Haha...okay. I finally got around to it. Keep in mind that sanding this thing is very messy. Here is the tutorial on tumblr (it's a little easier to read there): nedzuku.tumblr.com/post/134281…

While I wish I could make more of these, the mask was really messy and time-consuming to make. I also work too many hours to take commissions, so I won't make these masks for others. Sorry about that.

I love this tutorial! Thanks for sharing the process!
The only question I have is, doesn't wood filler crack a lot? The pictures don't really show any cracking, so I was wondering if it didn't or you just filled it in later? Or did you just add more layers of the wood filler to compensate?

AttackGoose In reply to Madamsharky [2016-01-17 13:38:08 +0000 UTC]
It does crack quite a bit, but then I just sanded it down a bit and filled those cracks with more wood filler . Eventually no more cracks show up and it can be sanded down without any problems.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think there are 10 inches in diameter. But medium-ish. So long as your head will fit in them, you're good to go.

Where did you get the blue LED book lights from?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AttackGoose In reply to LaceGyver [2016-01-17 13:40:19 +0000 UTC]
They were in the reading section of Walmart, so I'm not sure of the brand or anything. But it's just a wide lens booklight with blue fabric stretched over it to give it that color.

I'm going to be busy tagging this in a bunch of my new posts. My Sans mask came out WAAAAAAAY AWESOME thanks to your tutorial (the original confused me TBH).
Errrrrrrrr... I need help with the mesh for the eyes though... I dunno what you did for the ring you attached the mesh to.
Welp, I do wanna say, thanks for the tutorial!! I can't wait to wear this at a convention!

Looking good! As for the ring...strangely enough, I just used the wire from one of those mesh laundry baskets that I was no longer using and I bent that into a circle and duct taped it so it wouldn't snap open or something and stab me in the eye. That was it. :/

Does the mask lay directly on your head or is there something to hold it in place? I figure going with a larger head might be better to add more room for the face and airflow, but do you also think it would be a good idea to maybe add cushion to the top or side to add more comfort? Sorry if I ain't making sense with these questions. I'm not the best with things like this. :/

AttackGoose In reply to thespittz [2016-01-09 15:07:51 +0000 UTC]
Mine does lay right on top of my head because it's so small, but making it bigger might not be a bad idea. Some padding to keep in in place is also a good idea. Certainly a small bit of padding on top and a some on the sides to keep it from wobbling around would be advisable if you want it to be a larger head.

thespittz In reply to AttackGoose [2016-01-10 15:29:56 +0000 UTC]
With a larger head, do you think I would still need to try and find a fan or some other way to keep it cool with the mask on? Or would the openness of the mask not have a need for an artificial thing? I'm trying to see where I can get such a fan, but am having no luck so far.

AttackGoose In reply to thespittz [2016-01-17 13:45:05 +0000 UTC]
I would think you'll be fine without a fan. I took out the booklights on my mask and the airflow is already decent enough for me to not need a fan. If you really do need one, though, get a computer cooling fan to fit in your mask and attach it to some 9 volt batteries. Or you can look in a fursuit supply store online, since they normally sell cooling fans as well.

Just a small question, can you see out of the fabric?
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
AttackGoose In reply to Chiyako13 [2016-01-09 15:09:53 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I definitely can! It's a property where it looks dark when looking from areas of high light (outside), but when you're in the mask the light filters in and you can see.
Because of the LEDs shining a little bit on the fabric, I see better when it's really bright out. If it's dim the book lights reflect back too much and makes it more difficult to see, though.

Yes, just makebsurethat you stretch it over the eyes, and try not to do a thick coat of paint for the pupils

JemWolf In reply to Chiyako13 [2016-01-07 03:12:28 +0000 UTC]
Probably depends on the type of fabric as well. You'd definitely want some thinner stuff that still looks black

Here's the ones I got on amazon. They're just some generic 10 inch pumpkin pails. Keep in mind that these are an add-on item, though, so you'd have to make another purchase with these.

Oh jeez, I really can't remember and I didn't keep the packaging around. I just went to Walmart and got some booklights from the reading section. So maybe you'll find some suitable ones there or at Barnes and Noble or something? Sorry I'm not much help.

I'd imagine since it's plastic and all that it would get pretty stuffy to wear.

Very much so. I can't wear it for very long right now, but soon I'll get a cooling fan and install that to improve airflow.

I have two sets of lights. One is a pair of book lights for the pupils and the other is a larger book light I colored blue. I just turn one set off and turn the other one on.

Hope I'm not bugging you but, how wide is the mask? I found 10 inch buckets but no 8" and I didn't want to get the 10" if it ended up being too big. With the width I can at least get an idea of how big the buckets should be.
