I didn't fold it, but I did use some scrap pieces and added it to the bottom of the jaw to hide my chin a little bit.

I plan on making this for a con in a month, but i'm kinda new to a lot of this, I'm ordering the things i need to make this but I don't know how much wood filler to order, can someone please give me an estimate? also a suitable type of clay to use for the mouth? thanks in advance!

I haven't made it yet, but I think that one tube/can/whatever it is in of woodfiller must be enough. If you don't want to take the risk, get two of them. If you then don't end up using the second one you can return it.

Your best bet would probably be to use a couple of balloons to make the top and bottom pieces, paper mache those, pop the balloons, and then put your two halves together. It would actually be way lighter if you did it that way.

you can paper mache two balloons and use them as a base, kinda like the start of this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrW1nd…

I wonder If the same strategy could be used with one pumpkin bucket (and cut it a different way) to make a Gaster Blaster...

Hey! I saw that it said that I'll be cutting stuff out. And I know it seems silly, but I'm a bit confused on that part? Like do I just literally cut it out and cover that part with the paper mache?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AttackGoose In reply to MsPrussiaLover [2016-03-13 15:39:15 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, you just cut the pumpkin pails, tape them together, and then paper mache right on top of them. It's quite easy, actually.

Anything goes! Just as long as you get the general shape of the head right, everything can be built up from there. In fact, that method could make it quite a bit lighter, so I'd say go for it!

It looks like you cut out one of the bottoms of the pumpkins, did you? The bottom of the mouth.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AttackGoose In reply to Leoseugi [2016-02-21 15:56:53 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the bottom pumpkin is just the middle section of a pumpkin without any bottom. Part of the top of the pumpkin is gone as well. Most of the back of the head was cut away as well, so that second pail was pretty chopped up.

Pumpkins are hard to come by out of season and all... Any other suggestions? I was thinking of using some old worn out basketballs since I may have access to multiple different size one for free, but I know it would be a little harder to cut into.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AttackGoose In reply to Sylis-Wolf [2016-02-15 03:38:24 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, I don't know. Basketballs might be a little too flexible for this. I know some people used a mesh underlayer, while others used chicken wire or balloons to get the general shape, then paper mached the form and removed their base after the fact. If none of those work, there should be some places online that sell the pumpkin pails. I think Amazon does year-round, but they're add-on items.

Sylis-Wolf In reply to AttackGoose [2016-02-20 04:00:55 +0000 UTC]
For shape and everything, the basketballs are working pretty well. Like you said, the material might end up being too flexible for the wood filler but I won't find out until I try. The Leatherman tool I'm using is doing a good job of cutting through the basketball material, I may post some photos as things come together.
Thanks for the reply back!

I got mine off of Amazon, but there may be other websites that sell them too. Sadly they aren't in stores anymore since it isn't anywhere near Halloween anymore.

Hello!
I was wondering how many layers of paper mache you used? Don't want it too heavy since I'll be adding with the weight of the wood filler...
Thank you! And thanks for the wonderful tutorial!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AttackGoose In reply to ForeverNika [2016-02-15 03:41:45 +0000 UTC]
If I recall correctly, I used maybe two or three layers. I don't think it matters too much if you're using the pumpkins since those are really sturdy. If you used something else as a base and you only have the paper mache for the head form, I would add a few more layers.
And glad I could help.

ForeverNika In reply to AttackGoose [2016-02-17 21:15:54 +0000 UTC]
Thanks so much!
I used two layers and it was almost hard as stone so I stopped there.
I'm onto sanding the wood filler now and it feels like the ridges will never file down, oof...Considering buying an electric sander for the sake of my wrists haha.

Eg-Elska-Tig In reply to ??? [2016-02-03 04:32:11 +0000 UTC]
I did this the hard way! This is how I did it;
Blew up two balloons > paper mache layer with thick paper > paper mache layer with thin paper > pop the balloons > cut one in half and throw the bottom layer away > cut the other one in half, taking the top layer off > hot gluing both together in the middle > third paper mache layer, but with toilet paper > mark the eyes/mouth/nose > cut the eyes/nose > resin that baby up > resin again > sand paper > white acrylic > another coat of acrylic > black acrylic > resin again > resin.. again > sand paper leftover bumps > mesh for the eyes and nose > badly attach a blue laser light inside the eye > done!
Yeah, yours seems better. I'm making a second one my way since the first came out pretty shitty lol.. I will definitely remember this one though, and do it next time! I would now, except the supplies here wipe out my wallet!

This is going to be such a big help to me as Sans'... well, face, was proving to be a really difficult aspect of this cosplay. However, with this tutorial I feel as if I could totally attempt it as my first ever cosplay. The only problem I have now if finding trick or treat buckets out of season in Australia.

This is amazing! I'll probably try doing this later, but I do have questions: how long did this take you? Also, do the book lights make it harder to see out of?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AttackGoose In reply to vespxr [2016-02-01 15:20:26 +0000 UTC]
I honestly can't remember...a couple of weeks? I remember spending a semi-significant amount of time on it, but not like a hugely in-depth cosplay would take. And yes, the booklights made it harder to see. Also harder to breathe. Ultimately I decided to remove them entirely because they were impractical.

Hey Jin-sung! I'm definitely not Goose, but I could help you out a bit!
What can't you find in Korea? Everything but the pumpkin buckets? I could help you find alternatives if you want!
Here's what he/she/they used; buckets, tape, paper, school glue/flour, water, a marker, wood filler, scissors, paint, duct tape, fabric, sandpaper, and a laser light!
I'd like to think you have the buckets, tape, paper, school glue/flour, water, a marker, scissors, tape, fabric, and paint at least.. I know wood filler and sandpaper may be hard to come by!
If you can't find wood filler, I suggest www.alibaba.com/countrysearch/… , as they sell in South Korea! If you need sandpaper, you could use nail files or things like that as alternatives, or try www.alibaba.com/countrysearch/… !
If you need anything else, let me know! Good luck!
