I did saw the scene with the atomic bomb, and I was shocked by this scene, and I think they're very courageous to show it this way, I bet even if it was rated 18 and older, it would still be shocking, even for the 'never-shocked' kind of person. But maybe it was neccesary to show in a so graphic way, or else it would had been 'a typical war bombing' scene.
What do you think about it?

Ya i was pretty shocked to see a cute cartoon with such graphic scenes, but you can't really expect any less from the author who was simply expressing exactly what he had witnessed.

I just saw the first movie, it was beautiful, yet as sad as ever. I wished Tomoko had remained alive, but what do you want, it's rare a newbron survives an atomic bomb.
One thing that was bothering me during the movie was the fact the voice of Gen wasn't really emotion. But still, very good movie.
Also, do anyone knows the name of the song that plays during the credit of this movie?

I just watched the bombing scean on youtube. HOLY SHIT.
I'm a horror fan so I'm used to seeing some pretty messed up stuff, but seeing people, women and children melting away into burned skeletons really shocked me. That's what I've always loved about Japan. For want of a better phrase they really do have balls. None of the, "children will be fine" or "there's gonna be a happy ending." stuff. Nothing western has even come close to portraying anything so horrifically realistic.

Agreed. Even if it's a fantasy fiction like Soul Eater or Berserk, they have Guts (lol bad pun) to show brutality and horror. Bonus points for Berserk being set in the Middle Ages where most of the guys were douches to say the least and even the main character is pretty bloodthirsty.
And yeah, the bombing scene was a real punch to the adrenal glands (which are in the kidneys for added irony). "HOLY SHIT." indeed.

P.S.S- The manga is even worse. I was looking for a review of this when one of the images caught my eye on the webpage and showed a little 10 year old girl saying,"Mommy, I can't see..." And the panel WAS SHOWING GLASS PIECES STUCK IN. THE . EYES. Cue shuddering.

It's not so much the killing thing that gets me. Don't get me wrong I'mm not gonna condone someone killing someone for no reason, but when you're in a war, people die. It sucks but that's what war is. It's method of this that gets me. Bombing is one thing but a nuke? That is not a wepon that should actualy be used.

I only have and read three of the ten books. They are amazing. I could literally feel Gen's desperation throughout the entire parts of the series I read. People who haven't read the books or seen the movie might not know the truth behind this illustration, so I encourage anyone out there to read it.
