So if you read one of my journals you'll know that I felt like revealing another character from one of the up coming animatic sets we have.I decided to go with fluttershy because I have actually revealed her animatic in one or two places but not many people would know it anyway.
I get the feeling a few people might think that Rarity would've been a better choice for the Phantom rather than Flutters because of the whole beauty thing but honestly personality wise Fluttershy is just such a better choice.
She's the type of character to hide away behind the curtain, wishing she could be on stage but for one reason or another can't. Phantom is the same except replace lack of confidence with disfigurement.
Rarity on the other hand wants to be the centre of attention.
I think the episode "Filli Vanilli" is a good example why I decided to keep these roles the way they are.
Also I know someone would mention Discord and Flutters but the reason I didn't want to use him as the Phantom is because the sets are for the mane six and Discord is also a pretty involved character to draw. I love the guy but I'd rather limit my needing to draw him as much as possible.

So are you doing the regular Phantom of the Opera, or Love Never Dies?

First off, love the concepts. Second, while I was fairly certain you would do Fluttershy as the Phantom (I could go on for ages about how perfect this is) I was curious as to who you would cast as Christine. I could see two choices- Rarity, as you ended up picking, mostly for the parallels between the two in terms of emotionality, romantic nature and physical beauty. I could also see an aged-up version of Sweetie Belle. Many people believe her talent will turn out to be singing related, as she has been shown to have a good voice and enjoy classical music. It would also retain the original novel's slightly creepy age difference between the two main characters (in the book, I believe Christine is in her early to mid-twenties, while Erik, the Phantom, is in his fifties).
Of course, Rarity is probably the better choice, being part of the Mane Six, already having a Cutie Mark, and being around the same age as Fluttershy/the Phantom. It would probably be difficult to do a whole set of animatics without showing one of your main characters' Cutie Mark, and the age difference is hardly a key part of the story line. Though, this does make room for Sweetie Belle to cameo as Rarity/Christine's ballarina friend, Meg Giry. Hmm...

I understand the roles - and I like and can't wait! I love Rarity's look, and Fluttershy looks pretty creepy in the "Get out" scene. I personally think Fluttershy's a ggreat choice, I had something more like Sweeney Todd in mind for Rarity...

Even though you explain, I still can't see how you arrived at disfigured... well, the Phantom wears a lot of hats to be honest... starting from a pinnacle of natural beauty(as far as ponies go) afraid of her own shadow.

XD It's kind of a shock to see Flutter in this role! I understand your logic, and it makes sense... but she looks soooo creepy in "Get out" picture you draw... ah!!!

Hmm... Man this is wonderful art, and I always love your style. I also love the idea with using Flutters as the Phantom, it really is a turn that I wouldn't have thought of. But at the same time, I realllllly would've used Rarity instead of Flutters in this role... Rarity just fits so well as the phantom. The fact that she values beauty so much and has a love and no fear of the spotlight... It would make her role as the phantom even more tragic. We all know that Flutters would hide herself away, disfigured or not, so I just felt like there would more of an impact by putting Rarity in the role. At least, that's my humble opinion.

Fluttershy looks like she's gonna be a lot of fun to draw. And those curls on Rarity, super nice! ^^ This is gonna be fun, I've been able to get fully into the Phantom of the Opera. Maybe it's because I've only ever listened to the movie stuff :/

Though I do have to ask, is flutters supposed to look... muscular? Cause it looks more like butterscotch(i think his name was) rather than fluttershy, just curious is all.

Yeah as of late I've started really digging the more Stallion look. I'm still going to say Fluttershy but Butterscotch is probably more accurate for others. Mostly I just really liked the idea of Flutters being this huge guy and imagining them with her timid personality. (Ignoring the fact that PhantomShy doesn't have that personality but its funny to think about).

Fluttershy as the Phantom of the Opera... Gotta say, I did not see that coming. Not one bit. I was expecting her set to be... Actually, I don't know. In terms of musicals, I'm more familiar with the Disney and Animated ones... Well, that and Seussical the Musical.
