Description Mysterious Galactic Legends" by Michael C. Turner

Acrylic on stretched canvas using traditional bristle brush techniques ~ 30"X 40"

A neophyte galaxy, viewed nearly edge-on, from the misty mouth of a lunar cavern creates (with a bit of imagination) an illusion of fire jetting from the open mouth of a dragon. Cave formations, silhouetted against the illuminated cavern opening and the galactic background seem like cloaked figures paying homage to a galactic oracle as another satellite moon transits the plane of the galaxy just above and to the left of an Earth like-planet. This scene depicts one of myriad mysterious galactic vistas which might possibly stimulate legends of galactic proportions for sentient beings witnessing such galactic phenomena across the universe.

(Please see the companion piece [link] "Neophytes Of The Galactic Oracle." The views are light years apart however; you shall notice that the dragon's fiery breath, the galaxy seen here, is the same one as in "Neophytes of the Galactic Oracle. I have moved the view many light years closer in space to the galaxy.)

("Mysterious Galactic Legends" is #4 in my Christmas in the Stars limited edition card series. [link] Each year I select one of my paintings to use on the cover of my "Christmas in the Stars" Christmas Card series which I began in 1991. I realize that everyone may not appreciate space art in this context however, I trust you shall still enjoy the paintings for what they depict scientifically if not spiritually . . . )

I did have a question though; are your paintings digital art, or regular paintings (i.e. oils, acrylics, watercolor etc)?

Most of my paintings are created using acrylic and bristle brush on stretched cloth canvas. I also create some digitial art. Even with my digital art, I use only the basic paint programs(no computer generatedimages)to simulate traditional art techniques. "Mysterious Galactic Legends" was created using traditional art materials and techniques (acrylic/bristle brushes on stretched canvas). I appreciate your interest in my art and thank you for your kind comments.

Wow! I thought they were acrylics, but I wasn't sure.

I'm into acrylic paintings myself, however they're non-objective paintings (like the one in my avatar).

Maybe the non-objective would go under Surreal on here? Not sure, however I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of your artwork.

Oh, silly me. I can't believe I forgot to mention Flash Gordon. All that to say, it's amazing to see something like this created with traditional media. I would think outer space would be a tough subject to tackle, but you have managed beautifully. You should see about teaming up with a sci-fi writer - your work has a great sort of illustrative quality to it.

Yes, this is indeed traditional acrylic on stretched cloth canvas painting using bristle brush techniques. I simply use various size bristle brushes with artist acrylic paints (tubes and or bottles) and paint the "Visions" that are inside my mind and soul . . .
