Description
For what started out as a rather whimsical concept, this turned out fairly realistic, if I may say so myself. A Pacific with a rather French flair to it... inspired by a garden wheelbarrow.Drawn back in late July.
EDIT: 12/15: Today I learned a bit about vacuum brakesβ I'm rather surprised that no has pointed out my confusion of a vacuum brake exhaust pipe with the feedwater pipe in this picture!

The vacuum brake exhaust pipe is the long, straight pipe that travels down one side of the boiler and then bends into the side of the smokebox on most British engines... you can see it here on the Flying Scotsman: [link] . It's the pipe that travels forward from the cab and ends at that brass flange above the builder's plate.
A vacuum brake system is "charged" by blowing a jet of steam across an air nozel piped to the brake system, thus sucking air out of the brake pipe and creating the titular vacuum. That nozel fitting is in the cab, and the vacuum brake exhaust pipe sends the jet of steam forward to blow out of the smokestack.

Looks good!
Strangely, to myself, this is what would European-style Hyrulian trains should've looks like.
Whoops, new ideas pops up!
One idea says I would see this SAME old European 4-6-2, only except with a new look, Hyrulian-style, almost looks Zelda Deluge-yish, entitled "MUCH MOAR Spirit Tracks".
New idea, for the win!

A European locomotive with bar frames? What a rarity!

Hmm... ahaha, looks like you got me. XD Just goes to show that there are some things I'm so used to in the US that I don't even think about them when it comes to trying for a European design! (Another "mistake" of mine... I made the smokebox too small! I'm guessing the smokebox diameter would be larger than the boiler diameter on a real European engine.) Let's just say it's an American-built engine with a European-built tender (which looks more British than French, but at least it seems to have plate frames! XD)

Salt.
And I have to admit, you have a point! Funny, as I wasn't thinking of that engine in the slightest when I drew this. (Though I wouldn't have been able to draw one of those from memory anyway. XD)

They are, they are. I've always wanted to see the one in Belfast, Maine, but I haven't gotten the chance yet.

Not anymore, the one in belfast went up on the RR market for sale. In fact, that entire railroad is slated for sale!

[link] is where you can find the equipment. Seems the whole railroad is up for grabs. Allthough the imigas show some intersting Ero-american meging (US Switchers with buffers, knuckle cuplings, and the shuch) anyway, look around a bit

Crying shame... looks like it was a fascinating railroad.
Funny thing is, I actually visited the place once when I was a little kid. They weren't running at the time, but I got a wall pendant (like the ones for sports teams) for the railraod that I still have.

Actually, you'd be better off comming here and see one in original condition and in it's natural habitat. A 3-chime and bell just isn't right, I know it's because of US regulations but they should have a screamer whistle. [link]
π: 0 β©: 1
Atticus-W In reply to Jonatan [2008-09-12 20:47:52 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, those screech whistles are darn cool, but I think my chances of winding up in Europe anytime soon are remarkably less than my chances of winding up in Belfast. XD
And it's really because of regulations that they can't use the proper whistle? I mean, some folks might not like them, but to make them illegal... that's kinda silly. XD (Do you know if the folks who run the Swedish 2-8-0 on the HCW line have the same problem? That's another one on my "want to see" list...)

Railwolf In reply to Atticus-W [2008-10-02 02:05:11 +0000 UTC]
It becuse its near impossible to use screech whistles for anything but well....screeching! Whistle signels (outside of the commenly used Two for forward, three for reverse, and one for stop) are indistiguisable.

I believe it's US regulations, line locomotives don't have high-pitch whistles. The 2-8-0 is an E2 class, based on the E class 0-8-0 freight engine who some were given a pilot truck.
Some people claim the engine is built in canada but that is false, she was most probably sold when the steam reserve in Sweden was dismantled.

Atticus-W In reply to Jonatan [2008-09-13 01:54:20 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it would be encredibly silly to claim that that engine was built in Canada. Based on an 0-8-0, eh? I kinda think it would look even neater in that configuration! (And that's saying something, it being an awful neat engine already.
)

Oh God... Them Darn Wheelbarrows! If they Look like 4-6-2s, then Lawnmowers must be some kind of Baldwin, Lima or Alco Switcher; They make Awful noises, but work pretty well!
This sure is a Cool Steamer though, Chapelon would be proud of it's American/French Ingenuity of Design...

Oh yes, lawnmowers most definitly turn into locomotives... they make fine diesels! And thanks!! Mr. Chapelon might have tried to pack a few more cylinders in there, but hey.

lol!!! Yah, when i was younger me and a ferand used to hook wagens together and run them up and down the woods, digging up clay, filling them, and running back. We would pretend we were histlers and/or Shays and we were making mining runs on the "K&S Railroad"
K&S became KR&SR...the initals of both our names...KR&SR was the forunner of the WOLF. The green collors on WRR's locomotives are reminders of the green wagons!
