Description Note: My design for the Haydonite Awareness in my Robotech AU series, "Robotech Odyssey," was heavily inspired by the design of Deus ex Machina, the collective consciousness and supreme leader of Nation 01 (AKA the Machines) in the original Matrix trilogy.

Name: The Awareness (認識, Ninshiki)

Profile:
  • Classification: Artificial Intelligence
  • Activation Date: Exact date unknown, approximately 400,000 Earth years ago
  • Gender: Masculine programming

    • Haydon (creator)

  • Homeworld: Haydon IV
  • Affiliation:
    • Sentinels Confederation (formerly)

    • Haydonites

Little is known about the origins of the Haydonite Awareness and the entirety of the Haydonite race. The information that can be gathered from what remains of their early history suggests that approximately 400,000 years ago, the Haydonites originated as a new race of highly-advanced cybernetic humanoids who were created on the mechanical world of Haydon IV in the Seren Globular Cluster of the Large Magellanic Cloud. According to Haydonite folklore, it was believed that Haydon IV was created by a pantheon of god-like entities known simply as the Viator, who were led by an enigmatic being named Haydon, who view the Haydonites viewed as creator-gods. Before the Viator's departure from the planet, their leader Haydon had created an advanced artificial intelligence only known as "The Awareness" to serve as the planet's central computing core.

Since then, under the guidance and watchful presence of the Awareness, the Haydonites emerged as a prosperous civilization, a planet-wide theocracy that worshiped and revered Haydon and the Viator as gods. They utilized their superior intelligence and efficiency to make great leaps forward in society. In order to defend themselves from hostile powers, the Haydonites develop what would become known in the modern day as "Shadow Technology," powerful zero-point energy weapon systems powered by the vacuum energy source "Quicksilver." The Haydonites would then enter a space age as exploration vessels were sent across the Local Galactic Group with the goal of make contact with other alien races to forge possible alliances with in the near future. One day, one of these ships discovered an unknown planet in the Triangulum Galaxy and makes first contact with its native inhabitants, a race of protoplasmic insectoids known as the Invid. Through their close observations of the species, the Haydonites discover that the Invid are symbiotic palynivores that feast on a mysterious substance dubbed "Protoculture," a source of vacuum energy that can only be produced by a plant native to the Invid Cradleworld called the Flower of Life.

After studying samples of the Invid Flower of Life, the Awareness and the Haydonites are shocked to discover that Protoculture somewhere has much higher power yield than the Quicksilver energy that fuels their Shadow Technology could ever produce. This new discovery led Haydon IV being thrown into chaos as the Haydonites became increasingly paranoid of the power of Protoculture, fearing the possibility that it would bring about the destruction of their entire race if the Invid ever become hostile to them. In the name of securing Haydon IV's overall security and supremacy, the Awareness advocates the use of Shadow Technology-produced superweapons to utterly obliterate the Invid Cradleworld, seemingly destroying the entire Invid race and the Flowers of Life. Believing that Protoculture and the Invid will no longer be a threat to them, the Haydonites retreat to their homeworld into isolationism, with the Awareness declaring that they shall never intervene in the affairs of other races. Since that time, the Haydonites continued to live a peaceful existence that lasted for eons.

However, sometime during the mid-to-late 20th century, the Haydonites' isolation from the larger intergalactic community was disrupted when a Tirolian research vessel that was then commanded by the scientist and father of Robotechnology, Zor Derelda, came to their world to seed it with a mutated variant of the Invid Flower of Life. After learning information from Zor before his eventual departure, not only was the Haydonite Awareness shocked to learn that the Invid and their supply of Protoculture was able to survive their extinction attempt, but also another race, the Tirolians (commonly known as the "Robotech Masters" at the time) had manage to refine Protoculture to create advanced weapons in their ongoing war against the Invid, which had already destroyed in a countless amount of innocent races who were caught in the crossfire. With its paranoia towards the "dangers of Protoculture" vastly increasing because of all this, in order to prevent the possible destruction of Haydon IV in this new conflict, the Awareness begins to calculate a long-term plan that would see the destruction of Protoculture and all who used it in order to ensure everlasting peace in the universe....
