Dear Sir,
Greetings from India.
I am 38, want to learn Digital Portrait Paintings. I came across various paintings you made using mesh tool. I am very much impressed. I want to learn the technique. But I don't know how to create meshes. secondly how much time it takes to you to complete one hyperrealistic painting? Is there any way automatic way of applying colours to meshes or you have to do the same manually?
Your guidance is very valuable for me.
Please reply and help me.

Totally awesome! How did you get to export the "wireframe" image from Illustrator?

I wish there was an easy way to do it. I take several screen grabs of the file and sew them together in photoshop.

WOW!!! That's gotta suck, but it does show off all the hard work, especially now that I know you have to go through that also. Good job though.

No filters. A lot of really complex meshes.

One technique I've figured out recently is that you can 'Mesh a Mesh', which has helped me created complex meshes more quickly (and tidy) than I've been able to in the past.
Make a rectangle
Select OBJECT -> Create Gradient Mesh
---Rows 50 & Columns 50
Select OBJECT -> ENVELOPE DISTORT -> Make With Mesh
---Rows 2 & Columns 2
You can now reshape (and even add new envelope shape points) the mesh without having to worry about the color points!
When you want to bring the Gradient Mesh back, just expand the image

A lot of patience and a bit of insomnia.
