After it was revealed she was once in love with Fasir but she barely remembers, I got the distinct impression that Mirage actually WAS jasmine. The series ended too quickly, but Fasir's motives were really interesting in how he treated Aladdin's well being and how he regarded Mirage. And Mirage was obsessed with Aladdin in a weird way, even though she really had no connection to him when they first met.
Jasmine already had a lot of cat symbolism with Rajah, and the series also showed she had a high potential for evil without her memories. It got me thinking that Jasmine and Aladdin were stuck in a ancient time loop, and that Jasmine lost her memories and turned to dark magic and became Mirage, and Aladdin traded his eyes for powers of prophesy and became Fasir, in hopes he could use his powers to fix things in the present. He was truly hopeful and certain that Mirage and him would be together again one day. Not to mention Chaos wanted to give Mirage a little morality shake by putting her into a scenario where she does something good.
Its truly a shame we never got to see the real secret behind Mirage's backstory.

That's a really good question. Unlike most of the disney series sequels for movies, the team for Aladdin were really, really good. That's not an insult to the other series, but they were so good that, in fact, in the original draft for the third movie, Mozenrath was supposed to have been revealed as Aladdin's brother, along with another plotline related to the series that connected with Aladdin and Jasmine's marriage ...most likely Mirage's. Their marriage would of been the proverbial nail on the coffin to Mirage's practicalΒ
(another thing I noticed when I watched the last mirage episode again is when mirage was shaken into fear from chaos' whims and was being held by the dark genie, she acted on instinct...she was pushed into using wits and quick thinking into figuring out how to solve the problem, not her magic. That is incredibly suspicious, as Mirage was never really a quick thinker like Jasmine when Mirage was confident and evil. Chaos knew she wouldn't draw upon her magic when she was filled with fear, which is why I suspect he knew as much about Mirage's past as Fasir did)
The father plotline and 40 thieves plotline was...okay. But honestly, a guy with a claw was hardly very frightening compared to Jafar or the dozens of other more threatening villains in the series. And if they wanted to do a magic free end to the series, they shouldn't have defeated the main villain with, you guessed it, a magic hand.
I honestly think they should of let the series go out with a huge bang instead of just sweeping it under the rug for the movie plot. It was hardly the worst disney sequel, but it did seem a little weak.
