That is awesome!

Just asking, is the steampunk hand heavy?

aternox In reply to Lorikacid [2009-01-24 20:35:33 +0000 UTC]

ish? i'm fairly strong so it's hard to gage. I'd say it's probably about 5 lbs.

THIS IS SO COOL. Seeing this made my day. I like steampunk things... and nothing speaks steampunk better than this. The more i watch those small clips ... the more i wish i could have one of my own... or two for that matter. Am I right in that the thumb can only bend the one direction? It be even better if it could move all directions like good ol' regular thumbs can.

ya, only one for now. I'm trying to figure out how to make the thumb and fingers as articulate as they are in reality.

I'm just speechlesss. Honest to god speechless. That is the greatest things I've seen this year (and I saw a guy on a Jetpack).

Don't suppose you could post a picture of the back of the hand. Am trying to figure out how you got the fingures to relax back. I'm guessing you have a spring et-up of some sort.

check the instructions that were linked below the picture

aternox In reply to koomber1664 [2008-12-21 19:06:22 +0000 UTC]

ya there's a small spring at each "knuckle" the back is armored though, so you cant really see them unless the fingers are bent.

Amazing idea and it appears to be a relatively simpel construction, but I'm can't really see how you make the thumb move. Would you mind explaining how that works?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aternox In reply to CaptainThomas [2008-12-10 21:56:33 +0000 UTC]

ya no probs. it's exactly the same as the fingers to the palm, but then there's another eyehook to the left of my thumb. so the string goes from my thumb to the left then up to the palm and then along the hands thumb. so as i bring my thumb across my palm it reacts similar.

CaptainThomas In reply to aternox [2008-12-10 22:11:09 +0000 UTC]

ah, ok, that makes sense
It's still an amazing construction and it gives me all sorts of ideas for some wicked looking monster costumes
