Description A really simple tut on how to get your traditional lineart using GIMP. I forget if Photoshop has an "add transparency/alpha channel" option. I made this in like, 10 minutes, so forgive me if there's too much space, or if the font's too small.

Note - as of August(?), FireAlpaca now also has a Line Extraction option~!

I was just thinking it'd be a good idea to tack that onto your deviation. owo

Why? This is a tutorial for GIMP, not FireAlpaca

The description, I meant, since you mentioned Photoshop in it.

*jaw drop* I have been trying to keep the fuzzy/blurry/beautiful to color edges for three hours now, including using the color selection tool to do it, and nothing! Why isn't this tutorial one of the first when I search 'extracting lineart tutorial' on this site or google! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS TUTORIAL!

Yeah. Photoshop's wand tool is tricky.
I think you have to uncheck "contiguous" and click on any area that is white, then delete it. I could be wrong. It's been a while.

Practical, simple and overall accessible. I like it!

I actually had developed one said filter that does this in one click. The bad thing about it is that it strictly runs onto the program I made it and it's for PhotoShop only, so I can't really distribute the thing

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that, because this isn't exactly a popular tutorial...

Ha! I wish I had that when I used Photoshop! XD I had to really figure out PS's Magic Wand tool to remove color from lineart. But it sucks that the filter, like you said, can't be distrubuted. D:

I hear ya. It's mostly due to the fact that many artists have different ways to pull it off. Most of them are jealous of exposing their ways as well XD;

I hear ya. The only way I can distribute this is with the limiting condition of having the other person obtain the same program that I use for the filter. Which, as you might expect, hampers severely my efforts of distribution
