Description Haha...okay. I finally got around to it. Keep in mind that sanding this thing is very messy.

Here is the tutorial on tumblr (it's a little easier to read there): nedzuku.tumblr.com/post/134281…

I'm not entirely sure, but 10 shouldn't be too big. I know that mine made for a very tight fit with how I made it, so a little bit of extra room wouldn't be a bad thing. I'll try and see if I can get a measurement later.

Thank you so much for the fantastic tutorial!! The wood filler is a fantastic idea, I definitely will be checking that out. Especially since I had to make the head from scratch with a wire frame. Living in a country that doesn't celebrate Halloween make the pumpkin pails impossible to find, even more so after Halloween.

I have a few questions though! Is the wood filler super hard after it dries? I've never worked with those before, but do you think it can handle a few days of frequent handling?

Also you deserve more fave and notes for this!!

Thanks, and no problem! The lack of Halloween does make things more difficult. Wood filler is pretty hard after it dries. After sanding mine and painting/sealing it, I can give it some pretty good hits (and I've done so) without it taking any damage. I haven't tried throwing it against a wall or anything, but for everyday use at a con, it'll hold up great. I can see my mask being in great condition for years to come.

Just applied the wood filler today, and man is it heavy. o.O Used nearly a whole pint of the stuff. I might need to sand it down and apply a little bit more to fill in some cracks. Did you use hands to apply your's? It looks so smooooooth!!

I think my mask is a bit bigger too, since I read some of your other comments and you used an 8 inch bucket. Mine is... quite large... since I used wire.

I used a putty knife to apply most of it, and toward the end I used my fingers just to fill some small cracks after sanding. And while my mask is by no means light, it isn't heavy...per say. At least I'm not super annoyed by it or anything.

Hmm maybe your's is smaller haha. I just tried putting the mask on, seems fine and sturdy. I haven't had time to sand it down yet as I'm still rushing fan merchandises to be printed.

I'm have a booth in an upcoming convention, (next weekend!!!) and I just thought being Sans behind a booth would be an awesome cosplay!! I wished I have time to do the whole sentry station frame to attach to my table!

What size were the buckets you used? Also I cant read the image, the resolution is all blurry for me.

Um...I really have no idea what size they were. I just bought some random ones off of Amazon. If I had to take a random guess, maybe 8 inches in diameter? And sorry about the image. I have no idea how to help with that. It's perfectly clear on my end. :/ Maybe try the tumblr link in the description? That's broken down into multiple images.

Do you think I could use clay as opposed to paper mache?

AttackGoose In reply to Tigoric16 [2015-12-07 17:21:24 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure. If it was an air dry clay or model magic, I don't see why not. Just so long as you don't need to throw it in an oven or kiln after you've put your clay on.

I tried the original method of using halloween buckets but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get them to the shape I wanted. So what I did instead is used a 3D model of his head and used a program called Pepakura to make it all out of cardstock and then I'll try picking up around your 4th or so step to smooth it all out. Either way thanks for the help!

AttackGoose In reply to ZepBladez [2015-12-07 17:21:53 +0000 UTC]

That is another option, since I've used pepakura before. Hope it works out for you!

What do you use to cut the holes for eyes, and nose? Because it doesn't look like regular scissors will cut through a Halloween bucket.

I actually did use scissors. They were heavy-duty office scissors, though, not the cheap kind. It was really difficult to do, and admittedly...it did hurt my hands quite a bit. But eh. Sacrifices in the name of cosplay.

Haha, no problem! A bunch of people begged for it so I figured I had might as well get around to completing it...

RoxasLoverForEver In reply to AttackGoose [2015-11-30 20:11:30 +0000 UTC]

But is so much steps... For real... It isn't really hard right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AttackGoose In reply to RoxasLoverForEver [2015-12-01 17:45:24 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say that the mask was hard. But it was time consuming and really messy. Sanding and waiting for each step to dry was the worst part.

Dx I will try to be determinate but I'm lazy as fuck.
