Description
A 'repaint' I did using Instructions for Armada Sideswipe downloaded from Hasbro's official Transformers website, [link]The next entry into the “Actionmaster Project”, Mainframe. Mainframe probably had one of the most boring and nondescript robot modes of all time. One can only assume he turns into some sort of radio or computer thing, akin to Blaster, but this guy has absolutely no ‘style’ to him at all. With the actionmasters, they didn’t have to worry about alt modes or transformations, only a static robot mode. Given that, they could have gone all out and made the most awesome robot modes imaginable, things they could never do with an actual transforming figure. I think they did that in many ways with a good majority of the figures in the line. And then there’s this guy. He is just so…dull. He looks more like a mindless drone-bot then all the ‘partner’ droids that the actionmasters came with. Even the genera-bots used to fill the backgrounds of the g1 cartoon and comic had this guy beat. Probably had more personality then him too.
So, for being such a lame-o, I’ve decided to punish Mainframe in the most horrible way imaginable. No, he’s not being fed to the Sharkticons, it’s worse. I gave him Armada Sideswipe’s body. Oh the horror. In all actuality, with Mainframe’s very boxy and boring body, he fits the Sideswipe mold to a “T”, much because it is very boxy and square and boring. While the toy still sucks, and shall until the ends of time, it DOES make for a good Mainframe repaint. …I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing though… If anything, I think it’s pretty sweet seeing Sideswipe’s pretty vehicle mode in these new colors. Enough of Sideswipe’s blue and Oil Slick’s…slightly purpler blue.
His Minicon is Push-Button, named after his AM partner. I think it fits enough to be convincing. You have to push a button to open the compartment on Mainframe to hide or reveal Push-Button, and according to the instructions, you’re supposed to use him to roll down his vehicle mode roof, down the windshield, and push the button that extends the front of his car mode. At which point, he continued rolling across his hood, (amazing considering the now huge gap in it) and then it rolls off the front of the vehicle hood and drives off to victory. That or gets creamed by the front end of the speeding car, and mangled under it’s wheels. Either way works for me. Stupid nonsensical instructions. You’d think SOMEONE there at the company that makes the toy, would be able to explain a toys feature accurately in the instructions. D’ah well. Oh yeah…we were talking about Push-Button, right? Well, to get a feel for how the actual G1 versions of these characters were, Mainframe was so dull, that his little buddy didn’t even want to be partnered with him anymore. Heh, loser. I’ve got a feeling this trend with continue with their new versions. I bet the ever-popular Rad manages to steal Mainfram’s Minicon away from him, hehe.
Oh, and I’m sorry for posting both Mainframe, and another Sideswipe repaint. I know that is generally unforgivable, but I’ve got a really good repaint lined up tomorrow for my next entry into the Actionmaster Project, so hopefully that’ll make up for it, heh.

Assey, I don't think your punishment worked... He actually looks nice. Boxy like the original character and the colors all fit. Damn! I really wanted to see this character punished correctly.
Oh, well...
The vehicle mode's a bit too much red for my tastes, but I'd think it's still nice that it's such a radical color change. Makes him more unique that way (Even if the character's still bland.).

the only thing he's missing is a G1 styled head (and bendable knees while i'm on the subject).

Yeah, I played with adding some blue to the V mode (spoiler and front bumper) but it just did NOT mesh well with the red in vehicle mode. Oh well. And Despite what you say, I think having Sideswipe's body would be a hellish punishment for ANY Tf. They'd probably prefer "the pit" to that, heh. Glad ya like it though, and agree that it's a good fit for Mainframe.
