Description
A USAF F-4 Phantom makes a pass with the arresting hook down. A lot of Air Force fighters have hooks, but none are as robust as the one on the Phantom.Nellis AFB. Aviation Nation, 2007.

Thanks. I'm just pleased any of these turned out, even a little. That was the latest I'd ever been at an airshow. It was the 60th of the USAF, and they were flying until about 6:00pm. It was the first airshow I'd ever been to that the Thunderbirds were not the closing act.

No there isn't. Did you know the hook alone weighs 1,000 lbs?

They have a Phantom (final prototype) at the museum I used to volunteer at. I got that little statistic from someone who flew Phantoms during the Vietnam War.
