most modern depictions of the Phantom of the Opera are with a custom mask that covers only the disfigured half of his face. Any particular reason you've decided to go with a full-face mask (was the mane ruining it for you)?

Technically it was because of the facial structure of Flutters here. A whole mask makes sense and looks good. Half a mask when you actually try to draw it, is one of those objects that is incredibly hard to make look good. Or figure out how it would look from multiple angles. A whole mask fits nicely onto a ponies head. Also I should note that the phantom should or is supposed to have a whole mask, it is only because of the Andrew Lloyd Webber movie and musical that everyone associates the phantom with a half mask. (which was done for performance reasons).
So phantom's supposed to have a whole mask, pop culture has made people believe that he doesn't.

Ah, Interesting.
It seems you have to go back to 1943 before you find an English film depicting the Phantom wearing a full-faced mask (that is if you don't count the two horror remakes). In the 1925 film the mask even covers the phantom's mouth (a bit more understandable considering it was a silent film).
Another thing I've just noticed. You've chosen Fluttershy as the Phantom and you've rendered her as a stallion, yet this is not the first you've had one of the mane six playing a male role. Why this time have you chosen to render the character as a stallion?
Is it because Fluttershy is too feminine and shy? The Phantom is too intimidating? It just visually looks better? You've been drawing a lot of stallions recently and are just having a lot of fun with it? A mix of all of them? Or some other reason?
Also, if you were to now go back and do the previous animatics again, do you think you would choose to render Edmond Dantes/Rainbow Dash or Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde/Pinkie Pie as stallions?

I'm pretty sure it's just my artistic style and preferences changing. Fun fact, Flutter's is the second character to be draw this way actually. In a couple images that I posted for my patrons RD can be seen with a more stallion appearance (as well as in the end image of my contest winners video, her/his clothes were also updated).
I think my main reason for changing Fluttershy into a stallion is because her girl form just isn't intimidating. The Phantom needs to have a certain air about them and while I'm sure I could make Flutters intimidating on her own I wanted to be a bit more convincing than just an intimidating expression. Making her a large stallion achieved what my own personal vision wanted for this.
hmmm, maybe if I could go back and redraw them I would make RD look like a stallion/what she'll look like in 'I Know Those Eyes/This Man Is Dead' but for Pinkie I would give her a smaller nose but still squared to give the impression of a stallion but she'd be like a skinny stallion.

Hmm, I reckon Rarity would have made a better Phantom. Not because of the appearance thing, but because of her personality as well (actually I didn't even think of the beauty bit until you mentioned it). Fluttershy just doesn't do it for me. Personally I'd swap the two roles around, but whatever you do is fine.
Also, failed at managing to avoid spoilers after the first five seconds of deciding to. I'm... not used to this.

ohhhhh my goodness, you guys are geniuses!!! although I adore the discord and fluttershy version of things, THIS is kind of refresing in a sense from the norm!

It looks great! Hey, maybe we could do a mash up 1 page comic, like someone is trying to see your pony of the opera, but they end up at mine and they have to tell them its the other opera house. "yes yes. Paris is littered with opera ghost love sagas." (that could be the punch line)
