Description
A 'repaint' I did using Instructions for TF: CYBERTRON Cybertron Defense Hot Shot I scanned & edited myself from the copy of the instructions that came with the toy.Ok, now we’re getting into the kind of TF stuff I seem to have a thing for, obscure ass “WTF?” stuff that only the most obsessive, hardcore fans would get. Let me introduce you all to Mugen Calibur. Right now you might be thinking “Mugen Calibur? Who the hell is that? I’ve seen every Transformer show on earth and I’ve never seen or heard of him!” or “Mugen Calibur? That name sounds familiar…isn’t that one of those new Japanese store exclusive Mini-Con repaints?”
Mugen Calibur was from a Japanese anime and toyline called Dorvack (or Armored Trooper Dorvack). What does this have to do with Transformers? Easy, Dorvack was the pre-tf series the Roadbuster and Whirl molds came from, before being licensed for the TF line. There was a 3rd transforming mech on the show but he was so weird and awkward that they didn’t even want to include him in with the TF’s. More on him later. Mugen Calibur was the figure that used the Roadbuster mold. That’s who this is. Simply re-did the Roadbuster repaint I did on this mold using Mugen Calibur’s colors. I actually dig it. A nice desert-ish color scheme for that armored transport. I’d buy it.
Incidentally, there is now a “Mugen Calibur” in the TF line. Kinda. As I said, one of the Mini-Con teams they released as store exclusives in Japan, 1 member at a time was called the ‘Calibur Campaign’. One of these Mini-Cons was named Mugen, and he’s a repaint & remold of the Terradive/Shockwave Mini-Con. While his name is Mugen, he is commonly referred to as “Mugen Calibur” (as the other 2 members of the team also have ‘Calibur’ attached to the back of their names sometimes). So Kinda sorta, Mugen Calibur exists in TF mythos. Sorta.
Oh, and I would freaking kill for a chance to see the original Dorvack anime series. Just as I would for the Webdiver series. And Daigunder (the sequel to Webdiver). Which actually showed here in America, but did SO badly, that ABC family, who replay the crap out of any and every crappy cartoon they ever get, never played it ever again. Sigh.

Assey, I have to say right out that this has to be one of the single, most obscure repaint you've ever done. I mean, only those old enough to remember playing with the first couple series of TF toys must know about these guys. That or the real hardcore TF fans that have to know EVERYTHING about the origins of the TF toys.
And it is such a cool repaint, too. I only have a couple pics of the original Dorvack Transformers (more now from those links) but those and the Beetras robots are still all kinds of cool. Especially the Tulcas, for which I'm still looking to get one of the transforming toys. Snowball-in-hell's chance, but still. BTW, excellent backstory in the description. Makes me wish I'd know a little bit more about the Wreckers and their Decepticon counterparts so I could enjoy these repaints even more.

Hey, if there's 2 things I love about tf's, it's obscure ass crap, and the wreckers (who are in themselves obscure). And the Dorvack figures combine them both. Besides they're just kickass molds.
And yes, I wish i could get some more pics on the Beetras figures. Only found a few. Would love to do something with them someday but I just don't have enough materials. Wish I could find subbed episodes of that along Dorvack and the other anime's I mentioned. Be a kickass tidbit of tf history there.
And Yes, i would love to see an actual Tulcas in real life, let alone own one. At this point, the ko quality Convertor version is more atainable, though even that is hard as hell to find. D'ah well. Dorvack models are all over the damn place on eBay though, usually for about $9.99, including Tulcas if you really wanna get one.
Oh, and no problem about confusing the comment about the backstory, heh. glad ya liked it though.

Yah, but the problem is model kits don't transform. Or if they do (I imagine) they look as good because they're all plastic and have no stickers apps and whatnots on them. Not to mention paint apps. Meh. I'll just keep hunting a toy down. Maybe I'll get lucky. Someday.
As for Beetras, maybe I could send you what little I have on my HD. And if you want to test alt-modes, there's more than enough plane molds out there now. Cyb Buzzsaw and the original Cyclonus chopper, too. Yes?

Some of them do, but yeah, you DO have to put them together, paint them, and apply their stickers and all that jazz. Though about buying a mugen calibur and making him into roadbuster, but never got around to it. I'm to lazy for that anyways, heh.
And sure, send over what ya got on beetras one of these days.
But what do you mean by testing alt modes and planes and choppers? Ya lost me there...

Testing the Beetras robots' colors on the various Armada/Energon/Cybertron planes and helicopter molds. Like you usually do when trying to make the best repaint possible.

But the Beetras are bugs? Not Planes & choppers...*is confuseled*

Assey, since when has swaping a beast alt-mode for a vehicular one stopped you from doing a repaint?
(Or are you being thick-headed on purpose to see just how far I'll go before you tell me you're trying to be funny?)

Oh, believe me, it hasn't, hehe.
I guess i was just being thick-headed (a 'tard). For some reason, It just wasn't firing in my head turning some of them into jets. probably cause I haven't really thought about it much, but now that i think of it, Venom would make a nice jet, though the other 3, I might make with ground vehicles...

Hey, whatever works out for ya the best. I mentionned jets because for some reason all of them had flying insect alt-modes in my mind. Oooo-er, do I ever need to think about something else or what?

True, but Chopshop could easilly be a construction-ish vehicle, Barrage a tank, and Ransack..a...er...something or other...hehe.

If the Armada Mini-Con Drill Bit's mold had been made into a deluxe-sized toy, I would have said that one as being the perfect alt-mode for him, since a grasshopper (or is that a locust) usually eats it way thru field after field, destroying every crop in sight. As it is, I believe anything that remotely looks like a demolitions vehicle could do. Maybe CD Scattorshot?

heh, if metroplex wasn't so damn big, he'd be good. OOOOh...menasor! Drill hand, clamp hand, and the legs are kinda folded up like grasshopper/locust legs in vehicle mode. if the blasted thing was just deluxe sized...

So? Go for Menasor, then. Right alt-mode = cool Assey repaint, right?

Heh, now I just hafta wait for it to be released, available for me to buy, and me to have the money to get it. then it's just the easy matter of scanning and cleaning the instructions. no sweat!
Heh, i still haven't even gotten CD Scattorshot & Dark Crumplezone here yet, much less Soundwave and Wingsaber that were just released. It'll be a looong time till i can get a dang menasor...sigh

Never mind the the backstory reference. I looked at Bonaparte Tulcas before and just forgot that the whole 'mentor' backstory wasn't in Mugen Calibur's description.
My bad. *slaps self in face*

I could go for it, if the colors were a little more muted, and done in various shades like camo, like Energon Cyclonus.

But then it wouldn't really be an homage to Dorvack's Mugen Calibur, would it?

Eh. True.
Well, it wouldn't be as direct. It'd be more subtle.
