Description Back when I was redesigning my ES-4 locos “on paper,” I was actually simultaneously working on realizing them in 3D, too!  However, I had to abandon the project for a few months (I’ve been busy) and I just found some time to add the finishing detail touches and some basic color today.

Sketchup doesn’t offer the world’s best color pallet so the paint scheme is a tad too bright for my taste, but it should get the point across.  Unfortunately I was a bit too ambitious designing the wheels and gave them a conical profile early on, which made it pretty much impossible to add fancy 3D spokes (or boxpoks, in this case) later-- so the wheel openings are kind of textured on.  Atti and spokes... alas.  Just like my 2-4-2 project, details like rivets, seams, and small boiler fittings should ideally be textured on as well.

I also have some alternate versions which I’ll post soon. ^^

EDIT 12/8: I had forgotten to add the tender hatches to my model when I first made this chart-- they are now added!  I adjusted the height of some mis-measured  tender striping, too.

Also, alternate views of this engine can now be found here: atticus-w.deviantart.com/art/A… .

WAIT....
What if she had a Giesl Ejector?
(that's just how my mind works)

Seriously, this is a very well-done 3D model! I like your choice in color scheme for this locomotive, it with those drivers reminds me a little of those Bulleid locomotives over in England, and with a bit of Russia in it. We all love Russia.

Thanks so much. She's one of my favorite designs.  I hadn't thought of her as having Bullied wheels (her wheels are meant to be boxpoks) but there is a lot of Russia in her.

I'd bet she cost $400,000 dollars to build... in twelve seconds.

Okay I love how the top one you made the 3D make it look like one of your usual isometric drawings.  Again, excessively soviet.  Huge firebox= mega horsepower and horsepower is a big part of the speed equation.   NO DINNERPLATE WHEELS thank you sir.  Boxpok for the win, I want to see this thing with SCULLINS.  (Like dese.)  www.railarchive.net/rlsteam/ny…

Heh, thanks-- that's kind of the thing, actually-- I rather love how Sketchup can make better Atti-style drawings can Atti can. XD Interestingly I actually made a set of spoked drive wheels before I settled on boxpoks-- I thought that spoked drivers would match that one spoked trailing axle well, but I found that the boxpoks better conveyed the overall "modern" vibe that I wanted to portray.

As for Scullins, well-- as you know, ES-4s are prone to all kinds of unusual shoppings and experiments.

Yep, I snuck it up.

And thank you, sir!  As you can see my Soviet inspiration is now full-blown overt. XD

Russians knew how to paint stuff, man. In fact, the Eastern world out-paints the Western world almost any day of the week.
