Entry:

Its rocky shell resembles a soccer ball when curled up, and is composed of very sturdy stone fragments that can be somewhat controlled. Tatuaces can be found all around Tupama, and depending on the type of soil present in their diets, some of it’s body parts changes color, fittingly called “uniforms” by researchers. When groups with different uniform colors meet in the wild, they engage in a friendly game not unlike human soccer.

-Armaballo  -> Lv.26 -> Tatuace-

Potential Moveset:
Rollout
Hi Jump Kick
Trick Shot
Iron Defense

Based on the Giant Armadillo , also known as the Tatuaçu, and on a modern soccer ball.
Finally I'm revisiting Armaballo's evolution, I've been trying to come up with it's design since last August. So glad it's finally over...
My first idea was to go for something like Golem, but it always ended up looking way too similar to it, so I based it a bit more on Chesnaught instead.
That shell has been the bane of my existence for months, I'll tell you.

Just like with Kalos and Alola, Tupama is a big region, so big, in fact, that it is actually divided into five different sub-regions, sharing a single league, and each region
gets a variation of Tatuace for itself. More details on that in future, when I finally get my act together to properly introduce the Tupama region.

Well, hope you all liked it, and see you guys next time!

Are the color variations based on specific football teams? I wouldn't have any idea.

They're more generally based around the colors of the biomes they live in. Grasslands, forests, tundras...
...The purple one is for a more urban environment, I had no idead what color to use and this was the result.

Oh, I see. That makes sense.
Maybe it could be an event-only variation, ala Spiky-eared Pichu? They could have a version for all the Big Twelve!
...even though they'd probably have to organize some sort of branding deal with all of them. And then I wouldn't be able to appreciate it because I had to look up the name "Big Twelve" on google. I'd still find it neat regardless. Must be the patriotism talking.

An event only variation definitely could happen! And well, I could sneak it in and modify the colors a bit so that it isn't identical, but it's still recognizable for those in the know, could be fun indeed.
If it were a game, maybe I could introduce some gimmick where you can change its colors in a style similar to Furfrou and tie that in with some soccer minigame.
Definitely not a priority for now, but could be fun.

I think I might like that latter idea better. Would be fun to pit your Tatuaces against each other.
I mean, you don't have to do it if you don't want to. But I'm happy to think something I said might have stirred up your creative juices.

I would have pictured the Shiny to be a black and white exterior like a soccer ball.

..I'm not sure why I didn't do that, it really seems like the obvious choice, doesn't it?
I think it was because I didn't want it to look too much different from Armaballo's shiny form?... But that sounds silly and a strange thing to prioritize.
I could change it now... But then again, there's five of them, and I'm just too lazy to go back to it

i think Skill Link would be a better ability given it's signature is a multi-hit move

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtmaFlare In reply to deviantfan16 [2017-07-31 02:37:14 +0000 UTC]

The original idea was indeed for it to have Skill Link instead of Quick Feet as it's HA once it evolved, but I was a bit concerned about it become a bit too powerful, so I nerfed it.
Plus, I don't really plan the complete moveset for my fakemons, so I don't know if it would have access to another move beyond Trick Shot to make use of Skill Link, it would be a bit silly to use it just for that alone.

deviantfan16 In reply to AtmaFlare [2017-07-31 09:54:27 +0000 UTC]

well it has bad accuracy so maybe make it so if it misses it'll reset its power

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtmaFlare In reply to deviantfan16 [2017-08-03 00:41:02 +0000 UTC]

But Skill Link guarantees it to hit 5 times, it wouldn't even be able to reset anything...
And it would be a bit strange to make it part of the move's effect only in case the user has Skill Link as a ability...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deviantfan16 In reply to AtmaFlare [2017-08-03 00:46:10 +0000 UTC]

no i think it just maxes out the number of hits, not guarantee perfect accuracy. maybe weaken it with each successive attack instead of increase but have it start high

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtmaFlare In reply to deviantfan16 [2017-08-03 01:58:18 +0000 UTC]

It does not guarantee perfect accuracy, but that is only for the first hit, no? As far as I knew if you hit the first strike you were going to hit all 5 of them, but if you miss the first one, you miss all of them.
But I think I'll leave it as is, regardless of how Skill Link works and Quick Feet being a shitty ability and all that. It still fits thematically...
...But people have asked me for a mega evolution for Tatuace, so maybe Skill Link still could be used somehow in the future, we'll see!
Thanks a bunch for the suggestion anyway!

the best i could say is possibly for a mega or just it's hidden ability and switch quick feet to another.
also i think it'd work that, the more hits you get, the lower your chances of hitting get

Trick shot can do up to 225 damage without stab?!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtmaFlare In reply to CrimsonKnight19 [2017-05-14 01:23:53 +0000 UTC]

....Yeah, I mean, you have to be extremely lucky to pull that off, and Tatuace's attack isn't all that high to begin with...
....But it's still a bit exaggerated, isn't it? I'll edit it then, from now on, each time it hits the Trick Shot's accuracy is reduced by 5%.

If this thing could mega evolve I bet it would have some spikes on it and have bigger armor, all around an awesome concept

Glad you liked it!
I would love to make a mega evolution for it, but I'm not sure how to improve the design from here...
Keeping the soccer/football theme would be a priority though, so maybe armor and spikes would not fit it very much.

I was going to put it in the description, but at the time I thought it sounded a bit too ridiculous to actually put it in.
But well, I would imagine they also use Geodudes and Roggenrolas if no Armaballos are around... ¬w¬

pffft! XD Nice. I mean so long as the Armaballo are having fun with the others it shouldn't be too big of an issue. >w> Although I don't think the Geodude or Roggenrola would have the same amount of fun.

Fitting how the animal that curls up into a ball ends up being themed on an actual ballgame.

The theme of this line reminds me of that armadillo being used in the ball sport in The Road to El Dorado, which is a pretty good movie and was part of my childhood. Nice touch with the uniforms being a thing as well, we need more variant Pokemon designs and this is a pretty good way of hinting at how this region is organized. I kinda wish the shell had a paler main area and darker studs so the soccer ball theme could be denoted more clearly, but shiny already kinda has that, so... I guess it works?

Also, I never noticed the Rock/Fighting type combo until the second time looking at the pic. I have to say, this guy does the Fighting-type ball sport theme even better than Passimian does, which is saying quite a lot because the latter's just a lemur with a hat and a berry to throw around. Major props for a solid design and an interesting theme!

BTW, it's called "soccer" only in the U.S., I think. The term in other countries is "football", I believe, while the football in the States is called "American football" elsewhere.

AtmaFlare In reply to SkarmorySilver [2017-04-05 21:27:37 +0000 UTC]

How incredibly convenient for the theming, right? I say it all the time, sometimes these fakemons almost pratically do themselves.
It wasn't originally an inspiration, but people did remind me of Road to El Dorado when I posted Armaballo months ago. I really love that movie too!
Maybe that scene got stuck in my subconscious? ....I much preffer to believe so than having coming to terms that it was probably that very lame mascot from the last world cup.
The colors are so dark because I just copied them from Armaballo itself, I was really afraid people would find the idea stupid back in the day, so I tried to emphatize more the fact that it's shell just was a rock that resembled a ball. Of course these colors fit Armaballo best because it was based on a old leather ball, I admit I should have thought a bit better about Tatuace's color pallet... My bad.
And glad you liked ! I do like Passimian a lot, but yeah, it could have a more elaborated design than a lemur with a hat and a berry, I hope in the future when we have another case like it they achieve a better middle ground with the design. Not too unnatural, not too basic... I'M ALSO LOOKING AT YOU, TOUCANNON.
Yes, I know, In portuguese we do say "futebol" kinda like the rest of the world, but if you ask anyone how to say it in english, they'll surely say soccer because of movies and games and all that. But since the english version of the pokemon games it's american english, since japan do say soccer (the "Striker" class from GEN V is called "Soccer Player" japanese), and since most of the views I receive are from the USA... Let's keep it as soccer for simplicity sake.
...I mean, if I AM obliged to put the measurements in feet and pounds everytime I make a post....

But yeah, for a couple of days there was an armadillo. XDDD

huh. in my rural town, if an armadillo comes inside your house the whole town will turn it into a shooting contest (actually for any wild animal)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtmaFlare In reply to TheRabbitWhoHovers [2017-04-05 21:38:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, they wouldn't shoot it because pratically no one carries a gun around here, but they would capture it for sure, and that was kinda what happened.
It didn't actually appear. I was travelling to my gramma's house with my family, and as a small and impressionable child I threw a tantrum because
I had heard that armadillos lived around that area and I really wanted to see one. So my father conveniently got in touch with a group of teenagers in the area
who had recently captured an armadillo they found in the wild. He paid them to leave the armadillo in the house for a couple days for me to see it.
Of course I was very small and didn't realize the guys were poachers, and apparently after the poor thing was returned they sold it for someone to cook it... Yeah...
...And now this curious story just turned out sad and morbid, sorry about that.
