Species: River Dolphin Pokémon
Ability: Dazzle/Cute Charm/ (Hidden: Telepathy)

Signature move: Heartbreak
Type: Fairy
Category: Special
Power: 65
Accuracy: 100%
PP:10
Notes: If hit by this move, there is a 30% chance that the opponent Pokémon will become infatuated if it is of the opposite gender to the attacking Pokémon.

Height: 1,65m (5'41")
Weight: 63 kg (138,9 lbs)

Entry:
Using mysterious powers, it can disguise itself as a human, and occasionally walks among them. While it tries to mimic human behavior the best it can, it is eventually
found out because of it’s unhuman quirks. It is said that those that lay eyes upon it’s vivid pink skin are instantly enamored by it, and fall in love. Many are the tales
of young women fooled by it’s disguise and then entranced by its true form, taken to its lair to never be seen again.

-Manipup -> Lv. up with Prism Scale at Night -> Mermarize-

Potential Moveset:
Heartbreak
Mud Bomb
Hydro Pump
Psyshock

A pink river dolphin fakemon was simply a must for the Tupama region, heck, I even considered making it the water starter, and talking with my pal SkarmorySilver about his own river dolphin fakemon (Which you can check here and here , they're pretty neat) made me want to try my hand at my own. Not super happy with the result, but I hope you guys still like it.

For those curious about the design, and unfamiliar with their legends, to the people in the amazon the pink river dolphin ("boto" or "boto cor de rosa" as it's more commonly called) it's actually a magical creature called an Encantado ("Enchanted one"), with the power to assume human form at night, save for it's blow-hole at the top of its head, which it can't get rid of. In the form of handsome and well dressed young man wearing a hat (to cover it's blowhole) they go to parties to seduce human girls into making love with them, impregnating them, and after that, return to their underwater kingdom. For all of this, the boto is usually the one blamed for children whose father's are unknown. The wikipedia page for them also goes more in detail about other random legends and details, but I sincerely have never heard them before myself, so huh.... It must be true, I guess, go check that out with you're interested.

Well, hope you all liked it, and see you guys next time!

Wonder what it does with them in its lair though...... maybe they practice synchronized swimming!

Giving the fact that dolphins actually rape people, I think we all know what it does to it's victim. Plus it's part fairy, fairies in history have been quite....morally dubious creatures.

As much as I like to paint it as creepy, it probably just keeps them at its lair while bringing them food, presents and caring good care of them. So, maybe it's not all that bad...?

This looks super creepy but also incredibly awesome. Excellent work adapting the legends about them into this design, always thought it would be quite the challenge.

Thanks! Glad you liked it!
It was just a matter of ommiting the more... "Controversial" details of the legends, the rest was pretty straightforward actually!
I had to be human-like and to be somewhat "charming" (that's hugely debatable), but still slighty creepy and implicit on what it
actually does.

I imagine it to have a voice of like, you know how men from the 50's used to speak? That's how I imagine its speech.

Hello baby, do you always comes to this riverbend?
An image I have in my head since I started drawing it is of it disguised as a handsome man trying to woo a girl, and then it starts making random awkward dolphin sounds:

This Pokémon would be interesting to see in an anime episode.

It certainly could lead to some funny hijinks, kidnapping one of Ash's companions or such. An episode featuring Guaraneye and Stalklops could also be potentialy funny... and somewhat creepy.

Continuing from the conversation we had on Srilankara's page, I'm now looking at this design finally and WOW! I have to say that the humanoid route really was the best choice, and makes so much sense given the lore, though major kudos must be given for not making it look like a straight-up furry a la Lopunny or Lucario! (then again of course I'm sure people will want to thirst after him anyway, and this time the mythical inspiration gives them a valid excuse. XD) I wonder now if this line is intended to be male only and if so, will there be a female counterpart based on some other animal or mythical creature? It'd be interesting if we got version-exclusive genders like Braviary and Mandibuzz, though whatever approach you come up with is fine by me. (Also I'm totally calling that the pre-evo will look more like the actual dolphin the way Phindus does compared to Srilankara. )

I'm ashamed to confess that I was very slightly disappointed that the standard abilities weren't Torrent, especially given that the evolution stage looks like it's three stages, but I'm not the one responsible for this design and I think it would indeed be better if this were a regular family rather than the starter. I agree that making the anaconda a pseudo-legendary rather than a starter would be a nice idea but at the same time, we already have so many draconic or otherwise reptilian pseudos and I'm planning for both of my own to be non-reptilian (with two three-stage Dragon-types earlier in the region to compensate). Water/Dark would be a good compromise for the pseudo, a dragon that actually isn't a Dragon-type. And as for the starter, I just thought of another inspiration, a guinea pig that becomes a capybara and then a Josephoartigasia, the largest rodent in Earth's history and also from South America. I think you could apply whatever theme you may choose for your starters better to this than the anaconda, come to think of it. At the end of the day, though, your designs are based on your decisions first and foremost, and I'm sure you'll think of something great for your starters, perhaps even better than my suggestions.

All in all, great work with this design, looking forward to the pre-evos, and thank you for tagging me!

Glad you liked, and you're welcome!
The internet always finds a way to lewd things in the end, can't fight against that! XD
But no, Mermarize isn't male only, that got confusing judging by people's reactions... There are indeed female Mermarizes, and they target men, just as there also are female encantados who do so, although, they're largely unheard of. Seems I got a bit too much focused on the male aspects of the legend there. But a female counterpart is indeed a valid idea! I don't really have any idea for what It would look like... Maybe something based on the Iara ?... But then again I guess that would fall too much into Milotic territory, and if I really had to make a fakemon out of her, I would prefer to make it a legendary.
And yes, it's pre-evolution will be more dolphin-like like phindus (I'm thinking something quite similar to Popplio actually), and will be gray colored instead, like real baby pink river dolphins. Not a lot of ideas for its design though... Maybe it uses it's cuteness to befriend humans to receive more food? A "MANIPUP" PERHAPS?!
But Torrent on anything but a starter would be weird, what was considered actually was Swift Swim instead of Dazzle, and a new ability that made possible to infatuate the opponent regardless of the pokemon's gender... But neither would be very useful for it, so they got discarted. But it's only going to have two stages, the middle ??? it's the evolution method.
Well, the anaconda dragon it's still an early idea, so, it could change... Some guy (who is also doing a brazil-themed region) kinda of already beat me to it on this idea ... Don't know to make it much different from that...
And I quite like the capybara idea! There was already going to be a capybara pokémon, but it's pre-evo was going to be based on the agouti, which are quite common around here, but I do like the guinea pig and Josephoartigasia idea a lot, so I'll definitely consider it! I was planning on making it a common water/grass pokémon though, not sure I can see it as a starter... Maybe as the route 1 rodent? Maybe I can make the agouti into my pikaclone? Who knows. What I was considering for the water starter was a manatee (of which there is going to be a fakemon of, starter or not), but I wasn't sure people would like it, seems a bit too derpy and unappealing for a starter. I'm also enamorated by the idea of a red macaw fire starter, starting similar to rowlet, but ending up like Dynablade from the Kirby series. But that would depend on the theming of the starters of course, and I don't think another Fire/Flying starter would be very nice...

Looking at the Iara, it definitely sounds like one of the "cute" legendaries like Mew, Celebi, etc. They're immortal, supposedly responsible for human disappearances, and linked to another more monstrous creature known as Ipupiara which could make for an interesting "unbound" form a la Hoopa. I think you could get it to work as a legendary. Interesting fact about the encantandos, as well, I'll try to remember that for if and when I get a hold of the concept myself soon! And I look forward to seeing the pre-evo.

For your anaconda dragon, I think you can connect it to yet another South American mythical monster, the Yacumama (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yacumama ) which is often described as being snakelike, the mother of all creatures in the water, and able to suck up anything within 100 paces of it. Not that much to work from but maybe you could tie in aspects of other mythical water serpents and possibly myths of such creatures trying to swallow the moon (I was thinking of Apep from Egyptian lore, but I think there's one in South America that does the same thing, though I forget the name.)

And as for the starters, I'll PM you shortly so we don't hog the comments.

Iara is stock figure here at this point, some friends indeed already requested a fakemon based on her, so something of a mermaid-like pokemon (be it a regional form or new fakemon) is going to appear sometime in some form.
But the anaconda line is actually based on something already, the final form is supposed on be a reference to the Boiúna , another folklorical figure. The wikipedia page description is kinda vague about it, but I've illustrated and explained it before right here:[link] . Due to the similarities to the Boiúna to the Yacumama (and some other very similar legends of the region), I'm pretty sure they're the same being or at least are related in some way. So yeah, that is indeed the route I'm planning to take!

All right, see you in the notes!

Squeezing all I can in one single design, heck yeah.

A boto design. That's genius. We need a dolphin Pokemon and with this, we get some Brazilian folklore along with it!

It really is creepy, isn't it? I omited the sexual part of  the legend for obvious reasons, but it still leaves us basically with a pokémon prone to kidnapping and that can disguise itself as anyone you know...

I would say female Mermarizes would still target humans, only males of course. I just discovered today that female encantados are actually a thing, according to wikipedia:
"Similarly, the female becomes a beautiful, well - dressed, wealthy - looking and young woman. She goes to the house of a married man, places him under a spell to keep him quiet, and takes him to a thatched hut and visits him every year on the same night she seduced him. On the 7th night of visiting, she changes the man into a female - baby or male, and soon transfers it into his own wife's womb. The mythology is said to be the cycle of a baby."
....Gross and disturbing, yikes.
This is the "other random legends and details, but I sincerely have never heard them before myself" part I talked about, never heard this one before...
But...Yeah, no one is safe, everyone, run away to the mountains!
