Sure, I'm a little behind the times, what with all this beautiful Avengers-related art gracing the pages of deviantART. [In fact, I've been avoiding looking at all the great art, just so I don't get jealous and think "I should have done that!]BUT. I'm obsessed; seriously, I am.
Before I saw the Avengers (and then Thor) I did not understand the Loki/Hiddles phenomenon.
Well, color me converted. The entire cast of that movie rocked, but Tom Hiddleston brought something deep and sympathetic and beautiful to this character. As a "villain," especially in Thor, he was very nuanced. And Hiddleston's performance was glorious.
I had so much fun doing this piece, which was the most poignant moment of Thor for me. I think I really managed to push myself on this piece, and I feel it's certainly my best so far. Spread the Loki/Avengers love!!

First of all, this is gorgeous. I actually cosplay as Thor, so this rips my huge Asgardian heart right out of my chest.
I have a friend who is like you, refusing to get involved in the whole Avengers thing. I think she is trying to be different, because pretty much all the rest of her friends are like "YAY AVENGERS RAWR". But...now that you have seen it, you have seen the LIGHT! *cue heavenly chorus*
I actually saw Thor about 6 months before Avengers. Not because I had the slightest clue that they were even MAKING Avengers, but because I had heard it was good. It knocked my socks off, to say the least. At the time, I was like "Omg, Loki is such a douche!" he was portrayed in such a way that was so deep, meaningful and made you like him...but he was also the bad guy, so you HAD to hate him (didn't you...?). When I went and saw Avengers for the first time, I loathed him a tad less because he was such an AWESOME villain that he grew on me more. But at the same time I was like "CREEPY". XD Conflicted emotions ftw!
Then I had a friend shove Tom's adorable, goofyness in my face. Ever since that point (now having seen Avengers a second time...and wanting to for a third while it is still in theaters), I am totally obsessed. For so many reasons, but more than anything else that Tom Hiddleston is SUCH a freaking sweetheart! He's so down-to-earth dorky, funny, sentimental, real...it's just...I don't think I could possibly EVER run out of enough adjectives to describe him! XD

I will confess, I did really want to see the Avengers but I went in mostly for Tony Stark/Iron Man. But it's hard to come out of that movie not completely obsessed with every single character.
Conflicted emotions indeed--I think everyone has sympathy for him, but he plays such a fantastic villain. There's just something...very dark there that seems to have implanted post-Thor.
I can't wait to see his return in the next movies (and he better freaking come back).

I totally agree. I am in all actuality a fan of really EVERY single one of the Avengers (pecking order goes...Thor, Cap, Tony, Bruce, then Hawkeye...I don't consider Loki on this list, but him and Thor are pretty much tied at the top). All the actors did an AMAZING job portraying these comic book superheroes, that myself personally grew up on. So, for me, seeing these fictional characters come to life has been an amazing experience.
Oh, most definitely. In Thor, he still had this naivety about him. The world for him was still very new, very young, and finding out the truth about his past REALLY brought out that darker side. One of the things that I have seen many people, both Tom and fans as well, discuss is all the dark things that Loki has seen while in the black abyss between the time of Thor and Avengers. It truly changed him, made him harder and darker. All these aspects contribute to him being an insanely good villain.
He is definitely set for Thor 2, they start shooting in the fall (I think November?). In this one, Loki will NOT be the villain, but he will most certainly appear. And I am pretty sure that they will be making an Avengers 2, but not sure whether Loki will appear again or not :3

I really wish they could do a film on that darker limbo period between Thor and Avengers--it would be so enlightening! Of course, a whole lot of "soul-searching" would not be as action-packed, but I'd definitely go see it.
Huzzah for Thor 2! I hope they give him a good-sized role, it would be a shame to waste such a fantastic character

Such a sad part. My sister cried. I didn't like Loki at all at first, but once I watched Thor after the Avengers, he made so much more sense and is now one of my favorite characters. Hiddles is amazing.

I very nearly grumbled about people posting screenshots as actual art before I did a double take and realized it was a painting done off a screenshot. So. Amazingly good job on the details. You had me fooled.
And I was the same way; totally didn't get the Loki/Hiddles phenomenon until I watched to movies. At which point I converted and understood completely. xD

Hiddleston as Loki just kind of gets everyone. Because he's amazing. I can't even.

It really was a heartwrenching moment (although I think I missed out on part of that because I knew he came back in Avengers...) But still, he's just so impressive. I'm pretty sure Hiddles/Loki has more fans than Thor.

Well if its from the Avengers I didn't see that one. Iv only seen Thor and after I looked a the back ground and then at the face it reminded me of the scene when he was flung into space.
